Inoculation with Pseudomonas spp. Containing ACC-Deaminase Partially Eliminates the Effects of Drought Stress on Growth,Yield,and Ripening of Pea (Pisum sativum L.)

Two preselected plant growth promoting rhizobacteria(PGPR) containing 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate(ACC) -deaminase(EC 4.***.99.4) were used to investigate their potential to ameliorate the effects of drought stress on growth,yield,and ripening of pea(Pisum sativum L.) . Inoculated and uninoculated(control) seeds of pea cultivar 2000 were sown in pots(four seeds pot-1) and placed in a wire house. The plants were exposed to drought stress at different stages of growth(vegetative,flowering,and pod formation) by skipping the respective irrigation. Results revealed that inoculation of peas with PGPR containing ACC-deaminase significantly decreased the "drought stress imposed effects" on the growth and yield of peas. Exposure of plants to drought stress at vegetative growth stage significantly decreased shoot growth by 41% in the case of uninoculated plants,whereas,by only 18% in the case of inoculated plants compared to nonstressed uninoculated control. Grain yield was decreased when plants were exposed to drought stress at the flowering and pod formation stage,but inoculation resulted in better grain yield(up to 62% and 40% higher,respectively) than the respective uninoculated nonstressed control. Ripening of pods was also delayed in plants inoculated with PGPR,which may imply decreased endogenous ethylene production in inoculated plants. This premise is further supported by the observation that inoculation with PGPR reduced the intensity of classical "triple" response in etiolated pea seedlings,caused by externally applied ACC. It is very probable that the drought stress induced inhibitory effects of ethylene could be partially or completely eliminated by inoculation with PGPR containing ACC-deaminase.

Diffusion of Cu hexamer islands on Cu(111)and Ag(111)is studied using a molecular dynamics simulation technique with many-body potentials obtained from the embedded atom *** are carried out at temperatures 300,500 and 700 K,showing that shape-changing multiple-atom processes are more helpful for the diffusion rather than concerted motion of *** plots of the diffusion coefficients provide effective energy barrier values of 161.29±5 meV for Cu(111)and 179.34±5 meV for Ag(111)*** 700K,one pop-up atom among island atoms is observed with correlative changes in the position and shape of the lower-layer adatoms.

Structural and spectroscopic analysis of wurtzite(ZnO)1-x(Sb2O3)x composite semiconductor

The structural, vibrational and impedance analysis for(Zn O)1 x(Sb2O3)xcomposite synthesized by solid state reaction technique were carried out in the present investigation. X-ray diffraction(XRD) study showed that(Zn O)1 x(Sb2O3)xcomposite has hexagonal(wurtzite) crystal structure. Variation in lattice constants with Sb-doping indicated the proper incorporation of Sb dopant in Zn O host matrix. The results of Raman spectroscopy test suggested the signature of E2(high) and E1(TO) Raman modes, and verified the wurtzite structure of(Zn O)1 x(Sb2O3)x composite. Two additional phonon bands(671, 712) cm 1appeared in Raman spectra of composite samples due to the existence of the lattice defects caused by Sb doping or may be other intrinsic lattice defects formed during the synthesis of(Zn O)1 x(Sb2O3)xcomposite. The frequency dependent on the electrical characteristics, such as, impedance(Z), dielectric constant(ε) and AC conductivity(σ) have been studied in a range of frequencies for different Sb concentration at room temperature. The electrical measurement results showed that the impedance increased with Sb dopant concentration, while dielectric constant and AC conductivity decreased with Sb dopant concentration.

Nonplanar Ion-Acoustic Solitons in Electron-Positron-Ion Quantum Plasmas

The propagation of nonplanar quantum ion-acoustic solitary waves in a dense, unmagnetized electron-positronion （e-p-i） plasma are studied by using the Korteweg-de Vries （KdV） model. The quantum hydrodynamic （QHD） equations are used taking into account the quantum diffraction and quantum statistics corrections. The analytical and numerical solutions of KdV equation reveal that the nonplanar ion-acoustic solitons arc modified significantly with quantum corrections and positron concentration, and behave differently in different geometries.

Non-Intrusive monitoring of Everyday Behavioral Activities in an Indoor Environment

A non-intrusive design for monitoring everyday activities of an elderly person is presented. The proposed system is intended to be used in the bedroom, allowing the elders to stay at home in a safe environment. The required hardware design is simple in structure and cost effective. The sensor design is implemented by using capacitive sensors and an Arduino microcontroller unit. And a real time graphical user interface is implemented to monitor the elderly person. The performance analysis shows that the sensor design is able to differentiate between a human body and a house pet.

Oviposition preference of swallowtail butterfly, Papilio polytes （Lepidoptera Papilionidae） on four Rutaceae （Sapindales） host plant species

Oviposition preference and egg deposition site selection by the butterfly, Papilio polytes L. （Lepidoptera： Papilionidae） on four rutaceous host plants, Citrus aurantofolia （Christm.） Swing., Citrus hystrix DC., Citrus reticulata Blanco, and murraya koenigii （L.） Sprengel, were assessed in field cages measuring 2 × 2 ×2 m. Simultaneous two-choice and four-choice oviposition tests of whole host plants were conducted. The mean total number of eggs laid per plant on C. reticulata in the two-choice test was significantly higher （P 〈 0.01） than those on C. aurantifolia, C. hystrix, andm. koenigii. Among the three other host plants, C. aurantifolia was preferred over C. hystrix, and m. koenigii （P 〈 0.01） and C. hystrix was preferred over m. koenigii （P 〈 0.01）. In the four-choice test, C. reticulata was highly preferred and significantly different from C. hystrix and m. koenigii. However, no oviposition preference was detected with C. aurantifolia. Among the various plant parts in the two- and four-choice tests, eggs on leaves of each plant were the highest, followed by numbers on stems, and negligible numbers on pots. These numbers on leaves of C. reticulata and C. aurantifolia were not significantly different （P 〉 0.05）, but differed significantly （P 〈 0.01） from those on leaves of C. hystrix and m. koenigii. The quantitative trend of egg-laying on stems was very similar to that observed for the leaves. Papilio polytes showed strong preference to lay eggs on the underside of leaves of all host plants than on the upper side or on the petiole. more eggs were laid on the upper side of each host plant than on its petiole. The four host plants in descending order of preference were C. reticulata 〉 C. aurantifolia 〉 C. hystrix 〉 m. koenigii. Although m. koenigii was the least preferred, it has the potential to serve as an alternative host plant for P. polytes which can be manipulated when necessary, to alleviate the infestation of this pest to the citrus industry.

Novel traveling wave solutions and stability analysis of perturbed Kaup-Newell Schrodinger dynamical model and its applications

We study the traveling wave and other solutions of the perturbed Kaup-Newell Schrodinger dynamical equation that signifies long waves parallel to the magnetic *** wave solutions such as bright-dark(solitons),solitary waves,periodic and other wave solutions of the perturbed Kaup-Newell Schrodinger equation in mathematical physics are achieved by utilizing two mathematical techniques,namely,the extended F-expansion technique and the proposed exp(-φ(ξ))-expansion *** dynamical model describes propagation of pluses in optical fibers and can be observed as a special case of the generalized higher order nonlinear Schrodinger *** engineering and applied physics,these wave results have key ***,the structures of some solutions are presented by giving specific values to *** using modulation instability analysis,the stability of the model is tested,which shows that the model is stable and the solutions are *** techniques can be fruitfully employed to further sculpt models that arise in mathematical physics.

Crustal attenuation characteristics of S-waves beneath the Eastern Tohoku region,Japan

An inversion method was applied to crustal earthquakes dataset to find S-wave attenuation characteristics beneath the Eastern Tohoku region of Japan. Accelerograms from 85 shallow crustal earthquakes up to 25 km depth and magnitude range between 3.5 and 5.5 were analyzed to estimate the seismic quality factor Qs. A homogeneous attenuation model Qs for the wave propagation path was evaluated from spectral amplitudes, at 24 different frequencies between 0.5 and 20 Hz by using generalized inversion technique. To do this, non-parametric attenuation functions were calculated to observe spectral amplitude decay with hypocentral distance. Then, these functions were parameterized to estimate Qs. It was found that in Eastern Tohoku region, the Qs frequency dependence can be approximated with the function 33 f 1.22 within a frequency range between 0.5 and 20 Hz. However, the frequency dependence of Qs in the frequency range between 0.5 and 6 Hz is best approximated by Qs （f） = 36 f 0.94 showing relatively weaker frequency dependence as compared to the relation Qs （f） = 6 f^ 2.09 for the frequency range between 6 and 15 Hz. These results could be used to estimate source and site parameters for seismic hazard assessment in the region.

Heterogeneous Expansion of End-moraine Dammed Lakes in the Hindukush-Karakoram-Himalaya Ranges of Pakistan during 2001-2013

Global climate change during the twentieth century had a significant impact on the glaciers that resulted in creation of new lakes and expansion of existing ones, and ultimately an increase in the number of glacial lake outburst floods(GLOFs) in the Himalayan region. This study reports variation of the end-moraine dammed lakes in the high altitude Hindukush-Karakoram-Himalaya(HKH) region of Pakistan to evaluate future floods hazard under changing climate in this region. An integrated temporal remote sensing and Geographic information system(GIS) based approach using satellite images of Landsat-7 and 8 was adopted to detect 482 endmoraine dammed lakes out of which 339 lakes(>0.02 km2) were selected for temporal change analysis during the 2001-2013 period. The findings of the study revealed a net expansion in the end-moraine dammed lakes area in the Karakoram(about 7.7%) and in the Himalayas(4.6%), while there was a net shrinkage of about 1.5% in the lakes area in the Hindukush range during this period. The percentage increase in the lakes' area was highest above 4500 m asl in the Hindukush, within 3500-4000 m asl in the Himalayas and below 3500 m asl in the Karakoram range. The overall positive change in the lakes' area appears to prevail in various altitudinal ranges of the region. The heterogeneous areal changes in the endmoraine dammed lakes might be attributed to different climate regimes and glacial hydrodynamics in the three HKH ranges. A periodic monitoring of the glacial lakes and their associated glaciers is essential for developing effective hazard assessment and risk reduction strategies for this high altitude Himalayan region.
