The southern regions of madagascar have the country’s lowest water supply coverage and are highly vulnerable to *** to potable drinking water is a major challenge for the local *** droughts lead to annual emergency appeals to save the lives of acute malnourished ***’s response consisting in providing potable drinking water through the drilling of boreholes has been challenged by the complex hydrogeology,the low yield of boreholes and high-level salinity of water,the lack of reliable groundwater data and the weak capacity of the drilling *** constraints result in a high rate of drilling *** improve drilling success and provide more potable drinking water to local communities,it is vital to undertake reliable groundwater *** madagascar and the European Union delegation in madagascar collaborated on the use of satellite imagery to improve sector knowledge and access to safe and clean water for local communities in southern *** methodology relies on produce thematic layers of groundwater potential ***,these thematic layers were overlaid with ground-based hydrogeological data to map the groundwater potential zones(GWP) and identify the most suitable sites for borehole siting and *** of this study are very encouraging,and the integrated approach used has proven its applicability in mapping groundwater potential areas in the eight drought-affected areas of south *** groundwater potential zone map is being used by UNICEF and partners to plan water supply projects and identify the best sites for positioning new boreholes and reduce the likelihood of drilling ***,the project developed a database of groundwater resources,which will improve knowledge of the regional hydrogeological context and strengthen the capacity of the water *** learnt from this study show that an integration of the groundwater potential zone map with demographics a

In the last decade,attention has become greater to the relationship between neurodegeneration and abnormal insulin signaling in the central nervous system,as insulin in the brain is implicated in neuronal survival,plasticity,oxidative stress and *** mellitus and Parkinson’s disease are both aging-associated diseases that are turning into epidemics *** mellitus and insulin resistance not only increase the possibility of developing Parkinson’s disease but can also determine the prognosis and progression of Parkinsonian ***,there are no available curative or disease modifying treatments for Parkinson’s disease,but the role of insulin and antidiabetic medications in neurodegeneration opens a door to treatment repurposing to fight against Parkinson’s disease,both in diabetic and nondiabetic Parkinsonian ***,it is essential to comprehend how a frequent and treatable disease such as diabetes can influence the progression of neurodegeneration in a challenging disease such as Parkinson’s ***,we review the present evidence on the connection between Parkinson’s disease and diabetes and the consequential implications of the existing antidiabetic molecules in the severity and development of Parkinsonism,with a particular focus on glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists.

Efficient removal of the recalcitrant metamizole contaminant from drinking water by using a CaLaCoO_(9) perovskite supported on recycled polyethylene

metamizole(mZ)is a widely used anti-inflammatory *** to its common use,this contaminant is found in sewage and *** order to reduce the contamination produced by the mZ,we fabricated in this work a photocatalytic composite using recycled polyethylene(RPE)and the CaLaCoO_(9)(LCCO)*** nanoparticles had a microplate-like morphology and sizes of 1.4–5.5μm according to the analysis of *** photocatalytic properties of the LCCO powders were evaluated under ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)irradiation and found a removal efficiency of 96%.When the RPE+LCCO composite was employed for the photocatalytic degradation of mZ,a maximum degradation of 92.5%was *** influence of the pH on the photocatalytic activity was also studied and found that an initial pH=3 produced a total degradation of mZ after 240 min of UV-Vis ***,three reuse cycles were carried out for the pure LCCO powders and for the RPE+LCCO composites and found that the maximum loss of degradation was 5%.Furthermore,scavenger experiments demonstrated that the super oxide and hydroxyl radicals are formed during the photocatalytic reaction and were responsible for the degradation of ***,the X-ray photoelectron-spectroscopy and Raman analysis demonstrated the formation of defects(oxygen vacancies),those ones delayed the electron-hole recombination,which in turn,enhanced the degradation of the ***,the studies performed in this work proved that composites made with recycled plastics and LCCO perovskites are a low-cost and feasible alternative for the cleaning of water sources polluted with pharmaceutical compounds.

Emeralds-the green colored variety of beryl-occur as gem-quality specimens in over fifty deposits *** digital traceability methods for emerald have limitations,sample-based approaches offer robust alterna-tives,particularly for determining the geographic origin of *** factors make emerald suitable for provenance studies and hence for developing models for origin ***,the diverse elemental chemistry of emerald at minor(mw)exhibits unique inter-element fractionations between global ***,minimally destructive techniques,including laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(LA-ICP-mS),enable measurement of these diagnostic elemental ***,when applied to extensive datasets,machine learning(mL)techniques enable the creation of predictive models and statistical discrimination with adequate characterization of the *** study em-ploys a carefully selected dataset comprising more than 1000 LA-ICP-mS analyses of gem-quality emeralds,enriched with new *** dataset represents the largest available for global emerald *** con-ducted unsupervised exploratory analysis using Principal Component Analysis(PCA).For machine learning-based classification,we employed Support Vector machine Classification(SVm-C),achieving an initial accu-racy rate of 79%.This was enhanced to 96.8%through the use of hierarchical SVm-C with PCA filters as our modeling *** mL models were trained using the concentrations of eight statistically significant ele-ments(Li,V,Cr,Fe,Sc,Ga,Rb,Cs).By leveraging high-quality LA-ICP-mS data and mL techniques,accurate identification of the geographical origin of emerald becomes *** models are important for accurate provenance of emerald,and from a geochemical perspective,for understanding the formation environments of beryl-bearing pegmatites and shales.

Insights into the origin of precipitation moisture for tropical cyclones during rapid intensification process

In this study,we identiﬁed the moisture sources for the precipitation associated with tropical cyclones(TCs)during the rapid intensiﬁcation(RI)process from 1980 to 2018 by applying a Lagrangian moisture source diagnostic *** detected sixteen regions on a global scale for RI events distributed as follows:four in the North Atlantic(NATL),two in the Central and East Paciﬁc Ocean(NEPAC),the North Indian Ocean(NIO)and South Indian Ocean(SIO),and three in the South Paciﬁc Ocean(SPO)and the Western North Paciﬁc Ocean(WNP).The moisture uptake(mU)mostly was from the regions where TCs underwent *** Western NATL,tropical NATL,Caribbean Sea,the Gulf of mexico and the Central America and mexico landmass supported~85.4%of the precipitating moisture in the NATL,while the latter source and the eastern North Paciﬁc Ocean provided the higher amount of moisture in NEPAC(~84.3%).The Arabian Sea,the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Peninsula were the major moisture sources in NIO,contributing approximately 81.3%.The eastern and western parts of the Indian Ocean supplied most of the atmospheric humidity in SIO(~83.8%).The combined contributions(~87.9%)from the western and central SPO and the Coral Sea were notably higher in ***,TCs in the WNP basin mostly received moisture from the western North Paciﬁc Ocean,the Philippine Sea and the China Sea,accounting for 80.1%.The remaining moisture support in each basin came from the summed contributions of the remote ***,RI TCs gained more moisture up to 2500 km from the cyclone centre than those slow intensiﬁcation(SI)and the total mU was approximately three times higher during RI than ***,the patterns of the mU differences respond to the typical pathways of moisture transport in each basin.

The sexually dimorphic expression of glutamate transporters and their implication in pain after spinal cord injury

In addition to the loss of motor function,~60% of patients develop pain after spinal cord *** cellular-molecular mechanisms are not well understood,but the data suggests that plasticity within the rostral,epicenter,and caudal penumbra of the injury site initiates a cellularmolecular interplay that acts as a rewiring mechanism leading to central neuropathic *** can lead to the formation of new connections triggering abnormal sensory *** excitatory glutamate transporters are responsible for the reuptake of extracellular glutamate which makes them a critical target to prevent neuronal hyperexcitability and *** previous studies showed a sexually dimorphic therapeutic window for spinal cord injury after treatment with the selective estrogen receptor modulator *** this study,we investigated the anti-allodynic effects of tamoxifen in male and female rats with spinal cord *** hypothesized that tamoxifen exerts anti-allodynic effects by increasing the expression of glutamate transporters,leading to reduced hyperexcitability of the secondary neuron or by decreasing aberrant *** and female rats received a moderate contusion to the thoracic spinal cord followed by subcutaneous slow-release treatment of tamoxifen or matrix pellets as a control(placebo).We used von Frey monofilaments and the“up-down method”to evaluate mechanical *** treatment decreased allodynia only in female rats with spinal cord injury revealing a sexdependent *** expression profile of glutamatergic transporters(excitatory amino acid transporter 1/glutamate aspartate transporter and excitatory amino acid transporter 2/glutamate transporter-1)revealed a sexual dimorphism in the rostral,epicenter,and caudal areas of the spinal cord with a pattern of expression primarily on *** rodents showed a significantly higher level of excitatory amino acid transporter-1 expression while male rodents showed increased
