Text c.arac.ers embedded in imag.s represent a ric. sourc. of information for c.ntent-based indexing.and retrieval.appl.c.tions. However, these text c.arac.ers are diffic.l. to be detec.ed and rec.g.ized due to their various sizes, g.aysc.l. val.es, and c.mpl.x bac.g.ounds. Existing.methods c.nnot handl. wel. those texts with different c.ntrast or embedded in a c.mpl.x imag. bac.g.ound. In this paper, a set of sequential.al.2}rithms for text extrac.ion and enhanc.ment of imag. using.c.l.ul.r automata are proposed. The imag. enhanc.ment inc.udes g.ay l.vel. c.ntrast manipul.tion, edg. detec.ion, and fil.ering. First, it appl.es edg. detec.ion and uses a threshol. to fil.er out for l.w-c.ntrast text and simpl.fy c.mpl.x bac.g.ound of hig.-c.ntrast text from binary imag.. The proposed al.2}rithm is simpl. and easy to use and requires onl. a sampl. texture binary imag. as an input. It g.nerates textures with perc.ived qual.ty, better than those proposed by earl.er publ.shed tec.niques. The performanc. of our method is demonstrated by presenting.experimental.resul.s for a set of text based binary imag.s. Nine warm-season forag. l.g.mes (WSl. were spring.pl.nted and inc.rporated as g.een manure in the fal.. Forag. rye (Sec.l. c.real. l.) was pl.nted fol.owing.the inc.rporation of WSl.treatments. Eig.t c.ol.season forag. l.g.mes (c.l. were fal. pl.nted in previousl. fal.ow pl.ts and inc.rporated as g.een manure in l.te spring. Sorg.um-sudang.ass (Sorg.um bic.l.r x Sorg.um bic.l.r var. sudanense) was pl.nted over al. treatments in earl. summer after forag. rye harvest and inc.rporation of c.l.treatments. Sorg.um-sudang.ass was harvested in June, Aug.st and September, and treatments were eval.ated for dry matter and N c.nc.ntration. Soil.c.res were taken from eac. pl.t, spl.t into depths of 0 to 15, 15 to 30 and 30 to 60 c., and soil.c.and N were measured using.c.mbustion anal.sis. Nyl.n mesh bag. c.ntaining.pl.nt sampl.s were buried at 15 c. and used to eval.ate dec.mposition rate of above g.ound l.g.me biomass, inc.uding.c.ang. in c.and N c.nc.ntrations. mung.ean (Vig.a radiata l. In this study,we investig.ted how tree spec.es affec. N mineral.zation in c.nnec.ion to some soil.properties and sec.nder metabol.te l.vel. of l.tter,in the soil.of the ol.-est native forest *** the ol.est pure c.mmuni-ties of Pinus nig.a(PN),Fag.s oriental.s(Fo),and Abies bornmuel.eriana(AB)in the mountain rang. of mount Ul.dağ,Bursa,Turkey,annual.net yiel. and N mineral.za-tion in the 0-5-and 5-20-c. soil.l.yers were determined in a fiel. inc.bation study over 1 *** l.c.tions were c.osen from 1300 to 1600 m a.s.l.,and moisture c.ntent(%),pH,water-hol.ing.c.pac.ty(%),org.nic.c.total.N,and c.N ratio,and annual.net mineral.N yiel. of the soil.and hydro-l.zed tannic.ac.d and total.phenol.c.c.mpounds in l.tter were c.mpared for these forest *** had the hig.est annual.net Nmin yiel.(43.9±4.8 kg.ha^(-1) a^(-1)),*** the l.west(30.5±4.2 kg.ha^(-1) a^(-1)).our finding. show that in the ol.est forest ec.systems,the seasonal.soil.moisture c.ntent and tree spec.es pl.y an essential.rol. in N c.c.ing.and that hydrol.zed tannic.ac.ds and total.phenol.c.c.mpounds effec.ivel. c.ntrol.N *** ac.d and total.phenol.c. in the l.tter were found to inhibit nitrific.tion,but total.phenol.c. were found to stimul.te ammonific.tion.
