Comparison of bone alignment and fiducial marker alignment for online cone-beam computed tomography-guided radiation therapy for prostate cancer

Objective The aim of the study was to evaluate the coverage of the prostate when prostatic implanted fiducial markers are used to verify setup of the patients in comparison to the pelvic bones while using conebeam computed tomography(CBCT). methods Seventeen patients with prostate cancer were included. For each patient, daily online CBCT was done. CT planning was matched with CBCT with the help of fiducial markers(3–5 markers) and another matching with done the help of pelvic bony landmarks. Registration of clinical target volume(CTV) 1 including prostate plus seminal vesicles and CTV2 including prostate only was done and were used to confirm the target volume during the process of matching. Delineation of the rectum on every CBCT was done. Two automatic margin representing planning target volume(PTV) were created. PTV1 was generated by adding 1 cm in all directions(PTV1a) and 0.7 cm in the posterior direction(PTV1b). PTV2 was generated by adding 0.5 cm in all directions(PTV2a) and 0.3 cm in the posterior direction(PTV2b). PTV1a was prescribed to receive 46 Gy in conventional fractionation with a boost dose of 30 Gy to PTV1b. The same dose was prescribed to PTV2a and PTV2b. Calculation of the percentage of intersection between CTV1and CTV2 created on CBCT with the original CTV scan was done. A comparison between the two CTVs(CTV1and CTV2) mean dose and the original delineated CTV was done. Then a comparison to the mean dose of the original CTV of PTV1a, PTV2a(CTV1a and CTV2a), and for PTV1b and PTV2b(CTV1b and CTV2b). Calculation of the mean rectal dose and also V60, V70 and V74 was done on the delineated rectum on every CBCT, and then a comparison to the planned original rectal dose. Results The created CTV1and CTV2 intersection percentage with the original CTV1and CTV2 significantly increased by 85%(range, 65%–95%, P markers were used. The main difference of the received mean dose was significantly less in comparison to pelvic bone alignment

One of the most complex tasks for computer-aided diagnosis(Intelligent decision support system)is the segmentation of ***,this study proposes a new fully automated method for the segmentation of ovarian and breast ultrasound *** main contributions of this research is the development of a novel Viola–James model capable of segmenting the ultrasound images of breast and ovarian cancer *** addition,proposed an approach that can efficiently generate region-of-interest(ROI)and new features that can be used in characterizing lesion *** study uses two databases in training and testing the proposed segmentation *** breast cancer database contains 250 images,while that of the ovarian tumor has 100 images obtained from several hospitals in *** of the experiments showed that the proposed approach demonstrates better performance compared with those of other segmentation methods used for segmenting breast and ovarian ultrasound *** segmentation result of the proposed system compared with the other existing techniques in the breast cancer data set was 78.8%.By contrast,the segmentation result of the proposed system in the ovarian tumor data set was 79.2%.In the classification results,we achieved 95.43%accuracy,92.20%sensitivity,and 97.5%specificity when we used the breast cancer data *** the ovarian tumor data set,we achieved 94.84%accuracy,96.96%sensitivity,and 90.32%specificity.

Drought stress linked with climate change is one of the major constraints faced by common bean farmers in Africa and elsewhere. mitigating this constraint requires the selection of resilient varieties that withstand drought threats to common bean *** study assessed the drought response of 64 small red-seeded genotypes of common bean grown in a lattice design replicated twice under contrasting moisture regimes,terminal drought stress and non-stress, in Ethiopia during the dry season from November2014 to march 2015. multiple plant traits associated with drought were assessed for their contribution to drought adaptation of the genotypes. Drought stress determined by a drought intensity index was moderate(0.3). All the assessed traits showed significantly different genotypic responses under drought stress and non-stress conditions. Eleven genotypes significantly(P ≤ 0.05) outperformed the drought check cultivar under both drought stress and non-stress conditions in seed yielding potential. Seed yield showed positive and significant correlations with chlorophyll meter reading, vertical root pulling resistance force, number of pods per plant, and seeds per pod under both soil moisture regimes, indicating their potential use in selection of genotypes yielding well under drought stress and non-stress conditions. Clustering analysis using mahalanobis distance grouped the genotypes into four groups showing high and significant inter-cluster distance, suggesting that hybridization between drought-adapted parents from the groups will provide the maximum genetic recombination for drought tolerance in subsequent generations.

Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the second most common cause of cancer-related death in western countries. Approximately one-quarter of newly diagnosed patients for CRC have metastases, and a further 40%-50% experience disease recurrence or develop metastases after all standard therapies. Therefore, understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in the progression of CRC and subsequently developing novel therapeutic targets is crucial to improve management of CRC and patients' long-term survival. Several tyrosine kinase receptors have been implicated in CRC development, progression and metastasis, including epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) and vascular EGFR. Recently, tropomyosin-related kinase B(Trk B), a tyrosine kinase receptor, has been reported in CRC and found to clearly exert several biological and clinical features, such as tumor cell growth and survival in vitro and in vivo, metastasis formation and poor prognosis. Here we review the significance of Trk B and its ligand brain derived-neurotrophic factor in CRC. We focus on their expression in CRC tumor samples, and their functional roles in CRC cell lines and in in vivo models. Finally we discuss therapeutic approaches that can lead to the development of novel therapeutic agents for treating Trk B-expressing CRC tumors.

Solar energy applications could be the best alternative to the conventional fuels for the purposes of domestic,water and space heating and some industries in the sunny,arid,and hot *** the present study,the performance of an evacuated tube solar heater for water heating for months of February and march was experimentally *** was performed in a hot and arid area(Nasiriya City,South of Iraq).A solar heater with ten evacuated tube solar collectors with a capacity of 100 liter was used in the *** evacuated tube had a length of 1.8m with an outside diameter of 8 *** was observed that for the two selected months,water temperature of the solar heater reached a maximum more than 70°C during sunny days with no heat extraction from the tank of the solar ***,heat was extracted from the solar collector with four different flowrates 0.5,0.75,1,and 1.25 l/min,*** results showed that temperature of the solar heater behaved differently from the static *** the heat extraction begun,there was a gradual and noticeable decrease in the water temperature of the *** observed decrease was slight with the lowest flowrate(0.25 l/m)and becomes sharp with the highest flowrate(1.25 l/min).However,water temperature of the solar heater remained higher than 40°C for the investigated flowrates except the case of 1.25 l/*** results showed that evacuated tube solar heater can work efficiently in arid and hot areas in winter and spring seasons when the conditions of solar radiation are suitable.

The effects of dietary inclusion of sugar syrup on quality of egg,cholesterol level,production performance,serum total protein and blood biochemical parameters were evaluated in laying hens.A total of300 commercial Lohmann LSL hens(30 weeks of age) were randomly distributed into 3 dietary treatments which consisted of a normal corn diet containing cornesoy and 2 diets containing 5% and 10%sugar *** treatment was replicated 5 times(n=20).Egg production,feed intake,body weight and egg weight of laying hens fed different diets were *** experiment lasted for 20 *** Haugh unit scores of hens fed diets with sugar syrup were significantly increased(P mpared with the control *** sugar syrup had no significant effect on liver enzymes,total protein,blood glucose and creatinine in all *** eggs laid by hens fed sugar syrup diets had lower cholesterol level(P mpared with those laid by hens fed the control *** analysis showed that comparable electrophoretic patterns were noticed between serum proteins of treatment *** the results,it can be concluded that sugar syrup diets and corn diets have similar effects on feed intake,body weight,production of eggs and blood biochemical parameters in layer hens,which suggests sugar syrup can be used as an energy source for replacing part of corn in poultry layer diets.
