Gastric intestinal metaplasia is associated with gastric dysplasia but is inversely correlated with esophageal dysplasia

AImTo determine which clinical factors might be associated with gastric intestinal metaplasia (Im) in a North American population. mETHODSPathology and endoscopy databases at an academic medical center were reviewed to identify patients with and without gastric Im on biopsies for a retrospective cohort study. Patient demographics, insurance status, and other clinical factors were reviewed. RESULTSFour hundred and sixty-eight patients with gastric Im (mean age: 61.0 years ± 14.4 years, 55.5% female) and 171 without gastric Im (mean age: 48.8 years ± 20.8 years, 55.0% female) were compared. The endoscopic appearance of atrophic gastritis correlated with finding gastric Im on histopathology (OR = 2.05, P = 0.051). Gastric Im was associated with histologic findings of chronic gastritis (OR = 2.56, P P = 0.015), gastric dysplasia (OR = 6.11, P = 0.038), and gastric cancer (OR = 6.53, P = 0.027). Histologic findings of Barrett’s esophagus (OR = 0.28, P = 0.003) and esophageal dysplasia (OR = 0.11, P = 0.014) were inversely associated with gastric Im. Tobacco use (OR = 1.73, P = 0.005) was associated with gastric Im. CONCLUSIONPatients who smoke or have the endoscopic finding of atrophic gastritis are more likely to have gastric Im and should have screening gastric biopsies during esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). Patients with gastric Im are at increased risk for having gastric dysplasia and cancer, and surveillance EGD with gastric biopsies in these patients might be reasonable.

It is theoretically investigated the generation of higher harmonics of two-dimensional and three-dimensional terahertz electromagnetic beams in nonlinear crystals. The attention is paid to crystalline paraelectrics like SrTiO3 under the temperatures 60 - 200 K, these crystals possess the cubic nonlinearity. The bias electric field is applied to provide the dominating quadratic nonlinearity. The initial focusing of the beams not only increases the efficiency of generation of higher harmonics, but alto makes possible to select maxima of different higher harmonics at some distances from the input. At lower temperatures the nonlinearity behaves at smaller input amplitudes, whereas at higher temperatures the harmonic generation can be observed at higher frequencies up to 1.5 THz. In three-dimensional beams the peak amplitudes of higher harmonics can be bigger than in two-dimensional beams, but the ratios of these peak values to the maximum values of the focused first harmonic are smaller than in two-dimensional beams.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

This work presents the design and the construction of a solar hybrid vehicle whose principal driving force is a photovoltaic system, assisted by human propulsion. The solar race of Atacama Desert （Chile） was the In＇st challenge that the solar vehicle faced, with a maximum catchment area of 4 m^2 storage 1,500 Wh and a maximum cost of 7,000 USD. Built vehicle was tested, reaching speeds on fiat terrain of 40 km/h with engine and 50 km/h with human-powered contribution. Proposed design could be projected as a vehicle for transporting person average Latin American roads.

Elimination of ESD Events and Optimizing Waterjet Deflash Process for Reduction of Leakage Current Failures on QFN-mr Leadframe Devices

This technical paper presents the resolution of high leakage current failures on QFN-mr （Quad-Flat No-leads multi-Row） LF （leadframe） devices by optimizing the waterjet deflash process and eliminating the ESD （electrostatic discharge） events. ESD damage to units can cause permanent or latent product failures which results in low final test yield, and worse, possible external customer complaints. The use of CO2 （carbon dioxide） bubbler was able to reduce the DI （deionized） water’s equivalent resistivity from 17 m？ to 0.30 m？, minimizing the tribocharging effect produced during the waterjet deflash process. moreover, ESD events were eliminated by grounding the floating assembly equipment parts and installing appropriate ESD controls. It is of high importance to reduce or eliminate the leakage current failures to ensure the product quality, especially as the market becomes more demanding. After the optimization and implementation of the corrective and improvement actions, high leakage current occurrence was significantly reduced from baseline of 5,784 ppm to 20 ppm.

Objective: In cesarean section (CS), which, early vs. delayed cord clamping is better for neonatal and maternal hematocrit/hemoglobin level is not yet completely determined. This randomized controlled study attempted to determine this issue. Methods: Study population consisted of 64 full-term pregnant women/neonates undergoing planned CS: 32 received early cord clamping (ECC: 15 seconds after birth) and 32 delayed cord clamping (DCC: 90 seconds). We measured and analyzed 1) neonatal hematocrit at the first 24 - 48 hours, and 2) maternal-hemoglobin-change before and after CS.

An evaluation of the incidence of Crypticerya multicicatrices and maconellicoccus hirsutus in Colombian Seaflower Biosphere Reserve in San Andrés, Providence and Santa Catalina islands, from mid-August to mid-November 2012 was made. 38 locations were sampled, and 34% of sites tested show an incidence of C. multicicatrices oscillating between a range of 80%-100%, 24% with 40%-80% of incidence, 18% between 10%-40% and 24% with a range of 0%-10%. The occurrence of m. hirsutus fluctuated between 0.5% and 17%. There were seven genera of ants associated C. multicicatrices and 94 hosts of this agriculturally important insect and we found high incidence of associated sooty mold in C. multicicatrices hosts. Observations also contained some developmental stages of C. multicatrices.

Objective: To compare the in vitro antiparasitic activity of aqueous extracts from Ziziphus joazeiro leaves and stem bark against Trypanosoma cruzi, Leishmania braziliensis, and Leishmania infantum, as well as to evaluate its cytotoxicity in mammalian cells, in addition to identifying the chemical composition of the extracts. methods: Ziziphus joazeiro leaf and stem bark aqueous extracts were prepared by cold extraction maceration and subjected to ultra-efficient liquid chromatography coupled to a quadrupole/time of flight system. The susceptibility assays used Trypanosoma cruzi CLB5 strains and promastigote forms of Leishmania braziliensis and Leishmania infantum for antiparasitic activity of the extracts. moreover, mammalian fibroblasts NCTC clone 929 were used for cytotoxicity analysis. Results: Terpenoid compounds, flavonoids and phenolic acid were identified in extracts. The stem bark aqueous extracts presented more significant results in terms of antiparasitic activity compared with the leaf aqueous extracts, especially against Leishmania braziliensis and Leishmania infantum promastigote forms with an IC50 mL. The cytotoxicity evaluation showed moderate toxicity of the stem bark aqueous extracts, which is relevant information for the rational use of this plant part since it is widely used by the population. Conclusions: These preliminary results may contribute to the formulation of new therapeutic agents against this group of neglected diseases, so further investigations are required to delineate the mechanisms of action mainly of the aqueous extract of stem bark of Ziziphus joazeiro.

Preliminary Design Study on Concentrated Solar Power PVRs to Operate with RCBC

Parabolic through concentrators and parabolic dish concentrators followed by a PVR （pressurized volumetric receiver） are proposed, studying the performance behavior of a RCBC （regenerative closed Brayton cycle） operating with helium or hydrogen. A pressurized gas such as helium circulates along the volumetric receiver, capturing the concentrated thermal solar energy to be further converted into electric power via a thermal cycle. The overall efficiency of the plant has been computed under variable parameters to determine the operating conditions for which efficiency and specific power are acceptable. As consequence of the proposed analysis, it is concluded that direct coupling between volumetric receivers and thermal engines renders high efficiency while avoiding an intermediate heat transfer medium.
