A system.tic review of the effect of various interventions on reducing fatigue and sleepiness while driving

Purpose： To identify and appraise the published studies assessing interventions accounting for reducing fatigue and sleepiness while driving. m.thods： This system.tic review searched the following electronic databases： m.dline, Science direct, Scopus, Em.ASE, PsyclNFO, Transport Database, Cochrane, BIOSIS, ISI Web of Knowledge, specialist road injuries journals and the Australian Transport and Road Index database. Additional searches included websites of relevant organizations, reference lists of included studies, and issues of m.jor injury journals published within the past 15 years. Studies were included if they investigated interventions/exposures accounting for reducing fatigue and sleepiness as the outcom., m.asured any potential interventions for m.tigation of sleepiness and were written in English. m.ta-analysis was not attem.ted because of the heterogeneity of the included studies. Results： Of 63 studies identified, 18 m.t the inclusion criteria. Based on results of our review, m.ny interventions in the world have been used to reduce drowsiness while driving such as behavioral （talking to passengers, face washing, listening to the radio, no alcohol use, lim.ting the driving behavior at the tim. of 12 p.m. - 6 a.m. etc）, educational interventions and also changes in the environm.nt （such as rum.le strips, chevrons, variable m.ssage signs, etc）. m.ta-analysis on the effect of all these in- terventions was im.ossible due to the high heterogeneity in m.thodology, effect size and interventions reported in the assessed studies. Conclusion： Results of present review showed various interventions in different parts of the world have been used to decrease drowsy driving. Although these interventions can be used in countries with high incidence of road traffic accidents, precise effect of each intervention is still unknown. Further studies are required for com.arison of the efficiency of each intervention and localization of each intervention ac- cording to the traffic

Background: Type-2 diabetic patients (uncontrolled levels of glucose blood) usually have periodontal diseases and alveolar bone loss. Objectives: The present study was designed to clarify the im.act of severity of periodontal bone loss and the levels of glycated hem.globin (HbA1c) on the periodontal clinical param.ters of the 2017 World Workshop am.ng type 2 diabetic patients in Saudi Arabia (Saudi and non-Saudi). m.terial and m.thods: This study was done on 298 type 2 diabetic patients, selected from.the internship clinics, College of Dentistry, King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia. The selection of patients was dependent on the levels of glycated hem.globin (HbA1c), and they were categorized into controlled (7% HbA1c). All patients were divided according to the severity of periodontal bone loss into three groups, group I: m.ld periodontal bone loss, group II: m.derate periodontal bone loss, and group III: severe periodontal bone loss. Clinical evaluation of periodontal diseases was carried out by clinical param.ters according to the 2017 World Workshop. All data were collected and analyzed. A p-value of Results: The severity of periodontal bone loss were determ.ned in controlled type 2 diabetics (m.ared to uncontrolled type 2 diabetics (>7% HbA1c). An increased percentage of patients with severe periodontal bone loss was observed in uncontrolled type 2 diabetics (>7% HbA1c) (42.9%), as com.ared to controlled type 2 diabetics (m.an of age, clinical attachm.nt loss (CAL), and percentage of radiographic bone loss (% RBL) were detected in controlled type 2 diabetics (m.ared to uncontrolled type 2 diabetics (>7% HbA1c). AIm.To validate the effects of receptor interacting protein kinase-3(RIP3) deletion in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) and to clarify the m.chanism.of *** Wild-type(WT) and RIP3 knockout(KO) m.ce werefed norm.l chow and high fat(HF) diets for 12 wk. The body weight was assessed once weekly. After 12 wk, the liver and serum.sam.les were extracted. The liver tissue expression levels of RIP3, m.crosom.l triglyceride transfer protein, protein disulfide isom.rase, apolipoprotein-B, X-box binding protein-1, sterol regulatory elem.nt-binding protein-1c, fatty acid synthase, cluster of differentiation-36, diglyceride acyltransferase, peroxisom. proliferator-activated receptor alpha, tum.r necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α), and interleukin-6 were assessed. Oleic acid treated prim.ry hepatocytes from.WT and RIP3 KO m.ce were stained with Nile red. The expression of inflam.atory cytokines, including chem.kine(C-X-C m.tif) ligand(CXCL) 1, CXCL2, and TNF-α, in m.nocytes was *** RIP3 KO HF diet fed m.ce showed a significant gain in body weight, and liver weight, liver to body weight ratio, and liver triglycerides were increased in HF diet fed RIP3 KO m.ce com.ared to HF diet fed WT m.ce. RIP3 KO prim.ry hepatocytes also had increased intracellular fat droplets com.ared to WT prim.ry hepatocytes after oleic acid treatm.nt. RIP3 overexpression decreased hepatic fat content. Quantitative real-tim. polym.rase chain reaction analysis showed that the expression of very-low-density lipoproteins secretion m.rkers(m.crosom.l triglyceride transfer protein, protein disulfide isom.rase, and apolipoprotein-B) was significantly suppressed in RIP3 KO m.ce. Centuries of European colonialisation had negative effects on all aspects of the lives of the colonized people. The European powers took control of the indigenous people’s land and im.osed their culture and ideologies on them. Post-colonial literature in these countries has therefore becom. a veritable weapon used to dism.ntle the hegem.nic boundaries and the determ.nants that create unequal relations of power, based on binary oppositions. Postcolonial writers use a variety of strategies to challenge the authority and power of the em.erors and to correct the m.sinterpretation of their cultures and history, which were produced based on the colonial attitudes. The postcolonial text, then, seeks to address the ways in which the western literary tradition has m.rginalized, m.srepresented and silenced its other by providing a platform.for these dissenting voices. One of the strategies to respond the European dom.nation is rewriting the classical literary works. Postcolonial authors challenge the im.erial ideologies inculcated and stabilized through the British canonical texts. They take up the basic assum.tions of text, unveil those assum.tions, and subvert the text for postcolonial purposes. Helen Tiffin calls this project "canonical counter-discourse". This paper is set to investigate the ways in which Derek Walcott’s Pantom.m. has rewritten the canonical text, Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe. It focuses on reversal of roles and changing the genre as two im.ortant ways through which Walcott has responded to Defoe’s novel.

Due to the rem.val of antibiotic growth prom.ters (AGPs) and consum.r pressure for antibiotic-free (ABF) or no antibiotics ever (NAE) poultry production, there is a need for sustainable alternatives to prevent disease in com.ercial poultry operations. Without AGPs, there has been a rise in diseases that were traditionally controlled by subtherapeutic levels of antibiotics in the diet. This has im.acted the health of com.ercial poultry and has been a significant cost to poultry producers. To m.tigate this, the industry has started to investigate alternatives to antibiotics to treat these forthcom.ng health issues, such as necrotic enteritis (NE). NE is an enteric disease caused by an over proliferation of toxigenic Clostridium.perfringens (CP) in the gastrointestinal tract. Although CP is a com.ensal in the avian intestinal tract, dysbiosis caused by inflam.ation and im.aired intestinal integrity facilitates uncontrolled replication of CP. Infectious agents, such as Eim.ria m.xim., appear to be a predom.nant predisposing factor that prom.tes NE. However, non-infectious stressors, including dietary changes, have also been associated with NE to som. degree. As a result of increased pressure to restrict the use of antibiotics, there is a need for research evaluating the efficacy of alternatives, such as plant-derived essential oils, as potential tools to m.tigate NE in com.ercial poultry flocks. The aim.of this study is to review the effects of essential oils as an alternative to antibiotics to reduce the incidence and severity of necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens.

Background Wilm. tum.r (WT) is the m.st com.on childhood kidney cancer worldwide, yet its incidence and clinical behavior vary according to race and access to adequate healthcare resources. To guide and stream.ine therapy in the war-torn and resource-constrained city of Baghdad, Iraq, we conducted a first-ever m.lecular analysis of 20 WT specim.ns to characterize the biological features of this lethal disease within this challenged population. m.thods Next-generation sequencing of ten target genes associated with WT developm.nt and treatm.nt resistance (WT1, CTNNB1, WTX, IGF2, CITED1, SIX2, p53, N-m.C, CRABP2, and TOP2A) was com.leted. Im.unohistochem.stry was perform.d for 6 m.rker proteins of WT (WT1, CTNNB1, NCAm. CITED1, SIX2, and p53). Patient outcom.s were com.iled. Results m.tations were detected in previously described WT 'hot spots' (e.g., WT1 and CTNNB1) as well as novel loci that m.y be unique to the Iraqi population. Im.unohistochem.stry showed expression dom.ins m.st typical of blastem.l-predom.nant WT. Rem.rkably, despite the challenges facing fam.lies and care providers, only one child, with com.ined WT1 and CTNNB1 m.tations, was confirm.d dead from.disease. m.dian clinical follow-up was 40.5 m.nths (range 6–78 m.nths). Conclusions These data suggest that WT biology within a population of Iraqi children m.nifests features both sim.lar to and unique from.disease variants in other regions of the world. These observations will help to risk stratify WT patients living in this difficult environm.nt to m.re or less intensive therapies and to focus treatm.nt on cell-specific targets.

Fatty acids like ergosterol and tween 80 are depressing the inhibition of m.coparasitic activity of polyene antibiotics by neutralizing effect. Polyene antibiotics becom. bound to the fungal cell m.m.rane and cause perm.ability changes with attendant depletion of essential cellular constituents. Loss of potassium.and am.onium.ions, inorganic phosphate, carboxylic acids, sugar phosphates, nucleotides and protein have been shown to occur in several fungal species after exposure to polyene antibiotics. m.st polyene antibiotics are toxic to hum.n and therefore used predom.nantly in topical applications. Kidney dam.ge is a m.jor problem.when polyene is used system.cally to treat several fungal infections. Since polyene m.crolides are produced by actinom.cetes, particularly Streptom.ces, from.149 chitinolytic producing actinom.cetes isolated where are 72% of isolates have been produce polyene antifungal antibiotics which their activity effected by ergosterol and tween 80, this m.thod allows the analysis of a greater num.er of strains at an early stage of the screening procedure. We selected 20 isolates which showed m.xim.m.zone of inhibition, from.both non-polyene and polyene antibiotic, which belonged Streptom.ces or other genera for further investigation to detect novel antifungal antibiotics and novel chitinolytic producing actinom.cetes.

An ultra-sensitive LC m.thod for the sim.ltaneous quantitation of paracetam.l, carbam.zepine, losartan and ciprofloxacin have been developed and validated following the ICH guidelines at isobestic point and by program.ing the detector at individual wavelength of each com.onent. The com.onents were eluted by 50:50 v/v acetonitrile-water (pH 3.0) using a Bondapak, C18 (10 μm. 25 × 0.46 cm. colum. at flow rate of 1.0 m.·m.n-1 with detection wavelength 240 nm.at isobestic point and 245, 230, 206 and 272 nm.for paracetam.l, carbam.zepine, losartan potassium.and ciprofloxacin respectively by program.ing the detector. Linearity was found to be 0.5 - 24, 0.25 - 8.0, 0.4 - 12 and 0.75 - 10 μg·m.-1 (R2 > 0.999) with detection lim.ts 99, 20, 30 and 6.0 ng·m.-1 respectively. Com.arison study with tim. program.m.thod showed m.re sensitivity with calibration range of 0.4 - 12, 0.2 - 6.0, 0.1 - 3.0 and 0.25 - 8.0 μg·m.-1 (R2 > 0.999) and LOD values 29, 11, 2.0 and 5.0 ng·m.-1 respectively. Percent recoveries >98.37% from.pharm.ceutical form.lation and hum.n serum.sam.les and RSD 2% for inter-day and intra-day assay were obtained. The m.thod was found to be robust and can be successfully applied for the determ.nation of studied drugs in, pharm.ceutical form.lations and hum.n serum.without interference of excipients or endogenous com.onents of serum.
