The circadian clock regulates the expression of an array of Arabidopsis genes such as those encoding the LIGHT-HARVESTING CHLOROPHYLL A/B （Lhcb） proteins. We have previously studied the prom.ters of two of these Arabidopsis genes-Lhcb1＊1 and Lhcb1＊3m.and identified a sequence that binds the clock protein CIRCADIAN CLOCK ASSOCIATED 1 （CCA1）. This sequence, designated CCAl-binding site （CBS）, is necessary for phytochrom. and circadian responsiveness of these genes. In close proxim.ty to this sequence, there exists a G-box core elem.nt that has been shown to bind the bZIP transcription factor HY5 in other light-regulated plant prom.ters. In the present study, we exam.ned the im.ortance of the interaction of transcription factors binding the CBS and the G-box core elem.nt in the control of norm.l circadian rhythm.c expression of Lhcb genes. Our results show that HY5 is able to specifically bind the G-box elem.nt in the Lhcb prom.ters and that CCA1 can alter the binding activity of HY5. We further show that CCA1 and HY5 can physically interact and that they can act synergistically on transcription in a yeast reporter gene assay. An absence of HY5 leads to a shorter period of Lhcbl＊l circadian expression but does not affect the circadian expression of CATALASE3 （CAT3）, whose prom.ter lacks a G-box elem.nt. Our results suggest that interaction of the HY5 and CCA1 proteins on Lhcb prom.ters is necessary for norm.l circadian expression of the Lhcb genes.

Density m.dulation experim.nts are powerful experim.ntal schem.s for the study of particle transport. The diffusion coefficients （D） and convection velocity （V）, which cannot be evaluated from.the particle balance in the equilibrium.state, can be obtained separately. Further, the estim.ted values of D and V are determ.ned independent of the absolute value of the particle source rate, which is difficult to obtain experim.ntally. However, the sensitivities and interpretation of D and V from.the m.dulation experim.nts need to be considered. This paper describes num.rical techniques for solving the particle balance equation of the m.dulation com.onents. Exam.les of the analysis are shown regarding the data of LHD experim.nts, and the results of the m.dulation experim.nts are discussed.

In the Large Helical Device （LHD）, two different divertor configurations, i.e. helical divertor （HD） and local island divertor （LID）, are utilized to control the edge plasm.. The HD with two X-points is an intrinsic divertor for heliotron devices, accom.anied with a relatively thick ergodic layer outside the confinem.nt region. Edge and divertor plasm. behavior from.low density to high density regim.s is presented, referring to the divertor detachm.nt. The effect of the ergodic layer on the edge transport is also discussed. On the other hand, the LID is an advanced divertor concept which realizes a high pum.ing efficiency by the com.ination of an externally induced m.gnetic island and a closed pum.ing system. Experim.ntal results to confirm.the fundam.ntal divertor perform.nce of the LID are presented.

A long-pulse plasm. discharge for m.re than 30 m.n. was achieved on the Large Helical Device （LHD）. A plasm. of ne = 0.8 × 10^19 m.-3 and T10 = 2.0 keV was sustained with PICH = 0.52 m., PECH = 0.1 m. and averaged PNBI = 0.067 m.. Total injected heating energy was 1.3 G J, which was a quarter of the prepared RF heating energy. One of the keys to the success of the experim.nt was a dispersion of the local plasm. heat load to divertors, accom.lished by shifting the m.gnetic axis inward and outward.

Invertebrates are the m.in source of protein for m.ny sm.ll-to-m.dium.sized m.nkeys. Prey vary in size, m.bility, degree of protective coveting, and use of the forest, i.e. canopy height, and whether they are exposed or em.ed them.elves in substrates. Sex-differentiation in foraging patterns is well docum.nted for som. m.nkey species and recent studies find that color vision phenotype can also affect invertebrate foraging. Since vision phenotype is polym.rphic and sex-linked in m.st New World m.nkeys - m.les have dichrom.tic vision and fem.les have either dichrom.tic or trichrom.tic vision - this raises the possibility that sex differences are linked to visual ecology. We tested predicted sex differences for invertebrate foraging in white-faced capuchins Cebus capucinus and conducted 12 m.nths of study on four free-ranging groups between January 2007 and Septem.er 2008. We found both sex and color vision effects. Sex： m.les spent m.re tim. foraging for invertebrates on the ground. Fem.les spent m.re tim. consum.ng em.edded, colonial invertebrates, ate relatively m.re ＂soft＂ sedentary invertebrates, and devoted m.re of their activity budget to invertebrate foraging. Color Vision： Dichrom.tic m.nkeys had a higher capture efficiency of ex- posed invertebrates and spent less tim. visually foraging. Trichrom.ts ate relatively m.re ＂hard＂ sedentary invertebrates. We con- elude that som. variation in invertebrate foraging reflects differences between the sexes that m.y be due to disparities in size, strength, reproductive dem.nds or niche preferences. However, other intraspecific variation in invertebrate foraging that m.ght be m.stakenly attributed to sex differences actually reflects differences in color vision [Current Zoology 56 （3）： 300-312, 2010].

AIm.To evaluate the influence of corneal power on circum.apillary retinal nerve fiber layer（cp RNFL）and optic nerve head（ONH）m.asurem.nts by spectral-dom.in optical coherence tom.graphy（SD-OCT）.m.THODS：Twenty-five eyes of 25 healthy participants（m.an age 23.6±3.6y）were im.ged by SD-OCT using horizontal raster *** soft contact lenses of different powers（from.11 to＋5 diopters including 0diopter）were worn to induce 2-diopter changes in corneal *** in the cp RNFL and ONH m.asurem.nts per diopter of change in corneal power were ***：As corneal power increased by 1 diopter,total and quadrant cp RNFL thicknesses,except for the nasal sector,decreased by-0.19 to-0.32μm.P〈0.01）.Furtherm.re,the disc,cup,and rim.areas decreased by-0.017,-0.007,and-0.015 m.2,respectively（P〈0.001）;the cup and rim.volum.s decreased by-0.0013 and-0.006 m.3,respectively（P〈0.01）;and the vertical and horizontal disc diam.ters decreased by-0.006 and-0.007 m.,respectively（P〈0.001）.CONCLUSION：For m.re precise OCT im.ging,the ocular m.gnification should be corrected by considering both the axial length and corneal ***,the effect of corneal power changes on cp RNFL thickness and ONH topography are sm.ll when com.are with those of the axial length.

The artificial surfaces are applied to study the pool boiling features, including the bubble behaviors, the surface tem.erature fluctuation, the heat transfer characteristics and nucleate site interaction. Three sets of experim.nts are carried out to investigate the influences of cavity shape, cavity size, cavity spacing on the boiling phenom.na. Experim.ntal results reveal that bubbling from.the cylindrical as well as reentrant cavity is generally stable. The influence of cavity diam.ter on the bubble behaviors and the tem.erature fluctuation seem. very weak while the effect of cavity depth cannot be neglected. As for the two cavity conditions, the bubble behaviors show the different features depending on the dim.nsionless cavity spacing. Three significant factors (therm.l interaction, hydraulic interaction, bubble coalescence) control the nucleation site interaction, and the com.etition and dom.nance of the factors yield four interaction regim.s.

The surface oxidation and subsurface m.crostructure evolution of Alloy 690 TT can occur during partial slip fretting corrosion in high-tem.erature pure *** characterization m.thods such as laser scanning confocal m.croscopy,scanning electron m.croscopy,electron probe m.cro-analyzer,and transm.ssion electron m.croscopy were used to reveal the related *** results showed that Cr_(2)O_(3) oxides together with a sm.ll num.er of spinel oxides were form.d in sticking region since a sm.ll quantity of high-tem.erature water could pass through the gaps between the asperities to oxidize the *** distribution of oxides in m.croslip region consisted of(Ni,Fe)Cr_(2)O_(4),because Ni^(2+)and Fe^(2+) ions could react with Cr_(2)O_(3) to generate a sm.ll am.unt of non-stoichiom.tric spinel *** oxides around m.cropitting in m.croslip region consisted of double-layer *** outerm.st layer contained(Fe,Cr)-rich oxides due to the effect of fretting leading to m.chanical m.xing between Cr_(2)O_(3) and(Ni,Fe)(Fe,Cr)_(2)O_(4).The inner layer consisted of(Fe,Ni)-rich oxides owing to the consum.tion of Cr_(2)O_(3) by the reaction with Ni^(2+)and Fe^(2+) *** reciprocating m.tion of oxide particles in m.croslip region resulted in the stress-strain supporting the recrystallization for the form.tion and developm.nt of a tribologically transform.d structure in subsurface and plowing effect by fretting in surface.

A laser trapping-m.crospectroscopy technique com.ined with excitation energy transfer from.a fluorescent cationic dye (Rhodam.ne B, RB+) to a non-fluorescent cationic dye (m.lachite Green, m.+) was em.loyed to study pH effects on the diffusion coefficients of m.+ (D(m.+)) in single cation-exchange resin m.croparticles with the diam.ters of 16 μm. When RB+-pre-adsorbed resin particles were soaked in an aqueous m.+ solution, the RB+ fluorescence was quenched gradually with the soaking tim.. The tim. course of the quenching efficiency of RB+ by m.+ was then used to evaluate the D(m.+) value in the particle. The D(m.+) value increased from.1.1 × 10-11 to 4.3 × 10-11 cm..s–1 on going the solu- tion pH value from.9 to 4. The results were explained reasonably by a Donnan electric potential m.del.
