Information about the peak skin dose and Dose Area product (DAP) from percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and coronary angiography (CA) was collected from three catheter application rooms. The range of maximum photon energy was 50 - 125 kVp and the fluoroscopy time was 0.6 - 52 seconds. Values of up to 143 Gy·cm2 for DAP and 0.752 mGy for cumulative dose (CD) were found in CA procedures. Otherwise the DAP and CD for PTCA were found to be 143 Gy·cm2 and 2.287 mGy respectively in 3rd Quartile. The relation between the fluoroscopy time and the DAP is also considered. Objectives: The objective of this study is to obtain information about patient peak skin doses (PSD), dose area product (DAP), Fluoroscopy Time (FT) and Cumulative Dose (CD) from PTCA and CA which is the most predominant with respect to high skin doses in addition to other procedures. The aim of this study is also to assess the radiation dose received by patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures, by identifying the procedures that deliver the highest doses. This study is also helpful to establish the reference dose level for adult patients undergoing interventional procedure, and to provide recommendations on how to reduce dose on selected procedures that have been identified to deliver patient dose values near the ICRP (International Commission on Radiological Protection) threshold values.

Radiation protection programs aims to reduce the radiation dose to the lowest possible level under the Dose Limit (DL) limit by the national or international laws, while the dose monitoring programs working as scale used to evaluating the efficiency of these programs and tools. In this study, the average of the annual Eff dose for the intensive care units at hamad General hospital (hGh) is less than the 50% of DL. It was aiming also to evaluate the efficiency of the radiation safety requirements (especially the shielding Adequacy) for the non radiation workers at oncology centers, hence several monitors were installed in chosen locations outside the radiation treatment machine from 2007 to 2011.

Themedian age at diagnosis was 9 years (5-11). Ninety-eight (39.2%) patients required upper GIEalone, 41 (16.4%) required colonoscopy alone, and 111 (44.4%) required both. LGIB was morefrequent (n = 151, 60.4%) than UGIB (n = 119, 47.6%). There were no significant differences in sex (P = 0.710), age (P = 0.185), or nationality (P = 0.525) between the two groups. Abnormalendoscopic findings were detected in 226 (90.4%) patients. The common cause of LGIB was inflammatorybowel disease (IBD) (n = 77, 30.8%). The common cause of UGIB was gastritis (n = 70, 28%).IBD and undetermined cause for bleeding were higher in the 10-18 years group (P = 0.026 and P =0.017, respectively). Introduction: hemorrhoids are a frequent and familiar concern of patients in the general practice and surgery settings. Colonoscopy is both diagnostic and therapeutic. In Qatar, There are little data available about coincidental pathology in elderly patients with hemorrhoids. Objective: To assess the outcome of colonoscopy in management patients with hemorrhoidal disease and average-risk for colorectal cancer and its clinical significance. method: A retrospective study of 200 patients with hemorrhoids with average risk colorectal cancer (anal bleeding and anal symptoms) and subjected to colonoscopic examination at Al khor hospital’s endoscopy unit during the period from may 2005 till August 2012. Patients below 50 years and high risk patients for colorectal cancer;with the following alarm signs: Positive personal history of colorectal neoplasms or Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), positive first degree family history of colorectal neoplasms, history of altered bowel habits, recent significant weight loss, presence of iron deficiency anemia, and history of previous colonoscopy were excluded. All significant endoscopic co-findings (diverticuli, polyps, cancer, angiodysplasia and varices, or colitis) were recorded. Results: There were 200 patients;134 male, 66 female;mean patient age was 56.3 years (range, 50 to 82 years), who met the eligibility criteria. 200 colonoscopies were performed. Evaluation of these patients revealed Polyps in 16 patients (13 benign and 3 malignant), seven malignant lesions(one annular lesion and 6 fungating masses), Ulcerative colitis in 5 patients, no crohn’s disease, diverticular disease in 4 patients, no Vascular malformations, bleeding piles in 3 patients controlled by injection, and 65.5% of patients were free from any additional pathology. Colonoscopy changed the treatment plan in 58 patients (29%). No complications were encountered. AIm:To study the relation between hepatitis C virus (hCV) genotype 4 and microalbuminuria and renal impairment in relation to hepatic histology, and viremia in the absence of cryoglobulinemia, and to examine the effect of treatment on ***: Three hundred subjects, including 233 hCV genotype-4 infected patients, were tested for cryoglobulinemia, microalbuminuria, albumin creatinine ratio (ACR), urea, creatinine, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). The parameters were measured again in the hCV patients after 48 wk of treatment with pegylated interferon and ***: Significantly higher levels of microalbumin- uria were detected in hCV-positive patients compared to hCV-negative controls (median 9.5 vs 5.9, respectively, kruskal-Wallis P=0.017). Log microalbuminuria was significantly correlated with hepatic inflammation (r=0.13, P=0.036) and f ibrosis (r=0.12, P=0.061), but not with viral load (r=-0.03, P=0.610), or alanine transaminase (r=-0.03, P=0.617). Diabetes mellitus neither significantly moderated (χ2=0.13, P=0.720), nor mediated (Sobel test P=0.49) the hCV effect. hCV status was signifi cantly associated with log microalbu-minuria (χ2=4.97, P=0.026), adjusting for age, gender, diabetes, cryoglobulinemia, urea and creatinine. A positive hCV status was not significantly associated with low eGFR (mL/min every 1.73 m2) [odds ratio (OR): 0.5, 95% confidence interval (CI):0.2-1.4], nor with high ACR (OR: 1.7, 95% CI:0.7-4.1). End-of-treatment response (ETR) was achieved in 51.9% of patients. Individuals with ETR had significantly lower microalbuminuria post-treatment (χ2=8.19, P=0.004).CONCLUSION: hCV affected the development of microalbuminuria independent of diabetes or cryoglobulinemia. Combination therapy of pegylated interferon-ribavirin had a positive effect in reducing microalbuminuria.

In patients with diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease is the principal cause of mortality and chest pain is the most frequent symptom in patients with stable and acute coronary artery disease. however, there is little knowledge concerning the pervasiveness of uncommon presentations in diabetics. The symptomatology of acute coronary syndrome, which comprises both pain and non-pain symptoms, may be affected by traditional risk factors such as age, gender, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. Such atypical symptoms may range from silent myocardial ischemia to a wide spectrum of non-chest pain symptoms. Worldwide, few studies have highlighted this under-investigated subject, and this aspect of ischemic heart disease has also been under-evaluated in the major clinical trials. The results of these studies are highly diverse which makes definitive conclusions regarding the spectrum of atypical presentation of acute and even stable chronic coronay artery disease difficult to confirm. This may have a significant impact on the morbidity and mortality of coronary artery disease in diabetics. In this up-to-date review we will try to analyze the most recent studies on the atypical presentations in both acute and chronic ischemic heart disease which may give some emphasis to this under-investigated topic.

目的:报告16例颅内结核瘤患者的临床、影像学表现及抗结核治疗的结果。设计:本文共纳入苏丹khartoun市全国神经系统疾病中心连续观察的16例脑结核瘤患者。诊断则依据其临床、头颅影像学特征及对抗结核治疗有效等方面。本组中共有7例具有脑组织或脑外组织的病理组织学资料。结果与结论:本组病例最常见的临床表现是头痛(100%)、全身性抽搐(68.7%)及偏瘫(56.2%)。头颅横断面电子计算机体层摄影(CT)/核磁共振成像(mRI)显示单个或多个明显增强的病变及病灶周围水肿。经抗结核治疗后,多数存活患者(13/15)病变完全吸收。病变部分吸收与就诊延迟、颅内多个大病灶及晚期粟粒性结核病有关。我们主张对颅内结核瘤,即使是拟诊病例,应早期经验性试用抗结核治疗,尤其在结核病高发地区。
