Haplotype Diversity at Sub1 Locus and Allelic Distribution Among Rice Varieties of Tide and Flood Prone Areas of South-East Asia

Single nucleotide polymorphisms and restriction digestion-based haplotype variations among 160 flood prone rice varieties were analyzed with enzymes Alu I and Cac8 I to generate polymorphisms at Sub1A and Sub1C loci （conferring submergence tolerance）, respectively. Haplotype associated with phenotype was used to study the haplotype variations at Sub1A and Sub1C loci and to determine their functional influence on submergence tolerance and stem elongation. Three patterns at Sub1A locus, Sub1A0 （null allele）, Sub1A1 （does not cut） and Sub1A2 （one SNP）, and four patterns at Sub1C locus, Sub1C1, Sub1C2, Sub1C3 and Sub1C4, were generated. Both tolerant Sub1A1 and intolerant Sub1A2 had the same length, but the difference was presence of a restriction site in the Sub1A2, but absent at the Sub1A1. Further, two types of polymorphism were detected at the Sub1C, one included major length polymorphisms （165, 170 and 175 bp） and the other was a single restriction site at different position. Eight haplotypes （different combinations of the two loci）, A1C1, A1C2, A1C4, A2C2, A2C4, A0C2, A0C3 and A0C4, were detected among 160 varieties. Haplotype A1C1 was comparatively more related to haplotypes A1C2 and A1C4, having the same Sub1A allele, and these haplotypes were found only in Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan and Indian varieties. most tolerant varieties in A1C1 haplotype showed slow elongation, having tolerant specific Sub1A1 and Sub1C1 alleles. Further, the varieties madabaru and Kottamali （A2C2） also showed moderate level of tolerance without Sub1A1 allele. These varieties were different with FR13A and also suspected to carry different novel tolerant genes at other loci. These materials could be used for hybridization with Sub1 varieties for pyramiding additional tolerant specific alleles into a single genotype for improving submergence tolerance in rice.

Conventional power generation mainly depends on natural gas and diesel oil in Brunei *** power utility company is now thinking of power generation using natural *** this paper,wind energy,being one of the most readily available renewable energy sources,was *** wind characteristic,velocity and directions were studied using Weibull distribution based on the measurement of wind speed at two different locations in Brunei *** wind speed distributions were modeled using the Wind Power *** wind rose graph was obtained for the wind direction to analyze the wind power density onshore and *** on this analysis,it has been found that the wind speed of 3 to 5m/s has a probability of occurrence of 40%.Besides,the annual energy production at a wind speed of 5m/s has been found to be in the range between 1000 and 1500 kWh for both the locations in Brunei Darussalam.

Simulation of buoyancy-induced turbulent flow from a hot horizontal jet

Experimental visualizations and numerical simulations of a horizontal hot water jet entering cold water into a rectangular storage tank are described. Three different temperature differences and their corresponding Reynolds numbers are considered. Both experimental visualization and numerical computations are carried out for the same flow and thermal conditions. The realizable k-e model is used for modeling the turbulent flow while the buoyancy is modeled using the Boussinesq approximation. Polynomial approximations of the water properties are used to compare with the Boussinesq approximation. Numerical solutions are obtained for unsteady flow while pressure, velocity, temperature and turbulence distributions inside the water tank as well as the Froude number are analyzed. The experimental visualizations are performed at intervals of five seconds for all different cases. The simulated results are compared with the visualized results, and both of them show the stratification phenomena and buoyancy force effects due to temperature difference and density variation. After certain times, depending on the case condition, the flow tends to reach a steady state.

Proton conductivity performance and its correlation with physiochemical properties of proton exchange membrane(PEm)

Graphene oxide(GO)filler containing diversified Nafion-based proton exchange membrane(PEm)is studied to know the unique physical and chemical properties and performances of ***-SPEEK 1%-GO 0.75%(NSG-0.75%)composite shows the highest proton conductivity of 0.327 S·cm^(-1) at 90℃ and 100%RH(relative humidity)among all the PEm *** descending order of significant proton conductivity is found as;Nafion-sPGO(1%)0.306 S·cm^(-1)>Nafion/ZIF-8@GO 0.280 S·cm^(-1)>Nafion/PGO(2%)0.277 S·cm^(-1)>Nafion/GO-sulfur(3%)0.232 S·cm^(-1)>Nafion/GO-poly-SPm-co-PEGmEmA(1%)0.229 S·cm^(-1)>Nafion/Ce-sPGO(1%)0.215 S·cm^(-1).The proton conductivity,water uptake capacity and ion exchange capacity,hydration number,thermal and oxidative stability,mechanical integrity(tensile strength),maximum power,and current density are found to be increased while activation energy and fuel crossover show a decrement as GO or modified GO is incorporated in the Nafion *** component analysis(PCA)predicted a significant correlation between the proton conductivity and the properties;the water uptake capacity,ion exchange capacity,hydration number,maximum power density,and maximum current density are 0.598%,0.688%,0.894%,0.980%,and 0.852%accordingly.A multiple linear model equation of proton conductivity is defined with the parameters of water uptake capacity,ion exchange capacity,hydration number,maximum power density,and maximum current density whereas the regression coefficient is 0.9923.

Spectral collocation method for solving continuous population models for single and interacting species by means of exponential Chebyshev approximation

In this paper, an efficient and accurate method is presented to solve continuous population models for single and interacting species using spectral collocation method with exponential Chebyshev (EC) functions. The first problem is a logistic growth model in a population, while the second problem is a prey-predator model: Lotka-Volterra system, the tbird is a simple 2-species Lotka-Volterra competition model, and the final one is a prey-predator model with limit cycle periodic behavior. The high accuracy of this method is verified through some numerical examples. The obtained numerical results are compared with other methods, showing that the proposed method gives higher accuracy.

Gastric acid inhibitory and gastric protective effects of cannabis and cannabinoids

Cannabis sativa has long been known for its psychotropic effect. Only recently with the discovery of the cannabinoid receptors, their endogenous legends and the enzymes responsible for their synthesis and degradation, the role of this ‘endocannabinoid system’ in different pathophysiologic processes is beginning to be delineated. There is evidence that CB1 receptor stimulation with synthetic cannabinoids or Cannabis sativa extracts rich in ?9-tetrahydrocannabinol inhibit gastric acid secretion in humans and in experimental animals. This is specially seen when gastric acid secretion is stimulated by pentagastrin, carbachol or 2 deoxy-D-glucose. Cannabis and/or cannabinoids protect the gastric mucosa against noxious challenge with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, ethanol as well as against stress induced mucosal damage. Cannabis/cannabinoids might protect the gastric mucosa by virtue of its antisecretory, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and vasodilator properties.

This study introduces the Orbit Weighting Scheme(OWS),a novel approach aimed at enhancing the precision and efficiency of Vector Space information retrieval(IR)models,which have traditionally relied on weighting schemes like tf-idf and *** conventional methods often struggle with accurately capturing document relevance,leading to inefficiencies in both retrieval performance and index size *** proposes a dynamic weighting mechanism that evaluates the significance of terms based on their orbital position within the vector space,emphasizing term relationships and distribution patterns overlooked by existing *** research focuses on evaluating OWS’s impact on model accuracy using Information Retrieval metrics like Recall,Precision,InterpolatedAverage Precision(IAP),andmeanAverage Precision(mAP).Additionally,we assessOWS’s effectiveness in reducing the inverted index size,crucial for model *** compare OWS-based retrieval models against others using different schemes,including tf-idf variations and *** reveal OWS’s superiority,achieving a 54%Recall and 81%mAP,and a notable 38%reduction in the inverted index *** highlights OWS’s potential in optimizing retrieval processes and underscores the need for further research in this underrepresented area to fully leverage OWS’s capabilities in information retrieval methodologies.

Quasi-Periodic Structures Based on Symmetrical Lucas Function of (2+1)-Dimensional modified Dispersive Water-Wave System

By introducing the Lucas-Riccati method and a linear variable separation method, new variable separation solutions with arbitrary functions are derived for a （2＋1）-dimensional modified dispersive water-wave system. The main idea of this method is to express the solutions of this system as polynomials in the solution of the Riecati equation that the symmetrical Lucas functions satisfy. From the variable separation sohition and by selecting appropriate functions, some novel Jacobian elliptic wave structure with variable modulus and their interactions with dromions and peakons are investigated.

Conceptual design,modeling and compliance characterization of a novel 2-DOF rotational pointing mechanism for fast steering mirror

In this paper,a novel 2-DOF rotational pointing mechanism(RPm)is designed inspired by the guidelines of the graphical *** mechanism integrates with a fast steering mirror(FSm)for compensating pointing errors of a laser *** design intends to achieve an angular travel of±10 mrad and steers a 25 mm mirror aperture.A planar flexure with beam flexures accompanied in parallel with an axial flexure build-up mechanism *** mechanismbased RPm ensures high precision and *** characteristics are established based on the stiffness matrix method for four different planar flexure *** layout with best in-plane rotational compliance is then assessed for performance sensitivity to mechanism dimension parameters and parasitic error,thus informing the design *** stiffness in both the inplane rotational axes and stress is determined based on finite element analysis(FEA).The wire electrical discharge machining(EDm)is employed for developing the proof of concept for the RPm and is then assembled in *** are conducted to determine the rotational stiffness and angular travel about both in-plane rotational *** among theoretical,numerical and experiments reveal excellent linearity of rotational stiffness along the rotational travel *** maximum theoretical error is less than 5.5%compared with FEA while,the experimental error has a mean of 5%and 3%for both rotational axes thus satisfying the intended design requirement.

Nonlinear forced vibration in a subcritical regime of a porous functionally graded pipe conveying fluid with a retaining clip

This study examines the nonlinear behaviors of a clamped-clamped porous pipe made of a functionally graded material(FGm) that conveys fluids and is equipped with a retaining clip, focusing on primary resonance and subcritical dynamics. The nonlinear governing equations for the FGm pipe are derived by the extended Hamilton's principle, and subsequently discretized through the application of the Galerkin *** direct method of multi-scales is then used to solve the derived equations. A thorough analysis of various parameters, including the clip stiffness, the power-law index, the porosity, and the clip location, is conducted to gain a comprehensive understanding of the system's nonlinear dynamics. Through the analysis of the first natural frequency, the study highlights the influence of the flow velocity and the clip stiffness, while the comparisons with metallic pipes emphasize the role of FGm composition. The examination of the forced response curves reveals saddle-node bifurcations and their dependence on parameters such as the detuning parameter and the power-law index, offering valuable insights into the system's nonlinear resonant behavior. Furthermore, the frequency-response curves illustrate the hardening nonlinearities influenced by factors such as the porosity and the clip stiffness, revealing nuanced effects on the system response and resonance characteristics. This comprehensive analysis enhances the understanding of nonlinear behaviors in FGm porous pipes with a retaining clip, providing key insights for practical engineering applications in system design and optimization.
