BACKGROUND With an ongoing demand for transplantable organs,optimization of donor management protocols,specifically in trauma populations,is important for obta-ining a high yield of viable organs per *** management of brain-dead potential organ donors(BPODs)is controversial,leading to heterogeneous clinical management *** studies have shown that when levo-thyroxine was combined with other treatments,including steroids,vasopressin,and insulin,BPODs had better organ recovery and survival outcomes were increased for transplant *** To determine if levothyroxine use in combination with steroids in BPODs increased the number of organs donated in trauma *** A retrospective review of adult BPODs from a single level 1 trauma center over ten years was *** criteria included patients who were not solid organ donors,patients who were not declared brain dead(donation after circulatory death),and patients who did not receive steroids in their hospital *** and steroid administration,the number of organs donated,the types of organs donated,and demographic information were *** analyses were performed with Pmet inclusion criteria,69(78%)of whom received levothyroxine and steroids(ST/LT group)vs 19(22%)receiving steroids without levothyroxine(ST group).No differences were observed between the groups for gender,race,pertinent injury factors,age,or other hormone therapies used(P>0.05).In the ST/LT group,68.1%(n=47)donated a high yield(3-5)of organ types per donor compared to 42.1%(n=8)in the ST group(P=0.038).There was no difference in the total number of organ types donated between the groups(P=0.068).CONCLUSION This study suggests that combining levothyroxine and steroid administration increases high-yield organ donation per donor in BPODs in the trauma patient *** to this study include

To determine if reduced tree densities(number of trees per unit area) lead to changes in micro-meteorological and tree physiological characteristics, two areas with different tree densities were assessed. One was an agrosilvopastoral system(AGP) with low tree density, and the other, a secondary forest(SF) with greater tree numbers, both located in a semiarid region of Brazil. Data were collected simultaneously by two automated weather stations: rainfall, air(T_a) and soil temperatures(T_(s5 cm)), relative humidity(RHair), photosynthetically active radiation(PAR), soil moisture at two depths(m_(s30 cm)and m_(s50 cm)),and wind velocity(Vw). Net photosynthesis in Cordia oncocalyx Allema?o trees was measured with an infrared gas analyzer in February, march, may, July, August and September 2011, which encompasses a rainy period followed by a dry period. Average values of Ta, T_(s5 cm), Vwand PAR were greater and average values of RHairand m_(s50 cm) were lesser in the AGP. Photosynthetic rates were greater in plants growing under the AGP at the onset of the dry season when Vw, PAR and T_(s5 cm)were greater and m_(s50 cm) was lesser. Photosynthetic rates correlated strongly with physical parameters during the dry season, especially under SF. Differences in tree numbers between AGP and SF led to differences in physical environmental parameters;however, the latter had less influence on photosynthetic rates in C. oncocalyx during the rainy season. During the dry season, all physical parameters had an impact on net photosynthesis under SF but not under AGP. This indicates a certain independence of plants in AGP.

Agave salmiana ash and poultry eggshell powder as CaO sources were used for obtaining nanostructured hydro-xyapatite(HAP).The synthesis was carried out by the Green Chemistry Hydrothermal Biosynthesis at 180℃ with a pH of 5,by reacting CaO from Agave Salmiana ash and Eggshell powder,with dibasic caldium phosphate(CaH-PO_(4)+2H_(2)O)in an aqueous solution,with Aloe barbadensis *** product was characterized by X-ray dif-fraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),Scanning Electron microscopy(SEm),and Transmission Electron microscopy(TEm).The size and shape of the hydroxyapatite particles changed dramati-cally in the presence of Aloe *** crystals of Hydroxyapatite were observed when Eggshell powder and Agave salmiana ash were used as raw materials in the presence of the Aloe barbadensis *** with shapes of ribbons and plates from 1 micrometers to 8 micrometers were observed when using the eggshell powder in the presence of Aloe bar badensis and,in the case of Agave salmiana ash in the presence of Aloe bar-badensis,crystals with shapes of quadra ngular prisms and hexagonal(polyhedra)with sizes from 2 micrometers to 20 micrometers were *** was therefore successfully biosynthesized by a green and sus-tainable method that reduces the environmental impact.

Few studies have been conducted on success stories of JBLFmU-Arevalo alumni. Thus, this study aimed to determine the success story of Capt. Angelex Arevalo Panes, an alumnus of the then, John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation （Arevalo）, Inc. of Batch 1995 now, John B. Lacson Foundation maritime University-Arevalo. The story of Capt. Panes tells his family and educational background, career paths, driving force to work efficiently, hardwork, coping strategies, job encounters, edged as first Filipino captain of m/V SKS Tiete, skills as effective team leader, managerial techniques in resolving conflicts under watch, problems and solutions encountered on board, preparations for his sunset life, and his message to all aspiring seafarers. This paper gives glimpse to the life of Philippine＇s modem hero-a seafarer like Capt. Angelex A. Panes and lessons to those who would become seafarers.

At the beginning of 2020, human activities were interrupted by a new virus, identified as SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19 disease. The scientific area was no exception: for a certain period, researchers around the world were forced to leave their laboratories and work remotely. There was a global necessity for finding alternatives focused on generating knowledge and publishing data, so repositories of scientific information, such as databases, represented strong support. In the specific case of life sciences, different strategies allowed rapid compilation of data and its sharing worldwide. Therefore, in this work, the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on the amount of peer-reviewed and published papers during COVID-19 times was analyzed along with the role of databases. Our results pointed out that an increase in the number of papers belonging to different knowledge fields took place, with the medical field being the most significant. On the other hand, the complete genome of the new virus was sequenced, and repositories were created with sufficient data for monitoring, preventing, and controlling its dissemination. This was the case for the generation of vaccines in addition to potential candidates for drugs against COVID-19. However, although in 2021, vaccines allowed us to gradually return to our activities, databases and the generation of other repositories remain a key point for facing new strains and adapting to a new reality. Finally, this paper discusses joint efforts to tackle the obstacles of the pandemic, not only from a medical but also from the point of view regarding the fight against misinformation.

In the present paper the main results of the pre-operational studies related to the energization maneuver of a Half-Wavelength Transmission Line (AC-Link), are presented. The simulations were performed in PSCAD with actual Brazilian system data. Specifically the following studies were performed: electromagnetic transient studies of energization maneuver considering no fault and the occurrence of fault along the trunk;dynamic analysis of generator units that will energize the AC-Link;TRV on the circuit-breaker that will energize the trunk. The main conclusion is that the AC-Link energization experiment can be implemented without jeopardizing or causing time-life reduction of the equipment involved in the experiment, which comprises the generator unit that will energize the trunk, the step-up transformer, the arresters that will be kept during the experiments, as well as the circuit-breaker that will energize and then trip the AC-Link.

The analytical approach and the thermomechanical behavior of a Cr-Ni-mo-mn-N austenitic stainless steel were characterized based on the parameters of work hardening (h), dynamic recovery (r) and dynamic recrystallization (n, t0.5), considering constitutive equations (σ, ε) and deformation conditions expressed according to the Zener-Hollomon parameter (Z). The results indicated that the curves were affected by the deformation conditions and that the stress levels increased with Z under high work hardening rates. The σc/σp ratio was relatively high in the first part of the curves, indicating that softening was promoted by intense dynamic recovery (DRV). This was corroborated by the high values of r and average stacking fault energy, γsfe = 66.86 mJ/m2, which facilitated the thermally activated mechanisms, increasing the effectiveness of DRV and delaying the onset of dynamic recrystallization (DRX). The second part of the curves indicates that there was a delay in the kinetics of dynamic softening, with a higher value of t0.5 and lower values of the Avrami exponent (n) due to the competing DRV-DRX mechanisms, and steady state stress (σss) was achieved under higher rates of deformation.
