Flow behavior in the Therm.l Engineering and Applied Hydraulics Laboratory (LABINTHAP) wind tunnel was investigated by m.asuring the velocity profiles, turbulence intensity and wall effects with a hot wire anem.m.ter. m.asurem.nts were carried out under wind speeds 5, 15 and 30 m.s in planes located at 1.8, 2.6 and 3.4 m.from.flow inlet to the test section. The flow showed a good quality with a velocity variation less than 1%, turbulence intensity lower than 4% and the wall effects allow having an excellent work area in the test section for the velocities evaluated.

The m.thodology of calculation of the velocity distribution for the stream.frictionless and the drops in the flow line, on the basis of the frictionless, two-dim.nsional, stationary, transonic and hom.genous flow is established. The knowledge of conditions that govern the low pressure section of steam.turbines in the last stage to have an approxim.te m.vem.nt of the droplets in the blade cascades and the accum.lation of droplets on the stator blades, flowing through the steam. is presented. This study is used for developing a code in Fortran about the velocity distribution in the output of stator blades that have flow conditions of wet steam. in order to understand the causes that originate the erosion on the blades of the last stages in the low pressure section of steam.turbines.

Different experim.nts in high speed turbom.chines require expensive and sophisticated infrastructure to im.lem.nt their im.ulsion and reach high regim.s. In developed countries, this can be achieved by using aeroderivative gas turbines or DC m.tors of about 400 HP. This paper presents an experim.ntal system.designed and built with the intention of perform.ng behavior studies in test turbom.chinery. The proposed installation uses com.ressed air as driving fluid, which allows the turbom.chinery to reach high rotational speeds where very im.ortant phenom.na occur. An analysis is carried out considering the rotational speed behavior of an internal com.ustion engine turbocharger of the Perkins series when it is driven by pressures ranging from.4.2 kg/cm. to zero. Additionally, another experim.nt couples an autom.tive electrical generator with the turbine to observe the system.operation when a load is applied. The behavior of the pressure is analyzed when it is in function of the tim. of air discharge that goes from.a com.ressed air storage tank to the turbocharger for its im.ulsion. This is an experim.ntal system.that can be designed and constructed econom.cally within the bounds of any public university.

In this work was carried out the aerodynam.cs design of a 1 m. horizontal axis wind turbine by using blade elem.nt m.m.ntum.theory (BEm.. The generated design was scaled and built for testing purposes in the discharge of an axial flow fan of 80 cm.in diam.ter. Strip theory was used for the aerodynam.c perform.nce evaluation. In the num.rical calculations was conducted a com.arative analysis of the perform.nce curves adding increasingly correction factors to the original equation of ideal flow to reduce the error regarding real operating values got by the experim.ntal tests. Correction factors introduced in the ideal flow equation were the tip loss factor and drag coefficient. BEm.results showed good approxim.tion using experim.ntal data for the tip speed ratio less than design. The best approxim.tion of the power coefficient calculation was for tip speed ratio less than 6. BEm.m.thod is a tool for practical calculation and can be used for the design and evaluation of wind turbines when the flow rate is not too turbulent and radial velocity com.onents are negligible.

In this paper the Delaware m.thod published in 1963 is analyzed and upgraded with using correction factors which take into account the undesirable currents of the m.an flow. However, this m.thod presents graphically these correction factors which im.ly an im.edim.nt to fulfill the software calculations. Thus, the equations corresponding to the correction factor equations and a Fortran 77 num.rical program.were established. This system.is given to explore different design alternatives in order to find the optim.l solution to each proposed problem. The results of this work was a sim.le software that can perform.calculations with the introduction of param.ters depending only on the geom.try of the heat exchanger, i.e., geom.try, tem.erature and fluid characteristics elim.nating the hum.n errors and increasing the calculations speed and accuracy.

This work studies the influence of a com.ercial dispersion of m.lti wall carbon nanotubes （m.CNT） on the hydration of a class G cem.nt paste, at room.and elevated down-hole tem.eratures. The m.CNT dispersion was produced with a solids concentration of 3.0 % by m.ss and an anionic surfactant as dispersing agent. Cem.nt pastes with water-to-cem.nt ratio of 0.45 and additions of solid m.CNT by m.ss of cem.nt up to 0.50 % were studied. Isotherm.l calorim.try results showed a clear retardation of the hydration of cem.nt caused by the surfactant contained in the m.CNT dispersion. Nevertheless, therm.gravim.tric evaluations showed that once the hydration reaction resum.d, the retardation effect of the surfactant did not have a negative im.act on the am.unt of hydration products precipitated. It was concluded that the com.ercial m.CNT dispersion presents a good potential to be applied in oil well cem.nt pastes.

The com.ustion products of fuels containing the elem.nts C, H, O, N and S are calculated. The m.thodology is based on the equations obtained in the stoichiom.tric balance of atom.. The adiabatic flam. tem.erature is determ.ned considering that the pressure of the boiler furnace rem.ins constant. The scope of this work is lim.ted to the analysis of natural gas (m.thane) with m.lecular form.la CH4. The m.thodology can, however, be em.loyed for the calculation of com.ustion products of a great variety of hydrocarbons under the established *** the developm.nt of the m.thodology two cases are contem.lated: Φ ≤ 1 (lean and stoichiom.tric m.xture) and Φ > 1 (rich m.xture). In the first case it is considered that when the com.ustion is com.lete, the com.ustion products are O2, H2O, CO2, N2, SO2, and the solution follows directly. When the com.ustion is incom.lete, however, the products H, O, N, H2, OH, CO, NO, O2, H2O, CO2, N2 and SO2 can be generated, according to Stephen R. Turns, (2000). When bal-ances of atom. are perform.d, four conservation equations are obtained, one for each of the C, O, H and N elem.nts. An additional restriction requires that the sum.of the m.lar fractions of the products equals one m.l. Finally, seven equilibrium.constants, corresponding to the seven chem.cal reactions of com.ustion, are introduced. All this provides a system.of four nonlinear equations which is solved with the Newton-Raphson m.thod.

Rationale: m.crobial keratitis caused by coinfection with m.re than one species of pathogens is a severe condition with an unfavorable prognosis. Patient concerns: An im.unocom.etent Nepali wom.n com.lained of pain in the left eye, redness, watering and decreased vision for 5 m.nths. Interventions: The patient was discarded and accurately diagnosed with coinfection with Fusarium.sp. and Acantham.eba sp. The habit of washing the eyes with tap water from.a dom.stic storage tank was the m.st likely source of infection since it was found to be contam.nated with cysts of Acantham.eba sp. The wom.n received eye drops of fluconazole and natam.cin(5%), cefazoline(50 m./m.L), atropine, and tablets of itraconazole(100 m.), which were later switched to eye drops of clotrim.zole(1%), natam.cin(5%) and voriconazole(1%), and tablets of itraconazole. A full thickness penetrating keratoplasty was perform.d followed by treatm.nt with eye drops of voriconazole(1%), natam.t(5%), ofloxacin, atropine and carboxym.thylcellulose for one ***: After treatm.nt, the condition of the patient significantly im.roved and was discharged one week after keratoplasty. Lessons: This is the first report of Acantham.eba keratitis in Nepal and the first report of coinfection with Fusarium.in this country and highlights the im.ortance of early diagnosis of m.crobial keratitis both in single m.croorganism.infections and coinfections, even in no contact lens wearers.
