The energy-water nexus,or the dependence of energy on water and water on energy,continues to receive attention as impacts on both energy and water supply and demand from growing popula-tions and climate-related stresses are evaluated for future infra-structure *** in water and energy demand are related to changes in regional temperature,and precipitation extremes can affect water resources available for energy genera-tion for those regional ***,the vulnerabilities to the energy and water nexus are beyond the physical infrastruc-tures themselves and extend into supporting and interdependent *** of these vulnerabilities relies on the integration of the disparate and distributed data associated with each of the infrastructures,environments and populations served,and robust analytical methodologies of the data.A capability for the deployment of these methods on relevant data from multiple components on a single platform can provide actionable informa-tion for interested communities,not only for individual energy and water systems,but also for the system of systems that they ***,we survey the highest priority data needs and analy-tical methods for inclusion on such a platform.

The contamination of drinking water in Pakistan is a serious threat to its citizens. Urbanization leads to an increased demand of drinking water supply that leads to excessive drawdown that further causes lowering of water table. The current WASA (Water and Sanitation Authority) supply network does not fulfill the demand of a growing metropolitan city of Lahore. The drawdown of Lahore is absolutely reliant on Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) water supply network that causes numerous problems due to inappropriate management of groundwater capital and increased urbanization. This research investigates groundwater qualities: Alkalinity, Arsenic, Calcium, chloride, Total Hardness, magnesium, Nitrate, pH and Total Dissolved solids using geographic information system (GIS). Residents of high concentrated towns, like Samnabad Town, Allama Iqbal Town, Gulberg, Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, Ravi Town and Wahga town witness cut-down of water supply mainly due to over burden on tube wells. Chemical properties of drinking water show that most of the parameters were within the allowable limits of WHO whereas the pH, and arsenic values are higher than the average. Arsenic is a carcinogenic element which causes cancer and is higher in the drinking water. Finally, this study identifies highly contaminated groundwater zones and makes it convenient to find actual pollutants. Therefore, plans are needed to protect the aquifer.

Soil salinity badly affects agriculture productivity through accumulation of salts in upper layers of soils. The harmful effects of salts in arable lands have influenced modern as well as ancient civilizations. A pot study was carried out to test the performance of two PGPR isolates (KS 8, KS 28) on sunflower (SmH-0917) under different salinity levels (8, 10 and 12 dS·m-1). These salinity levels were developed by adding calculated amount of salts (NaCl, Na2SO4, CaCl2 and mgSO4) with ratio of 3:4:2:1. The bacterial strains KS 8 and KS 28 were applied separately in two treatments while third treatment was co-inoculation (KS mix). Completely randomized experimental design (CRD) was used and data were collected at flowering stage about pre-decided plant growth parameters (plant height, shoot dry weight and root dry weight). The bacterial isolate KS 8 showed an increase of 26, 102% and 83% in plant height, shoot dry weight and root dry weight at EC 8 dS·m-1, while this improvement was 67%, 163% and 296% at EC 10 dS·m-1, however an increase of 100%, 74% and 382% was recorded over control respectively at EC 12 dS·m-1. Similarly isolate KS 28 exhibited an increase of 14%, 69% and 54% in plant height;shoot dry weight and root dry weight at EC 8 dS·m-1, whereas this improvement was 56%, 163% and 188% at EC 10 dS·m-1, while an increase of 60%, 41% and 282% was registered respectively over control at EC 12 dS·m-1. The increase due to mixture treatments was 4%, 41% and 16% in plant height, shoot dry weight and root dry weight at EC 8 dS·m-1, while an increase of 33%, 57% and 100% at EC 10 dS·m-1, whereas an improvement of 53%, 33% and 164% respectively was noted at EC 12 dS·m-1 over un-inoculated. The isolate KS 8 performed better than KS 28 and mixture treatment. These two PGPR strains could be used to mitigate the adverse impact caused by salinity stress on sunflower.

Objective: To evaluate NS1 antigen detection ELISA for the early laboratory diagnosis of dengue virus infection. methods: The present study was conducted to evaluate the overall positivity of NS1 antigen detection ELISA and its comparison with viral RNA detection via real time PCR and Ig m antibodies detection by ELISA. Results: A total of 1 270 serum samples were tested 86%(1 097/1 270) were detected positive by one or more than one diagnostic test. Out of 1 270, 64%(807/1 270) were positive by NS1 ELISA and 52%(662/1 270), 51%(646/1 270) were positive by real-time RT-PCR and Ig m ELISA ***: NS1 antigen detection ELISA is highly suitable diagnostic tools and it also has great value for use in outbreak and epidemic situation.

为了研究压力和风对反映喷洒均匀性的喷头水量分布图的影响,我们用喷嘴直径为4.8mm、喷射仰角为7°的全圆喷洒喷头做了6组试验,每组试验重复三次,每次采集一百多个点的数据。对计算机绘出的三维图形观察研究得出:在小风低工作压力情况下,水量分布图为圆池形;当压力升高时,图形的均匀性向内展延,水量分布图变大,即喷灌面积增大。在大风低工作压力情况下,分布图为缩径圆池形;当压力升高时,分布图形状改变,伸长并在顺风向产生位移,喷灌面积略有改变。在上述风力性能(喷灌面积改变除外)条件下,进一步升高压力,分布图明显改变。对18个水量分布图观察研究得出:在小风情况下,高工作压力(414kPa)的分布图较好;在大风情况下,中压(276kPa)的分布图最好。

探究叶片性状的空间变异性和环境关联性有助于我们理解植物对环境的适应策略和群落建构机制。该研究以浙江天童5 hm2大型动态样地所有胸径≥1 cm的木本植物为对象,测定了20 253株个体的单叶面积、比叶面积和叶片干物质含量,土壤总氮、总磷、总碳、p H值、体积含水率、容重和腐殖质,以及海拔、坡度和凹凸度等;并用地统计学等方法分析了叶片性状的空间变异性及其与环境因子的相关性。结果表明:1)单叶面积的空间变异最大,比叶面积次之,叶片干物质含量最小。三者在0–5.16 m空间范围内表现出较弱的空间自相关,其半变异函数的最优模型分别为高斯模型、指数模型和指数模型。2)叶片性状空间变异具有方向性,单叶面积空间变异在东北-西南方向上最大,在西北-东南方向上最小;比叶面积和叶片干物质含量的空间变异均在西北-东南方向最大,在东北-西南方向最小。3)单叶面积与地形因子显著负相关(r=–0.12,p<0.000 1);比叶面积与土壤养分显著负相关(r=–0.16,p<0.000 1),叶片干物质含量与土壤养分显著正相关(r=0.13,p<0.000 1)。4)东北-西南方向上,地形因子对单叶面积、比叶面积和叶片干物质含量空间变异的影响大于土壤养分;西北-东南方向上,地形因子对单叶面积空间变异的影响相对较大,而土壤养分对比叶面积和叶片干物质含量空间变异的影响较大。总之,在研究样地内,植物叶片性状随空间距离和方向存在很大的变异性,叶片性状与地形因子、土壤养分的关联性间接表明了环境过滤对群落构建的影响。
