motivated by the application of Winkler-like models for the buckling analysis of embedded carbon nanotubes, an orthotropic Winkler-like model is developed to study the buckling behavior of embedded cytoskeletal microtubules within the cytoplasm. Experimental observations of the buckling of embedded cytoskeletal microtubules reveal that embedded microtubules bear a large compressive force as compared with free microtubules. The present theoretical model predicts that embedded microtubules in an elastic medium bear large compressive forces than free microtubules. The estimated critical pressure is in good agreement with the experimental values of the pressure-induced buckling of microtubules. moreover, due to the mechanical coupling of microtubules with the surrounding elastic medium, the critical buckling force is increased considerably, which well explains the theory that the mechanical coupling of microtubules with an elastic medium increases compressive forces that microtubules can sustain. The model presented in the paper is a good approximation for the buckling analysis of embedded microtubules.

In this paper, we study the stability of locally rotationally symmetric(LRS) Bianchi I universe model in f(T) gravity through phase space analysis. We assume that the f(T) gravity can be treated as effective dark energy behaving like perfect fluid, and suggest that there are interactions between pressureless matter as well as dark *** construct the corresponding autonomous system of equations to check the stability of the model for non phantom,vacuum and phantom phases. It is concluded that critical points remain more stable in phantom phase as compared to non phantom and vacuum cases. Finally, we discuss the cosmological behavior of the model through some cosmological parameters.

The accuracy of the cloud-aerosol lidar with orthogonal polarization (CALIOP), moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (mODIS), multi-Angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction (mAIAC), and Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) aerosol optical depth (AOD) products for the Arctic north of 59.75°N was examined by means of 35 aerosol robotic network (AERONET) AOD sites. The assessment for June to October 2006 to 2020 showed mAIAC AOD agreed the best with AERONET AOD;CALIOP AOD differed the strongest from the AERONET AOD. Cross-correlations of CALIOP AOD along the satellite path indicated that AOD-values 40 km up-and-down the path often failed to represent the AERONET AOD-values within ±30 min of the overpass in this region dominated by easterly winds. Typically, CALIOP AOD was lower than AERONET AOD and mAIAC AOD at the sites, especially, at sites with mean AOD below 0.1. Generally, mODIS AOD values exceeded those of mAIAC. Comparison of CALIOP, mAIAC, and mODIS products resampled on a 0.25° × 0.25° grid revealed differences among the products caused by their temporal and spatial resolution, sample habit and size. Typically, the mODIS AOD-product showed the most details in AOD distribution. Despite differences in AOD-values, all products provided similar temporal evolution of elevated and lower AOD.

Jet flows from bubbles during subcooled pool boiling on micro wires

An experimental investigation was conducted on subcooled nucleate boiling on ultra-small wires having diameters of 25―100 μm. High-speed photography and laser PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) technology were used to visually observe the bubble dynamics. For highly subcooled boiling at moderate heat fluxes, the bubbles generally remained attached to the micro heating wires and bubble-top jet flows were clearly observed. Smaller bubbles usually had stronger bubble-top jet flows, while larger bubbles seemed to produce multi-jet flows. The structures of the bubble-top jet flows, as well as multi-jet flows, were proposed from the experimental observation. A model was developed to describe jet flow phenomena from bubbles on micro wires. Numerical simulations for bubbles having diameter of 0.03 and 0.06 mm showed that both the bubble-top and multi-jet flows were induced by a strong marangoni effect due to high temperature gradients near the wire. The predicted velocity magnitudes and flow structures agreed very well with experimental measurements. The bubble size relative to the wire is an important factor affecting the jet flow structure. For a 0.03 mm bubble on a 0.1 mm wire, only a bubble-top jet flow forms, while a complex multi-jet flow pattern forms around the bubble with a weak bubble-top jet and two side jet flows for a 0.06 mm bubble.

The direct numerical simulation of Navier-Stokes equations in the turbulent regime is not computationally feasible either in the deterministic or （especially） in the stochastic case. Therefore, turbulent modeling must be employed. We consider the family of approximate deconvolution models （ADm） for the simulation of the turbulent stochastic Navier-Stokes equations （NSE）. For moderate values of the Reynolds number, we investi- gate the effect stochastic forcing （through the boundary conditions） has on the accuracy of solutions of the ADm equations compared to direct numerical simulations. Although the existence, uniqueness and verifiability of the ADm solutions has already been proven in the deterministic setting, the analyticity of a solution of the stochastic NSE is diffi- cult to prove. Hence, we approach the problem from the computational point of view. A Smolyak-type sparse grid stochastic collocation method is employed for the approximation of first two statistical moments of the solution - the expected value and variance. We show that for different test problems, the modeling error in the stochastic case is the same as predicted for the deterministic setting. Although the ADms are arguably only applicable for certain boundary conditions （zero or periodic）, we test the model on a problem with a boundary layer and recirculation region and demonstrate that the model correctly predicts the solution of the stochastic NSE with the noise in the boundary data.
