Soil is the foundation for sustainable foodproduction and environmental protection. Created byunsustainable land management practices and a range ofsocial, economic and environmental drivers, soil degrada-tion and pollution have been an ongoing threat tointernational food security and environmental *** degradation and pollution assessments are, however,often focused on the soil itself with little scope to devisenew soil management approaches that match foodproduction systems and/or *** study draws lessons from an Australia-China JointResearch Center Program, Healthy Soils for SustainableFood Production and Environmental Quality: a researchplatform that has brought together multi-disciplinaryapproaches fromworld-renowned universitiesandresearch organizations in Australia and China. To thisend, a framework is presented for future soil managementin a new way that combines excellence in research,industry and policymakers in a partnership that will ensurenot only the right focus of the research but also that high-quality outputs will be transferable to industry and end-users.

＜正＞ In this study, the nano-sized layered plates and the hexagonal arrays of one-dimensional channels will be presented for the development of catalyst layers and polyelectrolyte membranes in direct methanol fuel cell （DmFC） applications. The positively-charged layered double hydroxides （LDH） systems were incorporated into the negatively-charged polyelectrolyte polymer in order to change the proton conductivity and diffusion coefficient of DmFC membrane. For different ion exchange capacities and its compositions of LDH, the maximum power density of a single-cell DmFC was measured and correlated with the transport properties of the proton and the methanol through the LDH/Nafion composite membrane systems. In addition, a mesoporous carbon structure based on SBA-15 silica template was used as a cathode catalyst support of platinum in the direct methanol fuel cell. The inverse carbon replica of the template was synthesized by carbonization of sucrose exhibiting a large surface area. Introducing platinum clusters on the carbon support, a large surface area was maintained and the catalytic activation was confirmed by a DmFC single-cell test The mesoporous carbon structure could be an ideal catalyst support for electrode support materials in DmFC providing favorable hosting morphology for the metallic catalyst clusters and interconnected pore network for a facile transport of feeds and products.

PURPOSE: To survey comprehensive ophthalmology patients about their use of vit amins and herbal supplements. DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey. mETHODS: A survey instrument was developed and distributed to 397 patients presenting to a main c ampus university-based comprehensive ophthalmology clinic and to an off-site c omprehensive ophthalmology clinic. Information gathered included demographics, u se of prescription medications, use of vitamin and herbal supplements, the reaso ns for using these supplements, perceived benefits of these products, where the information regarding them was gathered, and with whom patients had discussed th eir use. RESULTS:Fiftyeight percent of patients reported nearly daily use of vit amins. multivitamins were the most common vitamin and were used by 46%of the pa tients. Eight percent of patients used herbal products on a daily basis. Twenty -six percent learned about vitamins from their primary care physician (PCP), an d just 2%from their ophthalmologists, while 35%discussed their actual use with a PCP, and 5%with their ophthalmologists. Just 2%of these patients learned of herbs from a PCP, and m an ophthalmologist. Older patients used multivit amins and other vitamins most frequently, while gender and education were not pr edictive of vitamin or herbal use. mean monthly spending on vitamins by users wa s ＄15.74, while herbal users spent a monthly mean of ＄15.35. CONCLUSIONS: Vita mins and herbs are used by a significant number of patients in a comprehensive o phthalmology setting. Given the prevalence of vitamin and herbal use, ophthalmol ogists should systematically inquire about their use.

目的:回顾经颅多普勒(TCD)和经颅彩色编码超声(TCCS)在诊断方面的应用。方法:作者检索了以下文献证据:(1)在特殊临床情况下TCD能否提供有用的信息;(2)应用这一信息能否改进临床决策,后者通过患者转归的改善反映出来;(3)在这些临床情况下TCD是否优于其他诊断性检查。结果:在筛查2～16岁镰状细胞病患儿的卒中风险(A级推荐,Ⅰ级证据)以及检测和监测自发性蛛网膜下腔出血后的血管痉挛方面(A级推荐,Ⅰ～Ⅱ级证据),TCD具有确定的价值。在检测颅内血管狭窄闭塞性疾病(B级推荐,Ⅱ～Ⅲ级证据)、血管舒缩反应性试验(B级推荐,Ⅱ～Ⅲ级证据)、检测脑循环停止/脑死亡(A级推荐,Ⅱ级证据)、监测颈动脉内膜切除术(B级推荐,Ⅱ～Ⅲ级证据)、监测溶栓治疗(B级推荐,Ⅱ～Ⅲ级证据)和监测冠状动脉旁路移植术(B～C级推荐,Ⅱ～Ⅲ级证据)方面,TCD和TCCS可提供重要的信息并可能有价值。对于心内/心外右向左分流(A级推荐,Ⅱ级证据)、颅内血管闭塞性疾病(B级推荐,Ⅱ～Ⅳ级证据)和出血性脑血管病(B级推荐,Ⅱ～Ⅳ级证据),尽管其他技术可能更优越,但对比增强TCD/TCCS也能提供有用的信息。

A male Caucasian patient is presented with a greater than 10year history of painless weakness of the right leg, stable over the last 7 years. His examination demonstrated severe wasting and moderate weakness of his right calf muscle. Electrodiagnostic study revealed acute denervation of the right calf and chronic partial denervation of multiple right leg muscles. mRI demonstrated atrophy and fatty infiltration of the right calf muscles. Based on previous clinical, electrophysiologic, and radiologic descriptions of this disorder, a diagnosis was made of benign monomelic amyotrophy of the lower limb. Serologic examination for anti-glycoconjugate antibodies revealed high titers of Igm antibodies with selective binding to the disialoganglioside N-acetylgalactosaminyl GD1a (GalNAcGD1a). Testing for antibodies to GalNAcGD1a should be considered in patients with this phenotype. Their presence could suggest a role for immunomodulatory therapy.

目的:探讨载脂蛋白E基因剔除眼apolipoproteinEgene鄄knockout,apoE穴鄄/鄄雪演小鼠冠状动脉外膜炎性细胞在粥样硬化病灶发生、发展过程中的变化规律。方法:取30、60和120周apoE(鄄/鄄)小鼠心脏做连续切片,分别用HE染色、免疫组化、透射电镜鉴定冠状动脉外膜炎性细胞类型。结果:30周小鼠冠状动脉外膜以中性粒细胞浸润为主,构成比是66.04%,明显高于60周(6.49%)和120周(3.86%)的小鼠,P均<0.05;60和120周小鼠冠状动脉外膜以淋巴细胞浸润为主,构成比分别是59.74%和72.03%,明显高于30周(21.38%),P均<0.05。结论:在动脉粥样硬化病灶形成的过程中,外膜炎症经历了由急性炎症向慢性炎症病理变化的过程。

Observed weather and projected climate change suggest an increase in the transmission of vector-borne diseases(VBDs)in the Hindu Kush Himalayan(HKH)*** this study,we systematically explore the literature for empiric associations between the climate variables and specific VBDs and their vectors in the HKH *** conducted a systematic synthesis of the published literature on climate variables,VBDs and vectors in the HKH region until the 8th of December *** majority of studies show significant positive associations of VBDs with climatic factors,such as temperature,precipitation,relative humidity,*** systematic review allowed us to identify the most significant variables to be considered for evidence-based trend estimates of the effects of climate change on VBDs and their vectors in the HKH *** evidence-based trend was set into the context of climate change as well as the observed expansion of VBDs and disease vectors in the HKH *** geographic range of VBDs expanded into previously considered non-endemic areas of highlands(mountains)in the HKH region.B ased on scarce,but clear evidence of a positive relationship of most climate variables and VBDs and the observed climatic changes,we strongly recommend an expansion of vector control and surveillance programmes in areas of the HKH region that were previously considered to be non-endemic.
