The sexually dimorphic expression of glutamate transporters and their implication in pain after spinal cord injury

In addition to the loss of motor function,~60% of patients develop pain after spinal cord *** cellular-molecular mechanisms are not well understood,but the data suggests that plasticity within the rostral,epicenter,and caudal penumbra of the injury site initiates a cellularmolecular interplay that acts as a rewiring mechanism leading to central neuropathic *** can lead to the formation of new connections triggering abnormal sensory *** excitatory glutamate transporters are responsible for the reuptake of extracellular glutamate which makes them a critical target to prevent neuronal hyperexcitability and *** previous studies showed a sexually dimorphic therapeutic window for spinal cord injury after treatment with the selective estrogen receptor modulator *** this study,we investigated the anti-allodynic effects of tamoxifen in male and female rats with spinal cord *** hypothesized that tamoxifen exerts anti-allodynic effects by increasing the expression of glutamate transporters,leading to reduced hyperexcitability of the secondary neuron or by decreasing aberrant *** and female rats received a moderate contusion to the thoracic spinal cord followed by subcutaneous slow-release treatment of tamoxifen or matrix pellets as a control(placebo).We used von Frey monofilaments and the“up-down method”to evaluate mechanical *** treatment decreased allodynia only in female rats with spinal cord injury revealing a sexdependent *** expression profile of glutamatergic transporters(excitatory amino acid transporter 1/glutamate aspartate transporter and excitatory amino acid transporter 2/glutamate transporter-1)revealed a sexual dimorphism in the rostral,epicenter,and caudal areas of the spinal cord with a pattern of expression primarily on *** rodents showed a significantly higher level of excitatory amino acid transporter-1 expression while male rodents showed increased

Interfacial Zn2+-solvation regulator towards reversible and stable Zn anode

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries （AZIBs） are fundamentally challenged by the instability of the electrode/electrolyte interface,predominantly due to irreversible zinc （Zn） deposition and hydrogen ***,the intricate mechanisms behind the electrochemical discrepancies induced by interfacial Zn2+-solvation and deposition behavior demand comprehensive *** molecules endowed with special functional groups （such as hydroxyl,carboxyl,etc.） have the potential to significantly optimize the solvation structure of Zn2+and regulate the interfacial electric double layer （EDL）.By increasing nucleation overpotential and decreasing interfacial free energy,these functional groups facilitate a lower critical nucleation radius,thereby forming an asymptotic nucleation model to promote uniform Zn ***,this study presents a pioneering approach by introducing trace amounts of n-butanol as solvation regulators to engineer the homogenized Zn （h-Zn） anode with a uniform and dense *** interfacial reaction and structure evolution are explored by in/ex-situ experimental techniques,indicating that the h-Zn anode exhibits dendrite-free growth,no by-products,and weak hydrogen evolution,in sharp contrast to the bare ***,the h-Zn anode achieves a rem..kable Zn utilization rate of approximately 20% and simultaneously sustains a prolonged cycle life exceeding 500 ***,the h-Zn//Nh4V4O10（NVO） full battery showcases exceptional cycle stability,retaining 95.04%capacity retention after 400 cycles at a large current density of 5 A *** study enlightens solvation-regulated additives to develop Zn anode with superior utilization efficiency and extended operational lifespan.

Tailoring light–matter Interactions in Overcoupled Resonator for Biomolecule Recognition and Detection

Plasmonic nanoantennas provide unique opportunities for precise control of light–matter coupling in surface-enhanced infrared absorption(SEIRA)spectroscopy,but most of the resonant systems realized so far suffer from the obstacles of low sensitivity,narrow bandwidth,and asymmetric Fano resonance ***,we demonstrated an overcoupled resonator with a high plasmon-molecule coupling coefficient(μ)(OC-hμresonator)by precisely controlling the radiation loss channel,the resonator-oscillator coupling channel,and the frequency detuning *** observed a strong dependence of the sensing performance on the coupling state,and demonstrated that OC-hμresonator has excellent sensing properties of ultra-sensitive(7.25%nm^(−1)),ultra-broadband(3–10μm),and immune asymmetric Fano *** characteristics represent a breakthrough in SEIRA technology and lay the foundation for specific recognition of biomolecules,trace detection,and protein secondary structure analysis using a single array(array size is 100×100μm^(2)).In addition,with the assistance of machine learning,mixture classification,concentration prediction and spectral reconstruction were achieved with the highest accuracy of 100%.Finally,we demonstrated the potential of OC-hμresonator for SARS-CoV-2 *** findings will promote the wider application of SEIRA technology,while providing new ideas for other enhanced spectroscopy technologies,quantum photonics and studying light–matter interactions.

Boosting bidirectional sulfur conversion enabled by introducing boron-doped atoms and phosphorus vacancies in Ni2P for lithium-sulfur batteries

lithium-sulfur （li-S） batteries have gained great attention due to the high theoretical energy density and low cost,yet their further commercialization has been obstructed by the notorious shuttle effect and sluggish redox ***,we supply a strategy to optimize the electron structure of Ni2P by concurrently introducing B-doped atoms and P vacancies in Ni2P （Vp-B-Ni2P）,thereby enhancing the bidirectional sulfur *** study indicates that the simultaneous introduction of B-doped atoms and P vacancies in Ni2P causes the redistribution of electron around Ni atoms,bringing about the upward shift of d-band center of Ni atoms and effective d-p orbital hybridization between Ni atoms and sulfur species,thus strengthening the chemical anchoring for lithium polysulfides （liPSs） as well as expediting the bidirectional conversion kinetics of sulfur ***,theoretical calculations reveal that the incorporation of B-doped atoms and P vacancies in Ni2P selectively promotes li2S dissolution and nucleation ***,the li-S batteries with Vp-B-Ni2P-separators present outstanding rate ability of 777 m A h g-1at 5 C and high areal capacity of 8.03 mA h cm-2under E/S of 5μL mg-1and sulfur loading of 7.20 mg *** work elucidates that introducing heteroatom and vacancy in metal phosphide collaboratively regulates the electron structure to accelerate bidirectional sulfur conversion.

The development of alkaline fuel cells is moving forward at an accelerated pace,and the application of ether-free bonded polymers to anion exchange membranes （AEms） has been widely ***,the question of the“trade-off”between AEm ionic conductivity and dimensional stability remains *** strategy of inducing microphase separation to improve the performance of AEm has attracted much attention recently,but the design of optimal molecular structures is still being ***,this work introduced different ratios of 3-bromo-1,1,1-trifluoroacetone （x=40,50,and 60） into the main chain of poly（p-terphenylene isatin）.Because fluorinated groups have excellent hydrophobicity,hydrophilic hydroxyl-containing side chains are introduced to jointly adjust the formation of phase separation *** results show that PTI-PTF50-NOh AEm with the appropriate fluorinated group ratio has the best ionic conductivity and alkali stability under the combined effect of *** has an ionic conductivity of 133.83 mS cm-1at 80°*** addition,the Oh-conductivity remains at 89%of the initial value at 80°C and 3 m kOh for 1056 h of *** cell polarization curve based on PTI-PTF50-NOh shows a power density of 734.76 mW cm-2at a current density of 1807.7 mA cm-2.

Study on the hydrogen absorption properties of a YGdTbDyho rare-earth high-entropy alloy

This study investigated the microstructure and hydrogen absorption properties of a rare-earth high-entropy alloy(hEA),*** indicated that the YGdTbDyho alloy had a microstructure of equiaxed grains,with the alloy elements distributed *** hydrogen absorption,the phase structure of the hEA changed from a solid solution with an hexagonal-close-packed(hCP)structure to a high-entropy hydride with an faced-centered-cubic(FCC)structure without any secondary phase *** alloy demonstrated a maximum hydrogen storage capacity of 2.33 h/m(hydrogen atom/metal atom)at 723 k,with an enthalpy change(Δh)of-141.09 kJ·mol^(-1)and an entropy change(ΔS)of-119.14 J·mol^(-1)·k^(-1).The kinetic mechanism of hydrogen absorption was hydride nucleation and growth,with an apparent activation energy(E_(a))of 20.90 kJ·mol^(-1).Without any activation,the YGdTbDyho alloy could absorb hydrogen quickly(180 s at 923 k)with nearly no incubation period *** reason for the obtained value of 2.33 h/m was that the hydrogen atoms occupied both tetrahedral and octahedral *** results demonstrate the potential application of hEAs as a high-capacity hydrogen storage material with a large h/m ratio,which can be used in the deuterium storage field.

Felt base carbon/carbon composites fabricated by super-high pressure impregnation carbonization process (SPIC) were heat treated at high temperature 2773k. The oxidation properties of felt base carbon/carbon composites were investigated at different temperatures (773-1173k), and the microstructures of carbon/carbon composites were studied by SEm and X-ray diffraction. The experimental results showed that the inter-laminar distance of (002) plane (d002) deceased while the microcrystalline stack height (Lc) increased. The oxidation rate of felt base carbon/carbon composites was invari-able at certain temperatures. The oxidation mechanism of carbon/carbon composites changed rem..kably at the oxidation temperature 973k. At the initial oxidation stage of carbon/carbon composites, carbon matrix was oxidized much more rapidly than carbon felt.

Distribution of Be in a Ti-Based Bulk metallic Glass Composite Containing B-Ti

In order to obtain a glassy matrix during quenching, Be is often selected as a constituent of the compositions of Ti/Zr-based bulk metallic glass composites（BmGCs）. The in situ formed β phase in Be-bearing BmGCs was reported to be Be-free. however, a thorough investigation of the distribution of Be in BmGCs is still missing to date. In this work, the distribution of Be in a Ti_（47.5）Zr_（33）Cu_（5.8）Co_3Be_（12.5）（at.%） BmGC was studied by the secondary ion mass spectrometry（SImS） and the electron energy loss spectroscopy（EELS）.It is found that Be almost totally dissolves in the glassy matrix, but a very weak intensity of Be in β phase is still detectable by SImS, and the content of Be in β-Ti is estimated to be about 0.3 at.%. Based on the recently established two-phase quasi-equilibrium of BmGCs, the distinct solubility of Be in the glassy matrix and in β-Ti has been explained.

Crack initiation of granite under uniaxial compression tests:A comparison study

In this study,a combination of acoustic emission(AE)method(AEm)and wave transmission method(WTm)is used to investigate the behaviors of AE and ultrasonic properties corresponding to initial fracturing in granitic *** relationships of AE characteristics,frequency spectra,and spatial locations with crack initiation(CI)are *** anisotropic ultrasonic characteristics,velocity distributions in different ray paths,wave amplitudes,and spectral characters of transmitted waves are *** identify CI stress,damage initiations characterized by strain-based method(SBm),AEm and WTm are *** granite samples,it shows that the ratio of CI stress to peak strength estimated by SBm ranges from 0.4 to 0.55,and 0.49-0.6 by WTm,which are higher than that of AEm(0.38-0.46).The CI stress identified by AEm indicates the onset of microcracking,and the combination of AEm and WTm provides an insight into the detection of rock damage initiation and anisotropy.

Objective:To assess the prevalence of malaria parasitemia in north-east Nigeria and to evaluate the measures for the prevention of ***:A village in north-eastern Nigeria was selected for the cross sectional study at the height of the rainy season in October 2011.A total of 550 inhabitants of a hamlet were recruited for this *** obtaining the consent individuals received a structured interview and were tested for malaria parasites in their blood *** testing positive for malaria were given a course of artemesinin-based combination therapy（ACT）.Results:A total of 497 inhabitants representing approximately 90 percent of the population participated:a quarter of the study group carried malaria parasitesexclusively Plasmodium falciparum（***）-representing a *** parasite rate（PfPR） of 24.5%.Besides,53/138 in the age group of 2 to hildren tested positive for *** representing a PfPR2-10 value of 38.4%.malaria control measures were used in just under a third（157/497） of this *** these measures 28/157（17.8%） still tested positive for ***:The malaria burden is overestimated for this region in north-east *** findings support an intermediate pattern of malaria *** 30%bed nets coverage for malaria control is well below the WhO estimates for 2011.
