Larvicidal efficacy of m.noterpenes against the larvae of Anopheles gam.iae

Objective:To evaluate the larvicidal efficacy of eight volatile com.onents of essential oils against 3rd instar larvae of Anopheles gam.iae ***:Larvicidal effects of each com.ound were evaluated in both laboratory and sem.-field *** solution was prepared and serial dilutions were m.de in six concentrations for each com.ound.A total of 20 larvae were exposed to larvicides for each replicate and m.nitored at intervals of 12,24,48 and 72 *** m.nitoring was done on basis of dead and live larvae in all ***:All assayed com.ounds were larvicides and presented varying degrees of larval toxicity,with LC50 values ranging from.1.28 to 1 938.92 m./L depending on the treatm.nt tim.(12,24,48 or 72 h).(-)-Perillyl alcohol presented the strongest larvicidal activity towards Anopheles gam.iae larvae,with LC_(50) values of 73.60,18.36,1.72 and1.28 m./L after 12,24,48 and 72 h of exposure,*** next strongest were(-)-isopulegol(LC_(50)= 135.10,49.39,34.39 and 20.22 m./L) and(-)-carvone epoxide(LC_(50)= 168.86,124.74,80.84 and 23.46 m./L).After 12,24 and 48 h of treatm.nt,hydroxydihydrocarvone was the least toxic com.ound,with LC_(50) values of 1 938.92,1 172.18 and 401.03 m./L,***:The data obtained in this study suggest that all evaluated m.noterpenes,especially(-)-perillyl alcohol,have rem.rkable larvicidal effects and m.y be considered as potential sources for the developm.nt of suitable natural larvicides for m.squito m.nagem.nt *** sm.ll-scale field trials should be conducted.

Different canopy characteristics of industrial eucalyptus m.y lead to differences in water evaporation and availability to *** study aim. to understand rainfall partitioning in a young clonal plantation(age of 2-4.5 years)of three eucalyptus species by relating tree param.ters:diam.ter at breast height,total height,and leaf area *** m.asured rainfall,throughfall,stem.low and litter interception,along with the tree *** eucalyptus trees had rainfall interception varying between 22 m.(for 178 m. of rainfall)and 42 m.(for 87 m. of te rainfall),throughfall between 106 m.(for 186 m. of rainfall)and 44 m.(for 74 m. of rainfall),and stem.low between 0.5 m.(for 92 m. of rainfall)and 1.4 m.(for 24 m. of rainfall).For the three species,rainfall interception varied between 12 and 48%,throughfall between 57 and 90%,and stem.low between 0.3 and 5.4%.The coefficient of determ.nation between interception and rainfall was 0.76,indicating interception depends on other variables,possibly including antecedent rainfall,rainfall intensity,and *** decreased with a reduction in leaf area index caused by eucalyptus *** *** had 0.75 m. of throughfall per 1 m. of rainfall,whereas in *** and E saligna,these ratios were 0.71 and 0.68,*** in *** and *** had a higher positive relationship with the diam.ter at breast height of the trees,whereas in *** the highest relationship was with the *** results contribute to establishing m.nagem.nt strategies,such as choosing suitable eucalyptus species to local clim.te,and to im.rove the synchronization of crop-dem.nd versus soil-water-supply while m.intaining stream.low to fulfill ecological and production needs.

How do greenhouse gas em.ssions vary with biofertilizer type and soil tem.erature and m.isture in a tropical grassland?

Greenhouse gases are known to play an im.ortant role in global *** this study,we determ.ned the effects of selected soil and clim.te variables on nitrous oxide(N2O),m.thane(CH4),and carbon dioxide(CO2)em.ssions from.a tropical grassland fertilized with chicken slurry,swine slurry,cattle slurry,and cattle *** N2O em.ssions did not differ between treatm.nts and varied from.29.26 to 32.85 m. N m.-***,cum.lative CH4 em.ssions were not significantly different am.ng the treatm.nts and ranged from.6.34 to 57.73 m. CH4 m.-*** and com.ost application induced CO2 em.ssions that were significantly different from.those in the control *** CH4 conversion factors m.asured were 0.21%,1.39%,4.39%,and 5.07%for cattle com.ost,chicken slurry,swine slurry,and cattle slurry,respectively,differing from.the recom.endations of the Intergovernm.ntal Panel on Clim.te Change(IPCC).The fraction of added Nem.tted as N2O was 0.39%,which was lower than the IPCC default value of 2%.Our findings suggest that N2O em.ssions could be m.tigated by replacing synthetic fertilizer sources with either biofertilizer or *** results indicate the following:N2O em.ssion was m.inly controlled by soil tem.erature,followed by soil m.isture and then soil NH^"content;CH4 fluxes were m.inly controlled by soil m.isture and cham.er headspace tem.erature;and CO2 fluxes were m.inly controlled by cham.er headspace tem.erature and soil m.isture.

DC plasm. is a very prom.sing technology for processing different m.terials, and is becom.ng especially interesting when low environm.ntal im.act and high-perform.nce treatm.nts are needed. Som. of the intrinsic characteristics of DC plasm. technology, which m.ke it suitable for powder m.tallurgy （Pm. and powder injection m.lding （PIm. parts production, are low- pressure processing and plasm. environm.nt high reactivity. m.reover it can be considered as a highly com.etitive green technology. In this work, an overview of som. of the im.ortant DC plasm. techniques applied to Pm.and PIm.parts processing is presented. Em.hasis is given to the descriptions of the m.in characteristics and the technique potentials of plasm.-assisted nitriding, plasm.-assisted therm.l debinding, plasm.-assisted sintering, and sim.ltaneously plasm.-assisted sintering and surface alloying. The aspects presented and discussed in this paper indicate that DC plasm. processes are prom.sing and com.etitive techniques for Pm.and PIm.parts processing.

Trans-resveratrol(RSV)is recognised as a bioactive ingredient in the developm.nt of functional *** stability,solubility,and bioavailability constraints can be overcom. by delivery system.,not yet tested in *** study aim. at evaluating the im.act of two delivery system. on the stability,antioxidant activity,bioaccessibility and bioavailability of RSV integrated into a bread m.trix:an inclusion com.lex of RSV andγ-cyclodextrin(γCD⋅RSV)and RSV loaded zein nanoparticles(nZ-RSV).Wheat bread was supplem.nted with 0.5%of pure RSV(RSV-bread)and equivalent am.unts ofγ-CD⋅RSV and *** am.unt of RSV recovered from.the hydroethanolic extracts ofγ-CD⋅RSV-and nZ-RSV-bread was 70.3%and 62.8%of the initial am.unt,respectively,lower than RSV-bread extract,89.0%,indicating lower degradability during bread *** vehicles helped to retain RSV antioxidant activity but did not increase RSV bioaccessibility(c.a.40%for free RSV andγCD⋅RSV,and 29%for nZ-RSV).In vitro tests on intestinal cell m.nolayers showed that,after 4 h of contact,only 5.0%of the initially available am.unt of RSV was able to perm.ate the intestinal barrier in all ***,bread itself is a vehicle for RSV integration into our daily diet,without the need for an additional delivery system.

An 800 kV electric power substation can have m.re than one hundred of porcelain m.lticone type insulators supporting busbar *** or m.re sections in series,having m.ddle and end fittings,com.ose these *** process can cause degradation of the cem.nt used in this type of insulator and this fact can affect its dielectric perform.nce under heavy *** paper presents results of an investigation based on power frequency high voltage tests perform.d on 800 kV porcelain m.lticone type insulators,rem.ved from.service after having operated for m.re than 20 years,as well a non-used one that had been stored on site for long *** insulators were tested in different arrangem.nts:each section at a tim. and the two sections assem.led in series,as actually used insulator *** tests were carried out under artificial rain ranging from.1 m./m.n to 5 m./*** results have confirm.d a reduction of up to 30% in the insulator power frequency flashover voltage under 5 m./m.n rain conditions and gave im.ortant inform.tion to the utility about radial cracks that were observed in m.ny insulators and about the discharge m.chanism. along the insulators under rain.

Rem.val and desorption of chrom.um.in synthetic effluent by a m.xed culture in a bioreactor with a m.gnetic field

Two chrom.um.rem.val experim.nts were perform.d in bioreactors with and without a m.gnetic field under the sam. *** release of the chrom.um.present in the biom.ss was tested in two experim.nts one with the initial pH of the m.dium.and one with pH *** objective was to rem.ve Cr(Ⅵ)and total Cr from.the effluent,this was carried out by placing biological treatm.nts of synthetic effluent contam.nated with 100 m./L of Cr(Ⅵ)in a bioreactor with neodym.um.m.gnets that applied a m.gnetic field(intensity85.4 m.)to the m.xed *** rem.val of Cr(Ⅵ)was approxim.tely 100.0%for the bioreactor with a m.gnetic field and 93,3%for the bioreactor without a m.gnetic field for9 hr of recirculation of the synthetic effluent by the *** rem.val of total Cr was61.6%and 48.4%,with and without a m.gnetic field,respectively;for 24 *** desorption of Cr(VI)in the synthetic effluent was 0.05 m./L,which is below the lim.t established by Brazilian legislation(0.1 m./L)for the discharge of effluent containing Cr(Ⅵ)into bodies of *** results obtained for the rem.val of chrom.um.in synthetic effluent suggested that there was no significant influence on the viable cell count of the m.xed *** desorption of Cr(Ⅵ)in synthetic effluent after bioadsorption of chrom.um.by the m.xed culture in the process of rem.val of chrom.um.in bioreactors with and without a m.gnetic field was not significant in either of the experim.nts with different initial pHs.

What is the value of eucalyptus m.nocultures for the biodiversity of the Atlantic forest? A m.ltitaxa study in southern Bahia, Brazil

Eucalyptus plantations are increasing in Brazil, frequently replacing pastures, but there is still scarce inform.tion about its capacity to m.intain the fauna of neighbor forest rem.ants. In this study, we com.ared descriptors of the com.unities of leaf litter organism. （lizards, anurans, m.riapods, arachnids, orthopterans, coleopterans, and ants） between a large rem.ant of prim.ry Atlantic Forest and an adjacent eucalyptus m.noculture （phase 1）. Then, we com.ared the sam. descriptors for leaf litter lizards and anurans, Euglossini bees, and frugivorous butterflies am.ng the largest rem.ant, sm.ll rem.ants at interm.diate regeneration stage, and eucalyptus m.nocultures that were not adjacent to the largest rem.ant （phase 2）. m.nocultures were sam.led im.ediately before logging. In phase 1, we detected significant differences in structure between the forest and the m.noculture in six out of seven com.unities sam.led. Ca. 81% of the species of the landscape were recorded in the forest, but only 54% of these were found also in the m.noculture. In phase 2, the structure of two out of four forest com.unities was significantly different from.the structure of sm.ll rem.ants and m.nocultures. On average, 76% of the species found in the whole landscape were sam.led in the forest. Out of this subset, on average 74% of the species were also sam.led in sm.ll rem.ants and 68% in m.nocultures. Findings of the present study point out a m.derate capacity of eucalyptus m.nocultures to harbor species of the forest fauna even when fully grown but highlights the opportunity that they m.ght offer for increasing connectivity in anthropogenic forest landscapes depending on their m.nagem.nt.
