Five perovskite ceramics samples of Ba_(1-x)Er_(x)SnO_(3) with x=0.00,0.05,0.10,0.15,and 0.20 were synthesized using the conventional solid-state reaction *** prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transforms infrared(FTIR),and UV-Vis *** shielding properties against ionizing radiation were also *** XRD analysis shows the perovskite cubic structure as the major phase in all *** FTIR reveals a distinctive band around 614-620 cm^(-1) ascribed to the antisymmetric O-Sn-O ***-Vis spectroscopy was used to determine the bandgap according to diffuse reflectance,and the results display a fixed enhancement in the bandgap from 3.2 to 3.3 eV for all ***-ray shielding properties of the synthesized samples were experimentally measured and compared with XCOm computational *** relative differences(Δ,%)between experimental and theo retical values are low and fall within the 0.446%-7.10%*** addition of Er leads to the enhanced density,neutron,and gamma shielding *** contrast,charged particles’shielding parameters gradually reduce with rising Er *** results suggest that Ba_(1-x)Er_(x)SnO_(3) samples can be used in different radiation shielding applications.

AIm:To determine whether the levator palpebrae superioris(LPS)/superior rectus(SR)muscle complex,can influence the position of the upper lid and fornix in acquired anophthalmic ***:This comparative non-randomized and non-interventional study included retrospective data of 21 patients with unilateral acquired anophthalmic sockets repaired with spheric ***-resolution computed tomography(CT)measurements of the LPm/SR muscle complex and clinical topographic position of the upper lid,superior and inferior fornix depth in primary gaze position were *** data were presented as frequency and percentage proportions and quantitative variables comparing the socket measurements with the normal contralateral orbit was statistically analyzed using non-parametric tests considering Phe anophthalmic orbits had a significantly shorter LPS length(P=0.01)and significantly thicker SR(P=0.02)than the normal *** was present in anophthalmic sockets but not in normal orbits(P=0.002),while levator function was normal in both(P>0.05,all comparisons).The superior fornix depth was similar in the anophthalmic socket and the contralateral normal orbit(P=0.192)as well the inferior fornix depth(P=0.351).CONCLUSION:Acquired anophthalmic sockets repaired with spheric implants have shorter LPS,thicker SR,and more lagophthalmos than normal *** relationship of the LPS and SR with other orbital structures,associated with passive or active forces acting in the final position of the lids and external ocular prosthesis should be further investigated.

Refinement and estimation of asphalt flow number using partial load history

The effect of tertiary flow length on asphalt concrete(AC) flow number(FN) has been studied in this paper. The standard FN test(AAShTO T378) designated by American Association of State highway and Transportation Officials(AAShTO) is currently among the widely adopted test for assessing the rutting performance of AC mixtures. The standard adopts the Fracken model(Fm) for fitting the permanent deformation curve(PDC), prior to FN estimation. The FN was observed to vary as tertiary flow progresses. The Fm, along with other PDC models(mFm-1 and mFm-2) obtained by modifying the Fm, was utilized to analyze and minimized this variation. Variation of FN resulted because of mathematization of the PDC data. Instead of representing the actual initiating point of permanent shear deformation of the strain data, estimated values of FN were observed to indicate the inflection points of the fitted parent curve. As per standard FN range suggested by AAShTO T378, the observed variation in FN leads to the situation, where a single asphalt mix specimen can be regarded as appropriate for two different traffic levels, depending on the tertiary flow point at which the test is terminated. Supplementary steps in the FN estimation methods were proposed for refinement of FN values. For the refinement and further standardization of FN value and FN test respectively, FN:T(flow number to test duration ratio) has been recognized as the key and most simple solution. Two potential options for employing FN:T in the estimation of FN have also been highlighted. Several important correlations have been reported herein as well. Comparatively, mFm-1 was found to be more robust in FN:T curve utilization than mFm-2 and Fm.

On the Effect of mist Flow on the heat Transfer Performances of a Three-Copper- Sphere Configuration

The cooling of a(pebble bed)spent fuel in a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor(hTGR)is adversely affected by an increase in the temperature of the used gas(air).To investigate this problem,a configuration consisting of three copper spheres arranged in tandem subjected to a forced mistflow inside a cylindrical channel is *** heat transfer coefficients and related variations as a function of Reynolds number are investigated *** experimental results show that when compared to those with only airflow,the heat transfer coefficient of the spherical elements with mistflow(j=112 kg/m2 hr,Re=55000)increases by 180%,75%,and 20%,respec-tively for thefirst,second,and third spherical element(the corresponding heat transfer enhancement ratio being 2.3,1.4,and 1.1).Additional numerical simulations reveal that the presence of stagnant zones with intense vortex formation around each spherical element contributes significantly to determine the heat transfer behavior.

BACkGROUND Acute leg compartment syndrome is a well-known orthopedic emergency associated with potentially devastating consequences if not treated *** compartments are usually involved with a clear history of trauma and classic symptoms and ***,isolated lateral leg compartment syndrome is relatively rare and is often misdiagnosed due to the atypical presentation of no trauma and the lack of pathognomonic *** SUmmARY A 31-year-old male patient presented to our emergency room with excruciating left calf pain and inability to mobilize one-day after participating in a football match despite no clear history of preceding *** patient went to another hospital before presenting to us where he was diagnosed to have a soft tissue injury and was discharged home on simple *** clinical examination,the left leg showed a tense lateral compartment with severe *** pain was aggravated by dorsiflexion and ankle *** examination of the limb was *** suspected a compartment syndrome but as the presentation was atypical and an magnetic resonance imaging(mRI)was readily available in our institution,we immediately performed an mRI and this confirmed a large hematoma in the lateral compartment with a possible partial proximal peroneus longus muscle *** patient was taken immediately for an emergency open *** patient is now 18 mo postoperatively having recovered completely and engages fully in sports with no *** Atypical presentation due to the lack of pathognomonic signs makes the diagnosis of isolated lateral leg compartment syndrome *** on passive inversion and dorsiflexion and weak active eversion may be suggested as sensitive signs.

Crystal structure guided machine learning for the discovery and design of intrinsically hard materials

In this work,a machine learning(mL)model was created to predict intrinsic hardness of various compounds using their crystal *** this purpose,an initial dataset,containing the hardness values of 270 compounds and counterpart applied loads,was employed in the learning *** on various features generated using crystal information,an mL model,with a high accuracy(R^(2)=0.942),was built using extreme gradient boosting(XGB)*** validations conducted by hardness measurements of various compounds,including mSi_(2)(m=Nb,Ce,V,and Ta),Al_(2)O_(3),and FeB_(4),showed that the XGB model was able to reproduce load-dependent hardness behaviors of these *** addition,this model was also used to predict the behavior based on prototype crystal structures that are randomly substituted with elements.
