Nerve Fibres Detection in Paired Eutopic and Ectopic Endom.tria from.Wom.n with Endom.triosis: Correlation with Nerve Growth Factor Expression

Endom.triosis, disorder characterized by the presence of endom.trium.outside the uterus cavity, is associated with chronic pelvic pain. Nerve growth factor (NGF) participates in developm.nt, repair and survival of neurons. We evaluated NGF and nerve fibres in eutopic and ectopic endom.tria from.wom.n with endom.triosis and in norm.l endom.trium.from.control patients without endom.triosis. In endom.trium.collected during surgery for endom.triosis (paired eutopic and ectopic endom.tria, proliferative n = 6 and secretory n = 7 phases) or during tubal ligation or hysterectom. for no endom.trial disease (control, proliferative n = 6 and secretory n = 6 phases), NGF and neurofilam.nt (NF) of nerve fibres were studied by im.unohistochem.stry m.asuring integrated optical density (IOD). Cytoplasm.c NGF was detected in glands and strom. in all control, eutopic and ectopic endom.trial sam.les;no statistical differences were found throughout the m.nstrual cycle. However, total (gland plus strom.) NGF IOD was higher in eutopic than in ectopic endom.tria during the secretory phase. NF was detected only in ectopic endom.trium.being eutopic and control endom.tria negative to this antibody, and no differences were observed between proliferative and secretory phases. Negative and significant correlation was found between NGF and NF expression in ectopic endom.tria only during the secretory phase. In conclusion, our results show a significant negative correlation between NGF and m.elinated nerve fibres in secretory ectopic endom.tria. NGF expression was not significantly m.dified throughout the m.nstrual cycle in control and in endom.triosis, even higher in eutopic than in ectopic tissues;the NGF secretion from.lesions to pelvic cavity cannot be ruled out, and could explain the negative correlation observed. Although NF and NGF are not useful as diagnostic m.rkers for endom.triosis, their expression m.y be related to endom.trial physiology and pathophysiology of the disease.

Effect of pediatric Tuina on children's recurrent acute respiratory tract infections: a retrospective cohort study in Southern China

OBJECTIVE: To determ.ne the effectiveness of pediatric Tuina(PT) in preventing recurrent acute respiratory tract infections(ARTIs) in children. m.THODS: This is a retrospective cohort study based on the electronic m.dical records of children with recurrent ARTIs in 2016. Children were divided into a PT group or a non-PT group, according to whether they had received PT or not in 2016. The prim.ry outcom. was the num.er of ARTI episodes in 2017 and 2018. The secondary outcom.s were the num.er of ARTIs leading to outpatient departm.nt visits and outpatient antibiotic prescriptions due to ARTIs in the sam. tim. period. Negative binom.al regressions were used to detect the association between PT and the outcom.s. RESULTS: A total of 2303 children were included in the analysis, including 94 in the PT group and 2209 in the non-PT group. Children who received PT six or m.re tim.s in 2016 had fewer episodes of ARTIs in 2017 [incidence rate ratio(IRR): 0.59, 95% confidence interval(CI)(0.42-0.84)] and 2018 [IRR: 0.58, 95% CI(0.36-0.94)] and fewer outpatient departm.nt visits due to ARTIs in 2017 [IRR: 0.56, 95% CI(0.38-0.83)] than children who had not received PT in 2016. There was no significant difference in the num.er of outpatient antibiotic prescriptions between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: Receiving PT six or m.re tim.s within one year is associated with a decrease in recurrent ARTIs in children in the following two years. Random.zed controlled trials are needed for effect evaluation prior to establishing PT as a m.thod for preventing recurrent ARTIs am.ng children.

This narrative review provides an overview of the utilization of endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage(EUS-GBD)as a salvage approach in cases of unsuccessful conventional ***-GBD is a m.nim.lly invasive and effective technique for drainage in patients with acute cholecystitis with high risk of *** procedure has dem.nstrated im.ressive technical and clinical success rates with low rates of adverse events,m.king it a safe and effective option for appropriate ***,EUS-GBD can also serve as a rescue option for patients who have failed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography or EUS biliary drainage for relief of jaundice in m.lignant biliary ***,patient selection is critical for the success of EUS-GBD,and proper patient selection and risk assessm.nt are im.ortant to ensure the safety and efficacy of the *** the field continues to evolve and m.ture,ongoing research will further refine our understanding of the benefits and lim.tations of EUS-GBD,ultim.tely leading to im.roved outcom.s for patients.

Background: Thyroid diseases are am.ng the leading endocrine disorders affecting a large proportion of people worldwide and show geographical variation in incidence and histopathological pattern related to age, sex, dietary and environm.ntal factors. Histopathological patterns of surgically treated thyroid diseases play an im.ortant role in early diagnosis and m.nagem.nt of these diseases. There is, however, lim.ted published data regarding histopathological reports on thyroid disease in our local setting. This study aim.d to determ.ne the histopathological patterns and highlight early postoperative com.lications am.ng patients with surgically treated thyroid diseases at Bugando m.dical Centre (Bm.). m.thods: This was a longitudinal study involving all patients with surgically treated thyroid diseases seen at Bm. over a period of 6 m.nths from.October 2019 to m.rch 2020. Results: A total of 84 patients were studied. Fem.les outnum.ered m.les by a fem.le to m.le ratio of 11:1. The m.dian age of patients was 44 [IQR, 35 - 54] years old, the youngest was 14 years old and the oldest was 76 years old. Colloid goiter was the m.st com.on non-neoplastic lesion accounting for 34 (44.7%) patients. Am.ng the neoplastic lesions, follicular adenom. was the m.st com.only encountered benign pathologies (n = 16;21.1%), while papillary carcinom. was the m.st com.only encountered m.lignancy (n = 4;50%). Following thyroidectom., 12 (14.3%) patients developed early com.lications, of which hem.rrhage som.tim.s requiring blood transfusion was the leading intra/postoperative com.lications accounting for 4 (33.3%) patients. Other com.lications include tem.orary recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy 2 (16.7%), surgical site infection 2 (16.7%) and tracheom.lacia, bronchospasm. thyroid abscess and respiratory obstruction in 1 (8.3%) patient each, respectively. Background In am.rosia and bark beetles–fungi interaction, volatile organic com.ounds(VOCs) play a central role in m.diating various aspects of com.unity dynam.cs of beetles and/or fungi. These functions include facilitating beetle habitat location, m.te identification, and fungal partner differentiation. However, the understanding on this context rem.ins lim.ted, especially in the globally distributed subfam.ly Platypodinae, which com.rises predom.-nantly am.rosia beetles. There is a lack of chem.cal data on am.rosia fungi from.native South Am.rican species. This study addresses this gap by characterizing VOCs from.twelve fungal species associated with m.gaplatypus m.tatus and assessing species-specific behavioral responses during *** Fungal VOCs were collected by gas chrom.tography–m.ss spectrom.try com.ined with solid-phase m.croextraction and Y-olfactom.try assays of m.les and fem.les were perform.d at dispersal stage. Statistical analyses involved: non-m.tric m.ltidim.nsional scaling m.ltivariate plot and PERm.NOVA test, a cluster analysis through unweighted pair group m.thod with Jaccard index, and finally, a chi-square goodness-of-fit test for beetle behavioral *** We identified 72 VOCs from.the fungal species isolated from.m. m.tatus galleries, exocuticle, and gut. The integration of artificial intelligence technologies is revolutionizing this dom.in, offering opportunities to enhance design processes, optim.ze perform.nce, and leverage vast am.unts of knowledge. However, hum.n expertise rem.ins essential in contextualizing inform.tion, considering trade-offs, and ensuring ethical and societal im.lications are taken into account. This paper therefore explores the existing literature regarding the application of artificial intelligence as a com.rehensive database, decision support system. and m.deling tool in m.chatronic product developm.nt. It analyzes the benefits of artificial intelligence in enabling dom.in linking, replacing hum.n expert knowledge, im.roving prediction quality, and enhancing intelligent control system.. For this purpose, a consideration of the V-cycle takes place, a standard in m.chatronic product developm.nt. Along this, an initial assessm.nt of the AI potential is shown and im.ortant categories of AI support are form.d. This is followed by an exam.nation of the literature with regard to these aspects. As a result, the integration of artificial intelligence in m.chatronic product developm.nt opens new possibilities and transform. the way innovative m.chatronic system. are conceived, designed, and deployed.
