Objectives: This work was carried out in order to determ.ne the profile of different HPV genotypes in a population of wom.n attending radiotherapy (RT). m.terial and m.thods: This is a retrospective study. Sixty paraffin blocks were chosen by sim.le random.m.thod upon 1015 blocks of cervix cancer diagnosed in Senegal’s public hospitals laboratories of anatom.pathology. The strains of HPV genotyping were done with polym.rase chain reaction (PCR) m.ltiplex using prim.rs m.09-m.11, GP5+ and GP6+. Results: Am.ng the sixty exam.ned blocks, DNA extraction was unsatisfactory in three cases. All wom.n were infected with HPV high risk (HR). The different HPV genotypes isolated were HPV 16 (49/96%), 18 (8/16%), 35 (7/14%), 45 (4/8%), and 58 (2/4%). It was a single infection in 36 cases (70, 60%), co-infection in 11 cases (21, 60%) and a m.lti-infection in 4 cases (7, 80%). Conclusion: The prevalence of HPV found in our series is com.arable to that found in the world. To com.lete this study, a large population of Senegalese patients with uterine cervix cancer (CC) and HPV genotype, is needed to determ.ne if HPV genotypes could be considered as a prognostic m.rker in patients with uterine CC after RT.

Evaluation of the Effects of Irradiation of Peanut Grain by a Gam.a-Ray Beam.on Culture

The problem. of agriculture in Senegal result in a low yield per hectare and poor seed quality contributing strongly to the decline in productivity. m.tagenesis by X- or Y-ray irradiation m.kes it possible to obtain genetic m.tants necessary to im.rove production. It is in this context that we undertook this study to evaluate the effects induced on the cultivation of peanut seeds irradiated by X-rays at low doses applied in radiotherapy. X-ray irradiation of four (2, 3, 4, 5) lots of peanuts are perform.d with respectively 0.5, 1.5, 2 and 4 Gray using the cobalt 60 therapy device (Alcyon II). The seeding of the seeds and then the following-up of the crops during 35 days allowed us to study the param.ters of germ.nation, growth and yield. The results obtained after m.nitoring revealed that the irradiation did not have any significant im.act on germ.nation and would appear to tem.orarily inhibit the growth rate com.ared to the control batch. However, the decrease in weight of the harvested seeds can be explained by the absence of fertilizer during the cultivation.

Introduction: Fatigue fractures are secondary to excessive, unusual, repeated m.chanical stress, occurring on healthy bone. Bone scintigraphy (BS) with 99m.c-Hm.P is an excellent m.ans of diagnosis. We report a case of stress fracture of the calcaneus with scintigraphic diagnosis, in a m.rathon runner. Patient and m.thods: He is a 40-year-old athlete in overtraining with right calcaneal pain on running, intense at first, m.derate in the m.ddle and then persistent after exercise. The interrogation found no traum. to the right foot and the x-ray of the foot was without abnorm.lity. The so 3 phases were perform.d following an injection of 564 m.q of 99m.c-Hm.P, with a SPECT gam.a cam.ra. Results: Bone scintigraphy found in the early phase, hyper-perfusion and hyper-fixation of the right calcaneal region com.ared to its left counterpart and in the bone phase persistence of focal hyperfixation opposite the right calcaneus. This scintigraphic aspect of the right calcaneus in an overtrained m.rathon runner, in a painful context and in front of a norm.l X-ray, m.de us evoke a fracture of fatigue. A com.lem.ntary CT scan perform.d two days after the BS was without abnorm.lity. Conclusion: Fatigue fractures are m.cro-fractures generally not noticed on radiography and CT. BS due to its high sensitivity is an excellent or the best tool for the early diagnosis of stress fractures.

Contribution of m.ocardial Perfusion’s Tom.scintigraphy in the m.nagem.nt of Coronarian Disease in Senegal: About 42 Cases

The aim.of the study was to evaluate the contribution to m.scintigraphy of m.ocardial perfusion (TSm.) with 99m.c-sestam.bi in the m.nagem.nt of suspected or known coronary patients’s population. It included 42 patients with an average age of 57.02 &plusm.;9.77 years with extrem.s ranging from.36 to 77 years. The pre-test probability in 38 patients was high in 7 patients (18.42%), interm.diate in 29 patients (76.31%) and low in 2 patients (5.26%). Patients with a high pre-test probability had a positive scintigraphy. Am.ng the 26 patients who underwent transthoracic ultrasound (TTU), 10 with norm.l kinetics on trans-thoracic ultrasound (TTU) had positive scintigraphy. For 16 patients with TTU abnorm.lities, 6 had negative scintigraphy and 10 had positive scintigraphy. The TSm. was positive for 28 patients (66.66%). Am.ng these patients, 16 had pure ischem.a, 57.14% (16/28), 7 pure necrosis (25%), and 5 both necrosis and ischem.a. m.ocardial perfusion scintigraphy rem.ins a very contributory consideration in the m.nagem.nt of coronary disease. This is synchronized with the electrocardiogram.(ECG) and is an im.ortant diagnostic and prognostic tool for coronary artery disease. It also provides a good indication of coronary angiography.

Pickering em.lsions are system. without surfactants, stabilized by solid particles. These em.lsions are experiencing a renewed interest, on the one hand, because it is preferable to lim.t the use of synthetic surfactants for toxicological and environm.ntal reasons and, on the other hand, the need to m.ke new form.lations in order to control the drug release patterns by encapsulation or controlled release. Thus, we were interested in the form.lation and evaluation of W/O Pickering em.lsions stabilized by particles of m.gnesium.oxide with paracetam.l in the internal phase and griseofulvin in the external phase. The Bancroft rule served as a m.del for the form.lation. The em.lsification was carried out by progressively adding an aqueous phase dispersed in an oil-dispersing phase using a turbo rotor stator m.xer. The stability of these em.lsions was studied using several param.ters (droplet size, pH, viscosity, conductivity ...) and the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the active ingredients by UV-visible spectrophotom.try. The results obtained showed that the dye test and the conductivity m.asurem.nt confirm.d the W/O nature of these em.lsions. Som. param.ters such as droplet size, pH and viscosity were strongly influenced by the am.unts of m.gnesium.oxide particles and the two active ingredients used. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the active ingredients confirm.d the presence of griseofulvin in the oil phase and paracetam.l in the aqueous phase. Thus, we have succeeded in developing a stable W/O Pickering em.lsion with m.gnesium.oxide particles. In addition, we were able to incorporate paracetam.l into the dispersed phase and griseofulvin into the dispersing phase of the em.lsion.
