microstructural Evolution of Solid-solution-treated Zn-22Al in the Semisolid State

The effect of solid-solution-treatment on the semisolid microstructure of Zn-22Al with developed dendrites was investigated. Forming Zn-22Al products by semisolid metal processing offers significant advantages, such as reductions in macro-segregation, porosity and forming costs. Thermal and rnicrostructural analyses of the formed Zn-22Al alloy were performed by differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy. The changes in the microstructures and phase transformation in response to various solid- solution-treatments were analysed. In this study, as-cast samples were held isothermally at 330 ℃ for 0.5- 5 h and then partially remelted at a semisolid temperature of 438 ℃ for 1 h to produce a solid-globular grain structure in a liquid matrix. A non-dendritic semisolid microstructure could not be obtained when the traditionally cast Zn 22Al alloy with developed dendrites was subjected directly to partial remelting. After solid-solution-treatment at 330 ℃, the black interdendritic eutectics were dissolved, and the dendritic structures gradually transformed into uniform β structures when the treatment time was increased. The coarsened and merged dendrites were separated as a result of penetration by the liquid phase and melting of the residual eutectic at sites along the former grain boundaries. The microstructure of the solid-solution- treated sample transformed into a small globular structure; the best shape factor of 0.9, corresponding to a particle size of 40 ± 16 μm, is achieved when the sample was treated for 3 h followed by direct partial remelting into its semisolid zone.

Biofortification of staple crops through genetic modification is a sustainable way to overcome nutrient deficiencies worldwide,especially in low-income developing *** is one of the most important minerals required for the human body and participates in crucial physiological processes including oxygen transport,electron transport for energy production,and so *** there are some reports of genetically engineered crops with increased iron content,such as rice,wheat,and cassava,iron biofortification of maize has been challenging due to the trade-off between kernel iron concentration and maize yield(Long et al.,2004).In a recent article published in Science,researchers used molecular-marker-assisted selection to eliminate this trade-off and developed maize varieties with increased iron concentration in kernels without compromising yield(Yan et al.,2023).

Highly selective adsorption of rhenium by amyloid-like protein material

Rhenium separation from molybdenum in molybdenite minerals and waste leachate has become an emerging *** this challenge,we prepared a set of protein-based alkylamine/alkylammonium salts complexes as extractants for selective uptake of rhenium from molybdenum,where the protein component turned into the insoluble amyloid-like structure when its internal disulfide bonds were reduced,namely phase-transition *** them,the phase-transited lysozyme and methyletrioctyleammonium chloride complex(PTL-N263)exhibited the most efficient adsorption at the alkaline condition for the electrostatic interaction between negatively charged metal ions with positively charged center(R_(4)N^(+))in N263,where negatively charged protein residues hindered the ion exchange of Cl^(-)in N263 for larger size mo species(mo_(7)O_(24)^(6-))than smaller size Re species(ReO^(4-)).The adsorption follows the Freundlich model and pseudo-second-order kinetics,which exhibits toplevel adsorption performance with a maximum adsorption capacity of 124 mg/g and a separation factor(β_(Re/mo))of 2.78×10^(3)for *** adsorption capacity per unit area(57.2 mg/(g m^(2)))is 1.6–41 times higher than previously reported adsorbents,and the cost for adsorbing 1 g of Re(VII)is$1.07,indicating its industrial *** adsorption strategy can be applied to separating Re from mo in binary solutions and industrial wastewater with other competing ions.

Effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on carbon assimilation and ecological stoichiometry of maize under combined abiotic stresses

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AmF) enhance plant tolerance to abiotic stresses like salinity and improve crop yield. However, their effects are variable, and the underlying cause of such variation remains largely unknown. This study aimed to assess how drought modified the effect of AmF on plant resistance to high calcium-saline stress. A pot experiment was performed to examine how AmF inoculation affects the growth, photosynthetic activity, nutrient uptake and carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) stoichiometric ratio (C:N:P) of maize under high calcium stress and contrasting water conditions. The results showed that high calcium stress significantly reduced mycorrhizal colonization, biomass accumulation, C assimilation rate and C:N stoichiometric ratio in plant tissues. Besides, the adverse effects of calcium stress on photosynthesis were exacerbated under drought. AmF inoculation profoundly alleviated such reductions under drought and saline stress. However, it barely affected maize performance when subjected to calcium stress under well-watered conditions. moreover, watering changed AmF impact on nutrient allocation in plant tissues. Under well-watered conditions, AmF stimulated P accumulation in roots and plant growth, but did not induce leaf P accumulation proportional to C and N, resulting in increased leaf C:P and N:P ratios under high calcium stress. In contrast, AmF decreased N content and the N:P ratio in leaves under drought. Overall, AmF inoculation improved maize resistance to calcium-salt stress through enhanced photosynthesis and modulation of nutrient stoichiometry, particularly under water deficit conditions. These results highlighted the regulatory role of AmF in carbon assimilation and nutrient homeostasis under compound stresses, and provide significant guidance on the improvement of crop yield in saline and arid regions.

Predicting depression intensity from microblogs and social media posts has numerous benefits and applications,including predicting early psychological disorders and stress in individuals or the general public.A major challenge in predicting depression using social media posts is that the existing studies do not focus on predicting the intensity of depression in social media texts but rather only perform the binary classification of depression and moreover noisy data makes it difficult to predict the true depression in the social media *** study intends to begin by collecting relevant Tweets and generating a corpus of 210000 public tweets using Twitter public application programming interfaces(APIs).A strategy is devised to filter out only depression-related tweets by creating a list of relevant hashtags to reduce noise in the ***,an algorithm is developed to annotate the data into three depression classes:‘mild,’‘moderate,’and‘Severe,’based on International Classification of Diseases-10(ICD-10)depression diagnostic *** baseline classifiers are applied to the annotated dataset to get a preliminary idea of classification performance on the *** FastText-based model is applied and fine-tuned with different preprocessing techniques and hyperparameter tuning to produce the tuned model,which significantly increases the depression classification performance to an 84%F1 score and 90%accuracy compared to ***,a FastText-based weighted soft voting ensemble(WSVE)is proposed to boost the model’s performance by combining several other classifiers and assigning weights to individual models according to their individual *** proposed WSVE outperformed all baselines as well as FastText alone,with an F1 of 89%,5%higher than FastText alone,and an accuracy of 93%,3%higher than FastText *** proposed model better captures the contextual features of the relatively small sample class and aids in the detection of

A Significant Nuclear Security Event in Gaziemir-Izmir,Türkiye:Open Letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency

In 2006,a large quantity of clandestine sensitive radioactive materials surfaced at an abandoned scrap metal and lead recovery facility in the city Gaziemir,Izmir,Tü*** April,2007 the TAEK(Turkish Atomic Energy Agency)official experts surveyed the 70,000 m^(2)site including the storage *** reported that 20-300 microRad/h of radiation was detected throughout the site,especially high readings of more than 300 micRad/h were recorded inside the storage building containing about 1,100 tons of commercially valuable *** 15 tons of waste were taken from the storage building and sent to TAEK’s lab in Ankara to be *** April,2008 TAEK issued a press release(No:04/2012)on its official website confirming that their analysis of samples taken from the Aslan facility showed that,there is a scattered radioactive contamination in the Aslan lead-recovering *** radioactive isotopes of Europium-152 and Europium-154 were found in the landfilled area,additionally,these isotopes were more concentrated(higher readings)in the commercially valuable waste(approx.1,100 tons)which was kept in the storage building,a clear indication of the fact that at the Aslan facility,sensitive nuclear reactor parts,including but not limited to nuclear reactors control rods were being melted.

The increased valorization of renewable and cost-effective lignocellulosic feedstocks represents a viable,sustainable,and eco-friendly approach toward the production of biopellets as alternative energy *** aim of this research work was to investigate and evaluate the feasibility of using various lignocellulosic raw materials,i.e.,raru(Cotylelobium melanoxylon),mangrove(Rhizophora spp.),sengon(Paraserianthes falcataria),kemenyan toba(Styrax sumatrana),oil palm(Elaeis guineensis),manau rattan(Calamus manan),and belangke bamboo(Gigantochloa pruriens)for manufacturing biopellets with different particle *** raw materials used were tested for their moisture content,specific gravity,ash,cellulose,and lignin *** addition,thermal analyses,i.e.,calorific values,thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),were *** following properties of the biopellets produced were investigated:moisture content,volatile matter,ash content,fixed carbon,density,and thermal *** on an analysis of the raw materials,raru had the lowest moisture content(12%)and ash content(1.5%)and the highest specific gravity(1.2).markedly,palm oil stem had the highestα-cellulose(55%)and lignin(37%)*** accordance with the SNI 8675:2018 standard requirements,biopellets with optimal properties(moisture content of 1.4%,ash content of 0.79%,density of 1.09 g/m^(3),calorific value of 4672 cal/g,and TGA residue of 13.9%),were manufactured from raru wood.
