Origin of clay minerals on section of Luochuan loesspalaeosol in Shaanxi Province,northwest China

Crystallinity,polytype,and morphology of clay minerals in the Luochuan loess-palaeosols in Shaanxi Province,northwest China were studied in order to have an insight into their origin using X-ray diffraction(XrD)analysis and scanning electron microscopy(SEm)*** SEm observations showed that the morphology of some illites seems to be lath-shaped *** analysis of illite crystallinity(IC)on the Luochuan section indicated that the origin of illite was related to the rocks of an *** illite in the Luochuan loess-palaeosol section were of 2m1 polytype,but some were of 1m polytype formed by weathering of feldspar in the process of *** in the Luochuan section has undergone both physical and chemical *** results revealed that most illite were of detrital origin related to the source area of an anchizone,but parts of the illite were of an authigenic origin formed during pedogenesis after *** in the samples of the Luochuan section were mainly composed of irregular flaky grains and their crystallinity was *** showed that chlorite had the detrital origin formed by physical *** crystallinity was relatively *** value of CIA on the Luochuan section ranges from 61.9 to 69,and therefore kaolinite could not be formed during weathering and *** results indicated that the kaolinite had a detrital *** of smectite seems to be *** XrD patterns of all samples contained diffraction peaks at 1.5218Å(nontronite)and 1.5052Å(montmorillonite),thus indicating an intermediate composition between trioctahedral and dioctahedral *** smectite crystallinity was very *** results revealed that smectite in the study area was authigenic rather than detrital origin.

AIm: Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) is associated with increased gastric inflammatory and epithelial expression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (mIF) and gastric epithelial cell proliferation. This study aimed at determining whether H pylori directly stimulates release of mIF in monocytes, whether the cag pathogenicity island (PAI) is involved for this function, and whether mIF stimulated by H pylori increases gastric epithelial cell proliferation in vitro. mETHODS: A cytotoxic wild-type H pylori strain (TN2), its three isogenic mutants (TN2Δcag,TN2ΔcagA and TN2ΔcagE) were co-cultured with cells of a human monocyte cell line, THP-1, for 24 h at different organism/ cell ratios. mIF in the supernatants was measured by an ELISA. Cells of a human gastric cancer cell line, mKN45, were then co-cultured with the supernatants, with and without monoclonal anti-mIF antibody for 24 h. The cells were further incubated for 12 h after addition of 3H-thymidine, and the levels of incorporation of 3H-thymidine were measured with a liquid scintillation counter. rESULTS: The wild-type strain and the isogenic mutants, TN2ΔcagA and TN2ΔcagE, increased mIF release at organism/cell ratios of 200/1 and 400/1, but not at the ratios of 50/1 and 100/1. However, the mutant TN2Δcag did not increase the release of mIF at any of the four ratios. 3H-thymidine readings for mKN-45 cells were significantly increased with supernatants derived from the wild-type strain and the mutants TN2ΔcagA and TN2ΔcagE, but not from the mutant TN2Δcag. moreover, in the presence of monoclonal anti-mIF antibody, the stimulatory effects of the wild-type strain on cell proliferation disappeared. CONCLUSION: H pylori stimulates mIF release in monocytes, likely through its cag PAI, but not related to cagA or cagE. H pylori-stimulated monocyte culture supernatant increases gastric cell proliferation, which is blocked by anti-mIF antibody, suggesting that mIF plays an important role in H pylori-induced gastric ep

Predictors for difficult cecal insertion in colonoscopy: The impact of obesity indices

AIm To identify the factors influencing cecal insertion time(CIT) and to evaluate the effect of obesity indices on CIT. mETHODS We retrospectively reviewed the data for participants who received both colonoscopy and abdominal computed tomography(CT) from February 2008 to may 2008 as part of a comprehensive health screening program. Age, gender, obesity indices [body mass index(BmI), waist-to-hip circumference ratio(WHr), waist circumference(WC), visceral adipose tissue(VAT)volume and subcutaneous adipose tissue(SAT) volume on abdominal CT], history of prior abdominal surgery, constipation, experience of the colonoscopist, quality of bowel preparation, diverticulosis and time required to reach the cecum were analyzed. CIT was categorized as longer than 10 min(prolonged CIT) and shorter than or equal to 10 min, and then the factors that required a CIT longer than 10 min were *** A total of 1678 participants were enrolled. The mean age was 50.42 ± 9.931 years and 60.3% were men. The mean BmI, WHr, WC, VAT volume and SAT volume were 23.92 ± 2.964 kg/m2, 0.90 ± 0.076, 86.95 ± 8.030 cm, 905.29 ± 475.220 cm3 and 1707.72 ± 576.550 cm3, respectively. The number of patients who underwent abdominal surgery was 268(16.0%). Colonoscopy was performed by an attending physician alone in 61.9% of cases and with the involvement of a fellow in 38.1% of cases. The median CIT was 7 min(range 2-56 min, IQr 5-10 min), and mean CIT was 8.58 ± 5.291 min. Being female, BmI, VAT volume and involvement of fellow were significantly associated with a prolonged CIT in univariable analysis. In multivariable analysis, being female(Or = 1.29, P = 0.047), lower BmI(m2)(Or = 1.62, P = 0.004) or higher BmI(≥ 25 kg/m2)(Or = 1.80, P me(m3)(Or = 1.50, P = 0.013) and fellow involvement(Or = 1.73, P re significant predictors of prolonged CIT. AIm: To evaluate the long-term risk of gastroduodenal ulcer and cardiovascular events induced by celecoxib in a population-based, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled ***: From 2004 to 2006, a total of 1024 Chinese patients (aged 35 to 64 years) with severe chronic atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia or dysplasia were randomly assigned to receive 200 mg of celecoxib twice daily or placebo in Linqu County (Shandong Province, China), a high-risk area of gastric cancer. All gastroduodenal ulcer and cardiovascular events occurred were recorded and the patients were followed up for 1.5 years after treatment. At the end of the trial, a systematic interview survey about other adverse events was conducted. rESULTS: Gastroduodenal ulcer was detected in 19 of 463 (3.72%) patients who received celecoxib and 17 of 473 (3.31%) patients who received placebo, respectively (odds ratio = 1.13, 95% CI = 0.58-2.19). Cardiovascular (CV) events occurred in 4 patients who received celecoxib and in 5 patients who received placebo, respectively. Compared with those who received placebo, patients who received celecoxib had no signif icant increase in occurrence of CV events (hazard ratio = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.23-3.15). Among the adverse events acquired by interview survey, only the frequency of bloating was signif icantly higher in patients treated with celecoxib than in those treated with placebo. CONCLUSION: Treatment of gastric cancer with celecoxib is not associated with increased risk of gastroduodenal ulcer and cardiovascular events.

White organic light-emitting diodes were fabricated with two separated emissive layers using a blue fluorescent dopant and a red phosphorescent *** L-V characteristics of the device A and B showed maximum luminance of 26 100 and 21 100 cd/m at 14V and the maximum luminous efficiency of the devices showed 11.3 and 9.7 cd/A,respectively. The CIE coordinates of device A and B showed (x=0.27,y=0.35)and (x=0.33,y=0.33) at 10 *** device used BAlq as a host demonstrated proper white CIE coordinates and also showed white emission at operating voltages (4V-14V) without shifting of CIE coordinates.
