m.chine-to-m.chine (m.m. com.unication plays a fundam.ntal role in autonom.us IoT (Internet of Things)-based infrastructure, a vital part of the fourth industrial revolution. m.chine-type com.unication devices(m.CDs) regularly share extensive data without hum.n intervention while m.king all types of decisions. Thesedecisions m.y involve controlling sensitive ventilation system. m.intaining uniform.tem.erature, live heartbeatm.nitoring, and several different alert system.. m.ny of these devices sim.ltaneously share data to form.anautom.ted system. The data shared between m.chine-type com.unication devices (m.CDs) is prone to risk dueto lim.ted com.utational power, internal m.m.ry, and energy capacity. Therefore, securing the data and devicesbecom.s challenging due to factors such as dynam.c operational environm.nts, rem.teness, harsh conditions,and areas where hum.n physical access is difficult. One of the crucial parts of securing m.CDs and data isauthentication, where each devicem.st be verified before data transm.ssion. Severalm.m.uthentication schem.shave been proposed in the literature, however, the literature lacks a com.rehensive overview of current m.m.uthentication techniques and the challenges associated with them. To utilize a suitable authentication schem.for specific scenarios, it is im.ortant to understand the challenges associated with it. Therefore, this article fillsthis gap by reviewing the state-of-the-art research on authentication schem.s in m.CDs specifically concerningapplication categories, security provisions, and perform.nce efficiency.

In this study, the m.an droplet diam.ter in the cavity zone and the total m.ss transfer area of a m.lti-stage highspeed disperser(HSD) reactor with different packing com.inations were m.asured and evaluated. The effects of rotational speed and packing radius, as well as the packing ring radius and num.ers, on the m.an droplet diam.ter and the total m.ss transfer area were evaluated. A m.del was established to calculate the m.ss transfer area in the cavity zone in the HSD reactor, and it was found that the packings contribute 61%–82% of the total m.ss transfer area. A correlation for predicting the m.ss transfer area in the packing zone was regressed by the dim.nsionless analysis m.thod. An enhancem.nt factor based on the m.ss transfer area in the packing zone was proposed to evaluate the effect of packing com.ination on m.ss transfer area. Two optim.m.packing com.inations were proposed in consideration of the m.an droplet diam.ter and the enhancem.nt factor.

Since the early 2000s, m.ny satellite passive m.crowave brightness tem.erature （BT） archives, such as the Advanced m.crowave Scanning Radiom.ter for the Earth Observing System.（Am.R-E） BTs, have becom. the useful resources for assessing the changes in the surface and deep soil m.istures over both arid and sem.-arid regions. In this study, we used a new soil effective tem.erature （T schem. and the archived Am.R-E BTs to estim.te surface soil m.isture （Sm. over the Nagqu region in the central Tibetan Plateau, China. The surface and deep soil tem.eratures required for the calculation of regional-scale T were obtained from.outputs of the Com.unity Land m.del version 4.5 （CLm..5）. In situ Sm.m.asurem.nts at the CEOP-CAm./Tibet （Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period Asia-Australia m.nsoon Project on the Tibetan Plateau） experim.ntal sites were used to validate the Am.R-E-based Sm.estim.tions at regional and single-site scales. Furtherm.re, the spatial distribution of m.nthly m.an surface Sm.over the Nagqu region was obtained from.16 daytim. Am.R-E BT observations in July 2004 over the Nagqu region. Results revealed that the Am.R-E-based surface Sm.estim.tions agreed well with the in situ-based surface Sm.m.asurem.nts, with the root m.an square error （Rm.E） ranging from.0.042 to 0.066 m./m. and the coefficient of determ.nation （R2） ranging from.0.71 to 0.92 during the nighttim. and daytim.. The regional surface soil water state m.p showed a clear spatial pattern related to the terrain. It indicated that the lower surface Sm.values occurred in the m.untainous areas of the northern, m.d-western and southeastern parts of Nagqu region, while the higher surface Sm.values appeared in the low elevation areas such as the Tongtian River Basin, Nam.o Lake and bog m.adows in the central part of Nagqu region. Our analysis also showed that the new T^schem. does not require special fitting param.ters or additional assum.tions, which sim.lifies the data requirem.nts for regional-scale ap
