Background: Dry eye and glaucoma are two common pathologies in the elderly, and are very often associated. This association suggests a link between them and between their treatments. Our purpose for this study is to determine the prevalence of dry eye in our glaucoma patients treated with eye drops and deduce the factors associated with it. Patients and methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, analytical study from October 2022 to September 2023 in the ophthalmology department of Garoua Regional Hospital in glaucoma patients aged over 15 years able to answer the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaires and treated with antiglaucoma eye drops for more than 3 months. These patients underwent a complete ophthalmological examination and a tear film break-up time test. Results: A total of 73 patients (146 eyes) were examined. The average age of the patients was 47.2 ± 16.5 years, with a male predominance of 54.8%. The prevalence of dry eye syndrome in our patients according to the OSDI score was 56.2% (95% CI) (44.8;67.6). The prevalence of dry eye syndrome on clinical examination of the BUT in the right eye was 83.7% (95% CI) (75.1;92.1) and 79.4% (70.2;88.7) in the left eye. The duration of antiglaucoma treatment was the factor associated with dry eye syndrome (p ma patients in our setting. Conclusion: Dry Eye Syndrome is common in glaucoma patients on drops in our setting. Treatment duration of more than 1 year seems to be associated with dry eyes.

Plasma and platelet serotonin levels in patients with liver cirrhosis

AIm: To analyze the relationship between plasma and platelet serotonin levels and the degree of liver insufficiency. mETHODS: The prospective study included 30 patients with liver cirrhosis and 30 healthy controls. The degree of liver failure was assessed according to the Child-Pugh classification. Platelet and platelet poor plasma serotonin levels were determined. RESULTS: The mean plasma serotonin level was higher in liver cirrhosis patients than in healthy subjects (215.0 ± 26.1 vs 63.1 ± 18.1 nmol/L; P mean platelet serotonin content was not significantly different in patients with liver cirrhosis compared with healthy individuals (4.8 ± 0.6; 4.2 ± 0.3 nmol/platelet; P > 0.05). Plasma serotonin levels were significantly higher in Child- Pugh grade A/B than in grade C patients (246.8 ± 35.0 vs 132.3 ± 30.7 nmol/L; P mol/platelet; P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Plasma serotonin levels are significantly higher in patients with cirrhosis than in the controls and represent the degree of liver insufficiency. In addition, platelet poor plasma serotonin estimation is a better marker for liver insufficiency than platelet serotonin content.

The first-principles study of the structural, elastic and electronic properties of the m2XC phases depending on the type of m transition metal （m are Ti and Cr） and on X （X are Ga and A1） was reported. The calculations are performed using the pseudo-potential plane-wave approach in both the local density and generalized gradient approximations. The elastic constants are calculated using the static finite strain technique. Features such as structural and elastic parameters, Debye tem- perature, sound velocities and their pressure dependence have been investigated. In agreement with experimental and previous theoretical findings, it is found that the compressibility along a and c axis depends on the valence electron concentration （VEC）. Correlations revealing the governing role of the X and m elements on the machinability indices of the material have been examined. The electronic properties have been discussed in terms of chemical bonding showing that bonding is due to md-Cp and md-Xp hybridizations. m-C bonds are stiffer than m-X ones and A1-Ti （Cr-C） bonds are stiffer than those corresponding to Ti-C （A1-Cr）. It is shown that the stiffness of the m-X and m-C bonds increases with increasing the number of VEC.

The problem of water depollution is gaining importance, especially as regulatory standards concerning drinking water are increasingly strict. The different industries (textile industries) generate chemically stable pollutants such as methyl orange which make their degradation difficult. It is therefore necessary to find new, more effective techniques for the treatment of these discharges. Among the different solutions proposed to deal with this problem, we find advanced oxidation processes (POAs) which are clean and promising technologies in the field of wastewater depollution. In this regard, heterogeneous photocatalysis was used in an aqueous suspension of titanium oxide (TiO2) using a ultraviolet (UV) lamp as artificial radiation. The objective of this work is to study the influence of some operating parameters such as: the catalyst mass, the initial pollutant concentration, the volume of the solution and the pH of the solution, were examined. The results obtained showed that this photocatalyst made it possible to degrade 99.85% of the initial concentration of methyl orange (10 ppm), after 240 min of irradiation with an optimal mass of 0.50 g of TiO2 for a volume of 200 mL of methyl orange solution at pH = 3.0.

The influence of flux cored arc welding （FCAW） process parameters such as welding current, travel speed, voltage and CO2 shielding gas flow rate on bowing distortion of 409m ferritic stainless steel sheets of 2 mm in thickness was discussed. The bowing distortions of the welded plates were measured using a simple device called profile tracer. An experimental regression equation was developed to predict the bowing distortion and with this equation, it is easy to select optimized process parameters to achieve minimum bowing distortion. It is revealed that the FCAW process parameters have significant influence on bead profile and the bowing distortion.

In this work,the microstructure of titania coating fabricated on the surface of hydrostatically extruded titanium grade 4 with the use of the micro-arc oxidation method was *** surface topography and microstructure investigations performed with atomic force microscopy and scanning and transmission electron microscopy revealed that,by using an Na_(2)HPO_(4)electrolyte,a well-adherent porous coating is produced on the top surface and side walls of the extruded *** distribution of chemical elements was analyzed by using energy dispersive X-ray *** chemical elements dissolved in the electrolyte(Na,P and O)incorporated into the *** locates preferentially in the outer part of the coating,while phosphorus and oxygen are distributed throughout the whole *** most relevant finding shows that a grain refinement caused by a hydrostatic extrusion provoked an increase in density of high-angle grain boundaries(HAGB),which in turn secured the formation of a continuous amorphous layer close to the *** presence of this layer compensates for the effect of anisotropic substrate,producing a comparable and homogenous microstructure with a large number of micropores.

Objective:To investigate the anti-senescence effect of 3-bromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde(BDB)from Polysiphonia morrowii Harvey in human dermal fibroblasts(HDF).methods:HDF were subjected to treatment of BDB and then treated with hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)to induce premature ***-associatedβ-galactosidase(SA-β-gal)activity in HDF was determined using the SA-β-gal staining *** reactive oxygen species(ROS)production was measured using the 2’,7’-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate *** blotting assay was performed to assess the level of antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase 1(GPX1).In addition,intracellular collagen and collagenase contents were analyzed using the respective ELISA *** activity in HDF supernatants was measured from p-nitroaniline release and normalized using total protein ***:Treatment of HDF with H2O2 increased the activity of SA-β-gal,but BDB pre-treatment resulted in the reduction of SA-β-gal ***,BDB significantly reduced H2O2-induced intracellular ROS *** also markedly increased the level of GPX1,which was inhibited by 400μm of ***,in in vitro study,BDB significantly increased intracellular collagen content and decreased matrix metalloproteinase-1 and elastase activities in ***:Our results demonstrate that BDB shows antisenescence and anti-wrinkle activities in vitro.
