The horizontal to vertical spectral ratio(HVSr)m.thodology is used here to characterize pum.ce soils and to im.ge the three-dim.nsional surface geom.try of Guadalajara,*** to other latin Am.rican cities,Guadalajara is exposed to high seism.c risk,with the particularity of being the largest urban settlem.nt in latin Am.rica built on pum.ce *** has not yet been tested to characterize subsoil depths in pum.ce *** to the questionable use of traditional geotechnical tests for the analysis of pum.ce soils,HVSr provides an alternative for its characterization without altering its fragile and porous *** this work,resonance frequency(F0)and peak am.litude(A0)are used to constrain the depth of the m.jor im.edance contrast that represents the interface between bedrock and pum.ce *** were com.ared with borehole depths and other available geotechnical and geophysical data and show good *** of the profiles estim.ted on the riverbanks that cross the city,reveals different subsoil thickness that could have an im.act on different site responses on riverine areas to an eventual *** and academ.c efforts are com.ined in this work to characterize depth sedim.nts,an im.ortant param.ter that im.acts the regulations for construction in the city.

recent advancem.nts in the treatm.nt landscape of ulcerative colitis(UC)have ushered in a new era of possibilities,particularly with the introduction of Janus kinase(JAK)-signal transducer and activator of transcription *** novel agents offer a paradigm.shift in UC m.nagem.nt by targeting key signaling pathways involved in inflam.atory *** approved JAK inhibitors(JAKis),such as tofacitinib,filgotinib,and upadacitinib,clinicians now have powerful tools to m.dulate im.une responses and gene expression,potentially revolutionizing the treatm.nt algorithm.for *** trials have dem.nstrated the efficacy of JAKis in inducing and m.intaining rem.ssion,presenting viable options for patients who have failed conventional ***-world data support the use of JAKis not only as first-line treatm.nts but also in subsequent lines of therapy,particularly in patients with aggressive disease phenotypes or refractory to biologic *** rapid onset of action and potency of JAKis have broadened the possibilities in the m.nagem.nt strategies of UC,offering tim.ly relief for patients with active disease and facilitating personalized treatm.nt *** safety concerns,including cardiovascular risks and infections,ongoing research and post-m.rketing surveillance will continue to refine our understanding of the risk-benefit profile of JAKis in UC m.nagem.nt.

Distinct and Additive Effects of Alcohol and Thiam.ne Deficiency in the Developing Brain: relevance to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum.Disorder

Background: Neurodevelopm.ntal abnorm.lities in fetal alcohol spectrum.disorder (FASD) are linked to brain insulin resistance and oxidative stress. However, the role of thiam.ne deficiency as a distinct or additive factor in the pathogenesis of the neurodevelopm.ntal and m.tabolic derangem.nts in FASD has not been determ.ned. m.thods: Control and ethanol-exposed hum.n PNET2 cerebellar neuronal cells and rat cerebellar slice cultures were treated with vehicle or pyrithiam.ne (Pyr) to assess independent and additive effects of thiam.ne deficiency on ethanol-m.diated neurotoxicity, m.tochondrial dysfunction, insulin resistance, inhibition of neuronal and glial genes, and oxidative stress. results: Pyr treatm.nts (0 - 200 µm. caused dose-dependent cell loss (Crystal Violet assay) and reduced m.tochondrial function (m.T assay) in PNET2 neuronal cultures. Ethanol alone (100 m.) significantly reduced PNET2 neuronal viability, m.T activity, and ATP production. Over the broad dose range of Pyr treatm.nt, ethanol significantly reduced ATP content and cell num.er and increased m.tochondrial m.ss (m.toTracker Green). Ex vivo cerebellar slice culture studies revealed ethanol-induced developm.ntal architectural disruption that was substantially worsened by Pyr. The adverse effects of ethanol were linked to increased lipid peroxidation and inhibition of asparatyl-asparaginyl-β-hydroxylase (ASPH) expression. The independent and additive effects of Pyr were associated with increased cytotoxicity, lipid peroxidation, Caspase 3 activation, and Tau accum.lation. Conclusions: During developm.nt, alcohol exposure and thiam.ne deficiency exert distinct but overlapping m.lecular pathologies that ultim.tely im.air the structure and function of cerebellar neurons. While both insults drive cell loss and m.tochondrial dysfunction with increased lipid peroxidation, ethanol’s additional inhibitory effects on ASPH reflect im.airm.nts in insulin and IGF signaling. The glacial history of Pico de Orizaba indicates that during the last Glacial m.xim.m.its icecap covered up to~3000 m.asl;due to the air tem.erature increasing,its m.in glacier has retreated to 5050 m.*** retraction of the glacier has left behind an intense clim.tic instability that causes a high frequency of freeze-thaw cycles of great intensity;the resulting geom.rphological processes are represented by the fragm.ntation of the bedrock that occupies the upper parts of the *** is a notable lack of studies regarding the fragm.ntation and erosion occurring in tropical high m.untains,and the associated geom.rphological risks;for this reason,as a first stage of future continuous research,this study analyzes the freezing and thawing cycles that occur above 4000 m.asl,through continuous m.nitoring of surface ground *** results allow us to identify and characterize four zones:glacial,paraglacial,periglacial and *** was found that the paraglacial zone presents an intense drop of tem.erature,of up to~9℃ in only sixty *** rock fatigue and intense freeze-thaw cycles that occur in this area are responsible for the high rate of rock disintegration and represent the m.in factor of the constant slope dynam.cs that occur at the *** activity decreases,both in frequency and intensity,according to the distance to the glacier,which is where the tem.erature presents a certain degree of stability,until reaching the proglacial zone,where cycles are alm.st non-existent,and therefore there is no gelifraction *** geom.rphological processes have resulted in significant alterations to the m.untain slopes,which can have severe consequences in term. of risk and water.
