Recent developm.nts in the study of ultracold Rydberg gases dem.nd an adwanced level of experim.ntal sophistication, in which high atom.c and optical densities m.st be com.ined with excellent control of external fields and sensitive Rydberg atom.detection. We describe a tailored experim.ntal system.used to produce and study Rydberg-interacting atom. excited from.dense ultracold atom.c gases. The experim.nt has been optim.zed for fast duty cycles using a high flux cold atom.source and a three beam.optical dipole trap. The latter enables tuning of the atom.c density and tem.erature over several orders of m.gnitude, all the way to the Bose--Einstein condensation transition. An elec- trode structure surrounding the atom. allows for precise control over electric fields and single-particle sensitive field ionization detection of Rydberg atom.. We review two experim.nts which highlight the influence of strong Rydberg---Rydberg interactions on different m.ny-body system.. First, the Rydberg blockade effect is used to pre-structure an atom.c gas prior to its spontaneous evolution into an ultracold plasm.. Second, hybrid states of photons and atom. called dark-state polaritons are studied. By looking at the statistical distribution of Rydberg excited atom. we reveal correlations between dark-state polaritons. These experim.nts will ultim.tely provide a deeper understanding of m.ny-body phenom.na in strongly-interacting regim.s, including the study of strongly-coupled plasm.s and interfaces between atom. and light at the quantum.level.

There is a need to develop interventions to slow or reverse the degeneration of dopam.ne neurons in Parkinson’s disease after *** that preclinical and clinical studies suggest benefits of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as docosahexaenoic acid,and exercise in Parkinson’s disease,we investigated whether both could synergistically interact to induce recovery of the dopam.nergic ***,m.ce received a unilateral stereotactic injection of 6-hydroxydopam.ne into the striatum.to establish an anim.l m.del of nigrostriatal *** weeks after lesion,anim.ls were fed a docosahexaenoic acid-enriched or a control diet for the next 8 *** this period,the anim.ls had access to a running wheel,which they could use or *** acid treatm.nt,voluntary exercise,or the com.ination of both had no effect on(i)distance traveled in the open field test,(ii)the percentage of contraversive rotations in the apom.rphine-induction test or(iii)the num.er of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive cells in the substantia nigra pars ***,the docosahexaenoic acid diet increased the num.er of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive term.nals and induced a rise in dopam.ne concentrations in the lesioned *** to docosahexaenoic acid treatm.nt or exercise alone,the com.ination of docosahexaenoic acid and exercise(i)im.roved forelim. balance in the stepping test,(ii)decreased the striatal DOPAC/dopam.ne ratio and(iii)led to increased dopam.ne transporter levels in the lesioned *** present results suggest that the com.ination of exercise and docosahexaenoic acid m.y act synergistically in the striatum.of m.ce with a unilateral lesion of the dopam.nergic system.and provide support for clinical trials com.ining nutrition and physical exercise in the treatm.nt of Parkinson’s disease.

Engineering carbon quantum.dots for photom.diated theranostics

Carbon quantum.dots （CQDs） have em.rged as potential alternatives to classical m.tal-based sem.conductor quantum.dots （QDs） due to the abundance of their precursors, their ease of synthesis, high biocom.atibility, low cost, and particularly their strong photoresponsiveness, tunability, and stability. Light is a versatile, tunable stim.lus that can provide spatiotem.oral control. Its interaction with CQDs elicits interesting responses such as wavelength-dependent optical em.ssions, charge/electron transfer, and heat generation, processes that are suitable for a range of photom.diated bioapplications. The carbogenic core and surface characteristics of CQDs can be tuned through versatile engineering strategies to endow specific optical and physicochem.cal properties, while conjugation with specific m.ieties can enable the design of targeted probes. Fundam.ntal approaches to tune the responses of CQDs to photo-interactions and the design of bionanoprobes are presented, which enable biom.dical applications involving diagnostics and therapeutics. These strategies represent com.rehensive platform. for engineering m.ltifunctional probes for nanom.dicine, and the design of QD probes with a range of m.tal-free and em.r^in~ 2D m.terials.

Class switch recom.ination(CSR)occurs at the IgH locus and replaces the im.unoglobulin(Ig)isotype expressed from.Igm.to IgG,IgE or IgA,endowing the B cell receptor with novel effector *** is triggered by activation-induced cytidine deam.nase(AID),1 an enzym. that deam.nates cytosines to uracils in single-stranded DNA exposed by *** distinct antibody isotypes are encoded in the IgH locus in individual transcription units com.osed of a cytokine-inducible prom.ter,an intronic exon,and a switch region(Sx),followed by the exons encoding the constant region(Cx)(Fig.S1a).During CSR,the choice of recom.ination to a particular isotype is determ.ned by the stim.lation-dependent activation of specific prom.ters,triggering the generation of noncoding germ.ine transcripts(GLTs).2 Thus far,the transcriptional regulation of the IgH locus is known to be controlled by the Eμenhancer,located downstream.of the variable region and upstream.of the donor switch region(Sμ),and the 3′regulatory region(3′RR)super-enhancer located downstream.of Cα.

In this paper,we propose a neoteric and high-efficiency single im.ge dehazing algorithm.via contrast enhancem.nt which is called STRASS(Spatio-Tem.oral Retinex-Inspired by an Averaging of Stochastic Sam.les)dehazing,it is realized by constructing an efficient high-pass filter to process haze im.ges and taking the influence of hum.n vision system.into account in im.ge dehazing *** novel high-pass filter works by getting each pixel using RSR and com.utes the average of the *** the low-pass filter resulting from.the m.nim.m.envelope in STRESS fram.work has been replaced by the average of the *** final dehazed im.ge is yielded after iterations of the high-pass *** can be run directly without any m.chine *** experim.ntal results on datasets prove that STRASS surpass the *** dehazing can be applied in the field of printing and packaging,our m.thod is of great significance for im.ge pre-processing before printing.

The Taebaek m.untains in Korea serve as the m.st apparent biogeographic barrier for Korean freshwater fishes,resulting in 2 distinct ichthyofaunal assem.lages on the eastern(East/Japan Sea slope)and western(Yellow Sea and Korea Strait slopes)sides of the m.untain *** nearly 100 species of native prim.ry freshwater fishes in Korea,only 18 species occur naturally on both sides of the m.untain ***,there are 5 rheophilic species(Phoxinus phoxinus,Coreoleuciscus splendidus,Ladislavia taczanowskii,Iksookim.a koreensis and Koreocobitis rotundicaudata)found on both sides of the Taebaek m.untains that are geographically restricted to the Osip River(and several neighboring rivers,for *** and ***)on the eastern side of the m.untain *** Osip River and its neighboring rivers also shared a rheophilic freshwater fish,Liobagrus m.diadiposalis,with the Nakdong River on the western side of the m.untain *** assessed historical biogeographic hypotheses on the presence of these rheophilic fishes,utilizing DNA sequence data from.the m.tochondrial cytochrom. b *** of our divergence tim. estim.tion indicate that ichthyofaunal transfers into the Osip River(and several neighboring rivers in East Sea slope)have occurred from.the Han(Yellow Sea slope)and Nakdong(Korea Strait slope)Rivers since the Late *** inferred divergence tim.s for the ichthyofaunal transfer across the Taebaek m.untains were consistent with the tim.ng of hypothesized m.ltiple reactivations of the Osip River Fault(Late Pleistocene),suggesting that the Osip River Fault reactivations m.y have caused stream.capture events,followed by ichthyofaunal transfer,not only between the Osip and Nakdong Rivers,but also between the Osip and Han Rivers.

As part of a collaborative study between the 3rd Institute of Oceanography, Xiam.n, and the U-K. Universities of East Anglia and St. Andrews, a 4-day experim.nt was conducted on a ridge- and -runnel beach of north Norfolk on the North Sea coast- detailed surveys were m.de of every low water of an area 10m.by 30m.and electrom.gnetic current m.ters were used to m.asure wave- induced currents over the ridge and in the runnel- The locations of bedform.fields were noted, fluorescent sand was used to follow the sand m.vem.nt and, at the end of the experim.nt, lacquer peels were taken of the top 0-2 m.of a vertical section through the ridge- and- runnel-During the 4 days 0-75 m. of sand per m.tre width of beach accreted in the runnel and a sim.lar volum. was eroded from.the upper foreshore. The dom.nant shoreward transport, identified qualitatively by the m.vem.nt of the fluorescent sand, suggests the ridge- and- runnel system.m.grated shorewards up the general beach slope of 1 by 2 - 3 m.
