Background: In Congo, there is no pediatric gastroenterology departm.nt and the activity of colonoscopy has never been evaluated. The aim.of this study is to report the indications and the results of pediatric colonoscopy in Brazzaville. m.thods: A retrospective study was conducted from.January 2016 to August 2017 by analyzing reports of colonoscopy perform.d in the gastroenterology departm.nt in Brazzaville. Sex, prescribers, indications and results of colonoscopy were the variables study. Results: over the 19-m.nth period, 489 colonoscopies have been perform.d, in which 13 (2.7%) colonoscopies were perform.d in children under 17 years, with an average age of 9.8 ± 4.6 (8 m.les and 6 fem.les) and the extrem. ranging from.1 - 17 years. The sex ratio (H/F) was 1.6. The prescribers were gastroenterologist (n = 4), pediatrician (n = 4), surgeons (n = 2), general practitioners (n = 2), pediatric students (n = 1). Chronic bowel inflam.atory diseases and polypectom. was the m.st frequent conditions for colonoscopy indication. Seven (7) colonoscopies were norm.l. 4 cases were recto-polyps, and 2 cases were ulcerative colitis. Conclusion: pediatric colonoscopy is a powerful diagnostic and therapeutic m.ans. The pediatricians should think about it to im.rove the m.nagem.nt of children with digestive sym.tom. that m.et the indications of pediatric colonoscopy.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a m.jor public health problem.in the world. In Congo, studies on the prevalence of HBV infection are com.on but HDV infection is rare. Objective: Contribute to im.rove the m.nagem.nt and prevention of HBV and HDV infections. Patients and m.thods: This was a descriptive and cross-sectional study conducted from.January to August 2016 in the health services of the various departm.nts of Congo and at the national public health laboratory in Brazzaville. All patients with HBsAg surface antigen who were at least 18 years old and who consented to the study were included. The HBs antigen was first tested by a rapid test then confirm.d by ELISA. All HBsAg positive patients were subsequently subjected to a second ELISA test for Delta antibody. The techniques of extraction and conventional and specific gene am.lification were carried out on plasm. for the identification of the genotypes of the two viruses. The data analysis was done with EpiInfo V7 software. The proportions were com.ared using the Chi-square test or the Fisher test at the significance level of 5%. Results: 1618 subjects were included, of whom.180 were positive for HBsAg, a frequency of 11.12%. The sex ratio (m.F) was 0.77%, the m.an age was 40.2 ± 15.6 years with extrem.s ranging from.18 to 88 years. Of the 180 HBsAg positive, 22 were anti-VHD positive, a frequency of 12.22%. HBV DNA was am.lified in 83.8% (151/180), HDV RNA in 63.6% (14/22). For HBV, three genotypes were identified: E (46.9%), A (43.7%) and D (9.4%), however for VHD three genotypes D1, D5, D8 were identified. Conclusion: Co-infection of hepatitis B and Delta viruses is com.on in Congo. The m.nagem.nt and prevention of hepatitis B m.st take into account the reality of this co-infection.

Objective: To study the epidemiological, clinical and paraclinical particularities of fatty liver disease in patients with metabolic syndrome. Patients and Method: This was a cross-sectional and analytical study carried out over a period of seven months, from February 1 to September 30, 2019, in the outpatient services of Gastroenterology and Metabolic and Endocrine Diseases of the Brazzaville University Hospital. It interested all patients with metabolic syndrome, according to the criteria of the FID harmonized in 2009, namely known diabetic and hypertensive patients, having abdominal obesity. Results: The variables studied were socio-demographic, clinical, morphological and biological. The search for fatty liver was done using an abdominal ultrasound. Results: During the study period, 124 patients with metabolic syndrome were included. The average age of the population was 52.8 ± 12 years with extremes ranging from 30 and 84 years. The population was mainly female with a Sex-Ratio of 2.54 (F/M). The frequency of fatty liver disease was 38.7%. The frequency of dyslipidemia was high in the study. Conclusion: The prevalence of hepatic steatosis is high in patients with metabolic syndrome at Brazzaville University Hospital. The gender, lack of occupation and high level of education were the factors associated with fatty liver disease.

Introduction: Viral hepatitis B is the m.st form.dable and confusing of all viral hepatitis, given its cirrhogenic and carcinogenic potential. The objective of the study is to characterize the m.lecular profile of hepatitis virus B in northern Congo. m.terials and m.thods: This was a descriptive and cross-sectional study that was carried out between January and Septem.er 2014, that is 9 m.nths, in the establishm.nts of the National Center for Blood Transfusion (CNTS) of the 4 departm.nts of the north of the Congo. Epidem.ological, serological and m.lecular variables (HBsAg, HBV DNA, genotypes and subtypes) were studied. The HBs antigen was searched by rapid test and confirm.d by ELISA. For all positive donors, conventional and specific gene extraction and am.lification techniques were perform.d for the identification of genotypes and subtypes from.the serum. Results: A total of 892 donors were included. The average age was 35.36 ± 12.36 years with extrem.s ranging from.18 to 65 years old. The sex ratio (m.F) was 3.3. The prevalence of HBV was 8.6%. The viral DNA of HBV was am.lified in 83.1%. Four genotypes were found: E (40.6%), A (3.1%), B (3.1%) and C (1.6%). Two cases of co-infection were identified: E/A (15.6%) and B/C (1.6%). Subgenotypes A1, B2 and C1 were highlighted. Conclusion: The prevalence of HBV is high, HBV infection rem.ins a m.jor public health problem.for blood donors in Congo. Genotypes E, A, B, C as well as subtypes A1, B2, C1 have been identified in northern Congo.
