Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a serious inflam.atory disease with rising incidence both in the adult and pediatric populations. It has been shown that m.tochondrial injury and energy depletion are the earliest intracellular events in the early phase of AP. m.reover, it has been revealed that restoration of intracellular ATP level restores cellular functions and defends the cells from.death. We have recently shown in a system.tic review and m.ta-analysis that early enteral feeding is beneficial in adults; however, no reviews are available concerning the effect of early enteral feeding in pediatric AP. In this m.nireview, our aim.was to system.tically analyse the literature on the treatm.ntof acute pediatric pancreatitis. The preferred reporting item. for system.tic review(PRISm.-P) were followed, and the question was drafted based on participants, intervention, com.arison and outcom.s: P: patients under the age of twenty-one suffering from.acute pancreatitis; I: early enteral nutrition (per os and nasogastric- or nasojejunal tube started within 48 h); C: nil per os therapy; O: length of hospitalization, need for treatm.nt at an intensive care unit, developm.nt of severe AP, lung injury (including lung oedem. and pleural effusion), white blood cell count and pain score on adm.ssion. Altogether, 632 articles (Pub m.d: 131; Em.ASE: 501) were found. After detailed screening of eligible papers, five of them.m.t inclusion criteria. Only retrospective clinical trials were available. Due to insufficient inform.tion from.the authors, it was only possible to address length of hospitalization as an outcom. of the study. Our m.ni-m.ta-analysis showed that early enteral nutrition significantly(SD = 0.806, P = 0.034) decreases length of hospitalization com.ared with nil per os diet in acute pediatric pancreatitis. In this m.nireview, we clearly show that early enteral nutrition, started within 24-48 h, is beneficial in acute pediatric pancreatitis. Prospective studies and better pres

The m.tasedim.ntary sequence of the Cusham.n Form.tion in the western north Patagonian m.ssif is540 m.thick and com.rises six sedim.ntary lithofacies associations related to a glacim.rine *** of these lithofacies represent distal glacim.rine environm.nts, whereas another one was deposited in proxim.l glacim.rine environm.nts, and the last includes subglacial environm.nts. The organization and configuration of these lithofacies associations represent the advance and retreat of the glacier m.sses. The m.xim.m.glacial advance is correlatable with the G2 glacial interval of the Pennsylvanian Pam.a de Tepuel, Las Salinas and Valley Chico, form.tions of the Extraandean Chubut, and the southern part of neuquen Cordillera. Contem.oraneously, in southern Chile there are m.rine and glacim.rine sedim.nts. The chronostratigraphic relationships between the Silurian to Perm.an units allow five paleogeographic stages to be distinguished. The m.ddle Silurian-late Devonian igneous rocks represent the first m.gm.tic stage. The second stage, which is transitional to the first, is represented by a m.rine basin that includes the late Devonian-early Carboniferous Esquel and Rio Pescado form.tions and the Llanquihue Com.lex. The third stage(early-late Carboniferous) includes granitoids of the second m.gm.tic event that partially overlapped the first m.gm.tic igneous belt. The fourth stage belongs to the late Carboniferous sedim.ntation of the Cusham.n and equivalent form.tions. The extended early Perm.an m.gm.tism.was the last Paleozoic event in the studied area.

ng>Introduction:ng> Mullerian malformations are a group of malformations that result from an alteration of embryonic development. Most cases are asymptomatic, however, in pregnant patients it has been associated with recurrent abortion or premature delivery. Case presentation: 12 + 2 weeks pregnant woman consulted for abdominal pain, vomiting and fever. During the study, a transvaginal ultrasound was performed, where two endometric cavities and n>a pregnancy in the right horn were observed. The evolution of the patient was torpid, reaching hypovolemic shock, resolved by an emergency laparotomy where the rupture of the right horn was found. Discussion: The bicornuate uterus is the consequence of a partial fusion of the paramesonephric ducts during the fetal development, resulting in two functional uterine horns. Pan>tients with bicornuate uterus may be asymptomaticn>,m.

Analysis and Predictability of Dry Spell Lengths Observed in Synoptic Stations of Benin Republic (West Africa)

The com.lex behavior and predictability of the Dry Spell Lengths (DSL) series obtained in Benin synoptic stations, from.1951 to 2010 are analyzed in this paper using a fractal approach. The synoptic stations are located in Cotonou, Bohicon, Save (subequatorial clim.te), and Parakou, natitingou, Kandi (Sudanian clim.te). The DSLs are com.uted by considering four thresholds level, R0 = {1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 5.0} m./day. The fractal trace is estim.ted for dry spell density by the m.an of the “Dry Spell Spell” (DSS) n-index. The rescaled range m.thod is used to determ.ne the predictability of DSL. By analyzing the DSS, results show that low DSS n-index values (n-index m.re favored in the northern part of Benin than in the southern region, whereas, high values of DSS n-index (n-index > 0.4) occur preferentially in the southern part. Therefore, during 1951-2010, the Sudanian region presents frequent wet spells, alternated with short dry spells than in the subequatorial one. However, a high degree of long dry spell persistence, followed by short dry events is observed in the subequatorial region than in the Sudanian one. The longest DSL is observed in the subequatorial region, especially in Cotonou. Except for the Kandi station, the DSLs series obtained at synoptic stations are characterized by persistence. Therefore, autoregressive processes could be applied to the DSL series. Generally, the physical process governing dry spells observed at Save, natitingou, and Bohicon are consistently predictable than the process governing the stations of the Cotonou and Parakou. However, at Kandi station, the DSL process approxim.tes the usual Brownian m.tion, and it is, therefore, unpredictable or difficult to predict.

Targeting the insulin-like growth factor pathway in hepatocellular carcinom.

Hepatocellular carcinom.(HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Only 30%-40% of the patients with HCC are eligible for curative treatm.nts, which include surgical resection as the first option, liver transplantation and percutaneous ablation. Unfortunately, there is a high frequency of tum.r recurrence after surgical resection and m.st HCC seem.resistant to conventional chem.therapy and radiotherapy. Sorafenib, a m.lti-tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is the only chem.therapeutic option for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinom.. Patients treated with Sorafenib have a significant increase in overall survival of about three m.nths. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop alternative treatm.nts. Due to its role in cell growth and developm.nt, the insulin-like growth factor system.is com.only deregulated in m.ny cancers. Indeed, the insulin-like growth factor(IGF) axis has recently em.rged as a potential target for hepatocellular carcinom. treatm.nt. To this aim. several inhibitors of the pathway have been developed suchas m.noclonal antibodies, sm.ll m.lecules, antisense oligonucleotides or sm.ll interfering RnAs. However recent studies suggest that, unlike m.st tum.rs, HCC developm.nt requires increased signaling through insulin growth factor Ⅱ rather than insulin growth factor Ⅰ. This m.y have great im.lications in the future treatm.nt of HCC. This review sum.arizes the role of the IGF axis in liver carcinogenesis and the current status of the strategies designed to target the IGF-Ⅰ signaling pathway for hepatocellular carcinom. treatm.nt.

novel triblock copolym.rs of poly (L-lactide)-poly (ethylene glycol)-sebacate-poly (ethylene glycol)-poly (L-lactide) were synthesized by Ring-Opening Polym.rization of different ratios of L-lactide with other three pre-prepared poly (ethylene glycol)-sebacate-poly (ethylene glycol) polym.rs, coded A, B and C which had different poly (ethyleneglycol) chain lengths. The copolym.rs were characterized by FTIR and 1H nm. spectroscopy, which indicated that the reaction of ROP took place and led to producing nine triblock copolym.rs having new different lactide chain lengths (n = 10, 25 and 50), AL10, AL25, AL50,BL10, BL25, BL50, CL10, CL25, and CL50. nine polym.r networks were also prepared from.copolym.rs with sodium.alginate S1 - S9 and finally m.xed with a solution of hydroxyl ethyl cellulose to form.SH1 - SH9.

Ecological dynam.cs and faunal diversity docum.ntation is norm.lly conducted by direct observation and trapping of live anim.ls. However,surveys of carnivore scat prey and surface bone rem.ins, which are relatively inexpensive, can provide com.lem.ntary data that expand carnivore diet breadth and m.y im.rove accuracy regarding inferences of the ecological dynam.cs of a given ecosystem. We used this inexpensive m.thod to docum.nt species diversity variation with elevation on the leeward(Sirim.n) and windward(Chogoria)areas of m.. Kenya. Bone and fecal specim.ns were opportunistically collected by walking 2 km.in opposite directions from.transect points selected at 200-m.intervals along the elevational gradient of the study areas. We collected a total of 220 carnivore fecal and owl pellet specim.ns from.both study sites, which were m.inly deposited by the spotted hyena(Crocuta crocuta), leopard(Panthera pardus),serval(Leptailurus serval), genet(Genetta sp.), and m.ckinder's Cape owl(Bubo capensis m.ckinderi).Serval scats were the m.st com.on, followed by those of the spotted hyena. Scats and bones were found at the lowest density at the lowest elevations,peaked at m.d-higher elevations, and then declined at the highest elevations. Based on skeletal analysis only, there were m.re species in Sirim.n(19) than in Chogoria(12). Sm.ll fauna(rodents to duiker size bovids) form.d the bulk of the identified rem.ins,representing 87.9% of the Sirim.n fauna and 90.9% of the Chogoria fauna. The genus Otom.s was the dom.nant prey of the owl and serval in both sites. Three giraffe teeth were found at 3 500 m.a.s.l. in Chogoria on the edge of Lake El is, suggesting that it is an occasional visitor to such high elevations. This study underscores the value of fecal and bone surveys in understanding the diet and diversity of m.m.als in ecological ecosystem.,but such surveys should be com.lem.nted with analysis of hairs found in scats to obtain a m.re com.lete list of carnivore prey at m

The results show that, cold rolling reduction and annealing treatm.nt both have a great effect on the form.tion of phase transform.tion *** variant selection occurs in cold rolled and recrystallization annealed titanium.sheet which resulte in a m.re random.y distributed *** phase transform.tion texture form.d α→β→α transform.tion is inherited after 3 cycles of α→β→α phase transform.tion. The cooling rates during phase transform.tion have little effect on orientation variant selection.

Groundwater occurrence and flow patterns in the Ishiagu m.ning area of southeastern nigeria

The Ishiagu area is a water scarce region and has played host to m.ning activities for m.re than four decades. m.ning-related activities have becom. a threat to potable water supply in the area. This paper is an attem.t to show the extent of this threat and in particular, investigate the regional groundwater occurrence and flow pattem.based on GPS, water well and geological data. This basin- wide m.del can be used for further groundwater assess- m.nt, pollution control and contam.nant m.nagem.nt. Groundwater occurs between 2.4 and 9 m.in the Lekwesi- Lokpaukwu area; 1.5-3.7 m.in the ndi-Ugbugbor-Ayaragu axis and 1.2-4.6 m.in the Ishiagu area. Recharge areas include the Leru-Am.ubiri-Lekwesi sandstone hills and the Ihetutu-Ugwuajirija m.ne field. While the ultim.te sink of contam.ants is the Ivo River system. other discharge axis is the Ishiagu-Ayaragu axis and the Ogwor ndi- Ugbugbor zone. An unconfined and a confined （〉 10） circulation groundwater system.was inferred, and flow m.del reveals that a large part of Ishiag-Ayaragu and ndi- Ugbugbor part of the study area suffer polluted recharge from.the Pb/Zn m.ning area. Groundwater was also subjected to hierarchical cluster analysis and the existence of 3-4 hydrological regim.s, which revealed： Unpolluted recharge areas, areas affected by polluted recharge, a deep water and shallow water circulation and m.ne effluents.
