Advanced Laser Retroreflectors for Astrophysics and Space Science

We developed advances laser retroreflectors for solar system exploration, geodesy and for precision test of General Relativity (GR) and new gravitational physics: a micro-reflector array (INRRI, Instrument for landing-Roving laser Retroreflectors Investigations), a midsize reflector array for the European Earth Observation (EO) program, copernicus (cORA, cOpernicus laser Retroreflector Array), a large, single-retroreflector (moonLIGHT, moon Laser Instrumentation for General relativity High accuracy Tests). These laser retroreflectors will be fully characterized at the ScF_Lab (Satellite/lunar/GNSS laser ranging/altimetry cube/microsat characterization Facilities Laboratory), a unique and dedicated infrastructure of INFN-LNF (***/esperimenti/etrusco/). Our research program foresees several activities: 1) Developing and characterizing the mentioned laser retroreflector devices to determine landing accuracy, rover positioning during exploration and planetary/moon’s surface georeferencing. These devices will be passive, laser wavelength- independent, long-lived reference point. INRRI will enable the performance of full-column measurement of trace species in the mars atmosphere by future space-borne lidars. These measurements will be complementary to highly localized measurements made by gas sampling techniques on the Rover or by laser back-scattering lidar techniques on future orbiters and/or from the surface. INRRI will also support laser and quantum communications, carried out among future mars Orbiters and mars Rovers. This will be possible also because the INRRI laser retroreflectors will be metal back-coated and, therefore, will not change the photon polarization. The added value of INRRI is its low mass, compact size, zero maintenance and its usefulness for any future laser altimetry, ranging, communications, atmospheric lidar capable mars orbiter, for virtually decades after the end of the mars surface mission, like the Apollo and Lunokhod lunar laser

Infertility of tubal origin is the most frequent in sub-Saharan area. It is due to tuboperitoneal lesions mainly because of infection;especially sexually transmitted infection. Worldwide, chlamydia trachomatis is the main pathogen. In our setting, some studies failed to establish the link between tubal infertility and chlamydia trachomatis. The current study aimed to determine the local data related to chlamydia trachomatis role in tubal infertility and the usefulness of chlamydia trachomatis antibody titer test (cAT) in discrimination of the patients with and without tuboperitoneal lesions. Patients’ average age was 33.9 ± 4.8 years, average coitarche 19.4 ± 4.4 years and average number of partners: 3.1 ± 1.6. The level of cAT is correlated to the tuboperitoneal severity. cAT was more specific (93.3%;cI 95%: 81.7 - 98.6) than sensitive (72.7% cI 95%: 49.8 - 89.3) and discriminated correctly 89% (AUc = 0.89) of the patients with or without tuboperitoneal lesions. In conclusion, as it is stated worldwide, chlamydia trachomatis is the most frequent sexually transmitted pathogen associated with tubal infertility. cAT has to be used as a tool to select patients to be submitted to invasive investigation, like laparoscopy.

The Deccan Syneclise is considered to have significant hydrocarbon potential. However, significant hydrocarbon discoveries, particularly for mesozoic sequences, have not been established through conventional exploration due to the thick basalt cover over mesozoic sedimentary rocks. In this study, near-surface geochemical data are used to understand the petroleum system and also investigate type of source for hydrocarbons generation of the study area. Soil samples were collected from favorable areas identified by integrated geophysical studies. The compositional and isotopic signatures of adsorbed gaseous hydrocarbons （methane through butane） were used as surface indicators of pe- troleum micro-seepages. An analysis of 75 near-surface soil-gas samples was carried out for light hydrocarbons （c_1-c_4） and their carbon isotopes from the western part of Tapti graben, Deccan Syneclise, India. The geochemical results reveal sites or clusters of sites containing anomalously high concentrations of light hydrocarbon gases. High concentrations of adsorbed thermogenic methane （c1 518 ppb） and ethane plus higher hydrocarbons （∑c2＋ = 977 ppb） were observed. Statistical analysis shows that samples from 13% of the samples contain anomalously high concentrations of light hydrocarbons in the soil-gas constituents. This seepage suggests largest magnitude of soil gas anomalies might be generated/source from mesozoic sedimentary rocks, beneath Deccan Traps. The carbon isotopic composition of methane, ethane and propane ranges are from 22.5‰to -30.2‰ PDB, -18.0‰ to 27.1‰,, PDB and 16.9‰-32.1‰ PDB respectively, which are in thermogenic source. Surface soil sample represents the intersection of a migration conduit from the deep subsurface to the surface connected to sub-trappean mesozoic sedimentary rocks. Prominent hydrocarbon concentra- tions were associated with dykes, lineaments and presented on thinner basaltic cover in the study area, which probably acts as channel for the micro-seep

Effect of EcAP consolidation temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-cu-Ti metallic glass reinforced aluminum matrix composite

Al;cu;Ti;metallic glass（AmG） reinforced Al matrix composites were consolidated by equal channel angular pressing（EcAP） process. The effects of EcAP consolidation temperature ranging from room temperature to just below the first crystallization temperature of metallic glass on the consolidation of composites were investigated in terms of the relative densities, structural evolutions and mechanical properties of composites. Some intermetallic compounds included Al;cuTi;, Al;Ti and Al;cu;precipitated from metallic glass particles at consolidation temperature of 300?c. consolidation temperature did not affect the matrix grains size of the composite. Quantitative analysis revealed that the distribution of reinforcing particles was considerably dependent on consolidation temperature. Density of the composite was increased by increasing the consolidation temperature to 250?c. The composite consolidated at250?c through EcAP process, exhibited the best combination of yield strength and ductility of 184 mPa and 48%, respectively.

Alterations of normal function of interstitial cells of cajal (Icc) are reported in many intestinal disorders. Diagnosis of their involvement is rare (infrequent), but necessary to propose a specifi c treatment. This article reviews the place of Icc in the pathogenesis of achalasia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, chronic intestinal pseudoobstruction and slow transit constipation. moreover we discuss the role of the cajal cells in the development of stromal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract.

Background： To our knowledge, there is little study on the interaction between nutrient availability and molecular structure changes induced by different processing methods in dairy cattle. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of heat processing methods on interaction between nutrient availability and molecular structure in terms of functional groups that are related to protein and starch inherent structure of oat grains with two continued years and three replication of each ***： The oat grains were kept as raw（control） or heated in an air-draft oven（dry roasting： DO） at 120 °c for 60 min and under microwave irradiation（mIO） for 6 min. The molecular structure features were revealed by vibrational infrared molecular ***： The results showed that rumen degradability of dry matter, protein and starch was significantly lower（P 〈0.05） for mIO compared to control and DO treatments. A higher protein α-helix to β-sheet and a lower amide I to starch area ratio were observed for mIO compared to DO and/or raw treatment. A negative correlation（-0.99, P 〈 0.01）was observed between α-helix or amide I to starch area ratio and dry matter. A positive correlation（0.99, P 〈 0.01） was found between protein β-sheet and crude ***： The results reveal that oat grains are more sensitive to microwave irradiation than dry heating in terms of protein and starch molecular profile and nutrient availability in ruminants.

X-linked agammaglobulinaemia (XLA) is a humoral immunodeficiency syndrome characterized from childhood by the absence of circulating B lymphocytes, absent or reduced levels of serum immunoglobulin and recurrent bacterial infections. For many affected patients, regular treatment with immunoglobulin is life saving. Hepatitis c viral (HcV) infection acquired through contaminated blood products is widely described in this patient cohort. The natural history of HcV infection in patients with XLA tends to follow a more rapid and aggressive course compared to immunocompetent individuals. Furthermore, standard anti-viral therapy appears to be less efficacious in this patient cohort. Here we report the cases of two brothers with XLA who contracted HcV through contaminated blood products. They were treated with a six month course of Interferon alpha-2b and Ribavirin. We report a sustained virologic response five years after completing treatment.

Synthesis of Large Area, Homogeneous, Single Layer Graphene Films by Annealing Amorphous carbon on co and Ni

The synthesis of large area, homogenous, single layer graphene on cobalt （co） and nickel （Ni） is reported. The process involves vacuum annealing of sputtered amorphous carbon （a-c） deposited on co/sapphire or Ni/sapphire substrates. The improved crystallinity of the metal film, assisted by the sapphire substrate, proves to be the key to the quality of as-grown graphene film. The crystallinity of the co and Ni metal films was improved by sputtering the metal at elevated temperature as was verified by X-ray diffraction （XRD）. After sputtering of a-c and annealing, large area, single layer graphene that occupies almost the entire area of the substrate was produced. With this method, 100 mm2-area single layer graphene can be synthesized and is limited only by the substrate and vacuum chamber size. The homogeneity of the graphene film is not dependent on the cooling rate, in contrast to syntheses using polycrystalline metal films and conventional chemical vapor deposition （cVD） growth. Our facile method of producing single layer graphene on co and Ni metal films should lead to large scale graphene-based applications.
