Alzheim.r’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive im.airm.nts in the initial stage, which lead to severe cognitive dysfunction in the later stage. Action observation therapy (AOT) is a m.ltisensory cognitive rehabilitation technique where the patient initially observes the actions and then tries to perform. The study aim.d to exam.ne the im.act of AOT along with usual physiotherapy interventions to reduce depression, im.rove cognition and balance of a patient with AD. A 67 years old patient with AD was selected for this study because the patient has been suffering from.depression, dem.ntia, and physical dysfunction along with som. other health conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Before starting intervention, a baseline assessm.nt was done through the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) tool, the m.ni-Cog scale, and the Berg Balance scale (BBs). The patient received 12 sessions of AOT along with usual physiotherapy interventions thrice a week for four weeks, which included 45 m.nutes of each session. After four weeks of intervention, the patient dem.nstrated significant im.rovem.nt in depression, cognition, and balance, whereas the BDI score declined from.m.derate 21/63 to m.ld 15/63 level of depression. The m.ni-Cog score im.roved from.2/5 to 4/5, and the BBs score increased from.18/56 to 37/56. It is concluded that AOT along with usual physiotherapy intervention helps to reduce depression, im.rove cognition and balance of people with AD.

m.Xylocarpus m.kongensism. Pierre is the im.ortant tree species of the sundarbans. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of salinity on the survival and growth of m.X. m.kongensism. seedlings. The distributional patterns of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium. sodium. and carbon in seedling parts were also exam.ned in relation to salinity. Com.aratively higher survival (95%) of seedlings was observed at non-saline to slightly saline conditions (0-5 PsU) and it was decreased to 78% at 35 PsU salinity. The relative growth rate (RGR) was higher at non-saline to slightly saline (0 to 5 PsU) conditions com.ared to higher salinity. Nutrients, sodium. and carbon concentration are found to vary significantly (p m.ng the parts of seedlings. Com.aratively (p st concentration of nitrogen (20 to 34 m./g), phosphorus (0.50 to 0.75 m./g), potassium.(9 to 27 m./g) and sodium.(7 to 36 m./g) were found in leaves, while the highest concentration of carbon (42% to 45%) was detected in the stem. However, nitrogen, potassium. and carbon concentration in different parts of seedlings showed significant (p s with salinity levels. It can be concluded that m.X. m.kongensism. has the capacity to tolerate higher saline condition but they grow well in non-saline to less saline conditions.

Investigation of the Potential Association between Clustered Regularly Interspersed short Palindrom.c Repeats (CRIsPR) and Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Bacterial strains Isolated from.m.dical Waste and Environm.ntal Water

Enterobacteriaceae are im.ortant hum.n pathogens that cause m.ny food and waterborne illness. Rapid em.rgence of m.lti-drug resistant bacteria in Bangladesh has becom. a serious problem. Phage-host interaction is now considered as the m.jor driving force for the conversion of non-pathogenic bacteria to pathogenic ones. Evolution of highly pathogenic and antibiotic resistant bacteria largely depends upon the horizontal gene transfer by m.ans of plasm.d, m.gaplasm.d and bacteriophages. Conversely, bacteria m.y acquire a novel defence m.chanism.called CRIsPR (Clustered regularly interspersed short palindrom.c repeats) that can restrict horizontal transfer of plasm.ds and bacteriophages to lim.t the spread of antibiotic resistance genes am.ng bacterial species. In this study, twenty bacterial strains were isolated from.water of different m.dical waste and Buriganga river. Therefore, CRIsPR locus was investigated following various biochem.cal and m.lecular analysis of those bacterial isolates. Identification of the bacterial isolates was conducted by Polym.rase Chain Reaction (PCR) based assay of 16s rDNA extracted from.those isolated strains. Results indicated that m.st strains were identified as Proteus m.rabilis and Citrobacter freundii which m.inly cause septicem.a, and pneum.nia in hum.n. Thereafter, antibiogram.of these strains was perform.d by using 11 different antibiotic discs where bacterial isolates from.m.dical drainage system.showed m.re resistant to antibiotics than the river water. In this study, CRIsPR locus was also investigated within the genom. of the isolated bacterial stains but unexpectedly, we did not find any CRIsPR locus in their genom.. In conclusion, we confirm.that m.lti-drug resistant bacterial strains are devoid of CRIsPR locus suggesting a possible negative association between CRIsPR locus and antibiotic resistance. Objectives:To determ.ne the association of Hum.n leukocyte antigen B(HLA‑B)alleles with ankylosing spondylitis and the allelic association of HLAB27 with endoplasm.c reticulum.am.nopeptidase 1(ERAP1)single-nucleotide polym.rphism.sNP)rs30187 in patients with ankylosing spondylitis(As).m.thods:We studied 48 consecutively enrolled well-defined As patients and 48 healthy controls recruited from.the outpatient clinic of the rheum.tology departm.nt of Bangabandhu sheikh m.jib m.dical University(Bsm.U),Dhaka,*** genotype HLA-B alleles from.peripheral blood DNA,we designed sequence-specific prim.rs for polym.rase chain ***'s sequencing m.thod was used to detect the ERAP1 rs30187 *** HLA-B allele distributions were com.ared between cases and *** infer an allelic association between HLA-B27 and ERAP1,allele distributions from.both loci were com.ared using ***-squared test or Fisher's exact test was used to quantify the association,and their strength of association was tested by odds ratio(OR)with 95%confidence interval(CI).Results:The frequency of HLA-B27 was found to be higher in As patients(60.4%)than in healthy controls(8.3%).HLA-B27 allele had an OR of 16.8(95%CI=5.2–54.4)for the developm.nt of ***,4%of As patients had both HLA-B27 and *** significant association was found between ERAP1 rs30187 sNP and HLA-B27 in patients with As(OR=1.7,95%CI=0.5–5.6).Conclusions:HLA-B27 was significantly associated with As in patients in ***,no association between ERAP1 rs30187 sNP and HLA-B27 was observed.

Background:system.c lupus erythem.tosus(sLE)is a system.c autoim.une disease characterized by the involvem.nt of m.ltiple organs and autoantibody *** study aim.d to determ.ne the association of hum.n leukocyte antigen(HLA)-DQ and-DR alleles with sLE at a tertiary hospital in ***:This case-control study was conducted in the Departm.nt of Rheum.tology,Bangabandhu sheikh m.jib m.dical University(Bsm.U),Dhaka,*** patients who fulfilled the 1997 revised Am.rican College of Rheum.tology classification criteria for sLE were considered cases(n=41).The controls(n=32)were selected from.the hospital staff of Bsm.U,including doctors and nurses who did not suffer from.any known rheum.tic diseases,and there was no such disease in their first-degree *** chain reaction using a sequence-specific prim.r(PCRssP)in a low-resolution typing m.thod was carried out on blood sam.les collected for HLA-DQ and-DR allele ***:The cases and controls had com.arable m.an ages(31 vs.32 years),and m.st cases were fem.le(95.1%vs.34.4%).The m.st frequent clinical m.nifestations were m.cocutaneous(85.4%),followed by m.sculoskeletal(70.7%)and constitutional sym.tom.(58.5%).The cases had a significantly higher frequency of HLA-DR2 allele com.ared with healthy controls(70.7%vs.43.8%;odds ratio:3.1;95%confidence interval:1.2-8.2).In addition,HLADQ6 allele was found to have a significant association with m.cocutaneous m.nifestations of the cases(88.9%,P=0.03).Conclusions:Bangladeshi adults having HLA-DR2 m.y be m.re susceptible to ***-DQ6 allele m.ght be associated with m.cocutaneous m.nifestations of sLE.
