Assessm.nt of Endotoxin Rem.val from.Reclaim.d Wastewater Using Coagulation-Flocculation

Following biological treatm.nt, wastewater continues to have endotoxic active m.terials. However, because there is a trend of potable reuse and because endotoxic active m.terials potentially have harm.ul effects on hum.n health, their rem.val from.water is crucial. Lipopolysaccharide endotoxin has hydrophobic groups, and their rem.val using a coagulation-flocculation alternative is believed to be efficient. Thus, their rem.val from.reclaim.d wastewater using the coagulation-flocculation process was assessed. Secondary effluent sam.les from.a wastewater treatm.nt plant located in Sapporo, Japan, were investigated. It was found that this process gave satisfactory results in rem.ving endotoxins, with an optim.m.rem.val rate of up to 40.5%. The endotoxin rem.val was m.xim.zed by adjusting the pH at the low range 4 - 5.5, with an alum.num.sulfate dose of 80 m./L. Further increases of the coagulant dose did not im.rove the rem.val efficiency. DOC and turbidity rem.val were at their optim.m.at higher pH range 5.5 - 6.5. Thus coagulation and flocculation could be considered as the first barrier and should be followed by other treatm.nts to safely reuse reclaim.d wastewater.

PPLS: a privacy-preserving location-sharing schem. in m.bile online social networks

The recent proliferation of m.bile devices has given rise to m.bile online social networks(m.OSNs), an em.rging network paradigm.that uses social networks as its m.in design elem.nt. As one of the m.st critical com.onents in m.OSNs, location sharing plays an im.ortant role in helping users share inform.tion and strengthen their social bonds, which however m.y com.rom.se users’ privacy, including location inform.tion and social relationship details. To address these challenges, som. solutions have been proposed. However, none of them.considers the privacy of inter-user threshold distance, which effectively can be used to identify users, their friends, and location inform.tion, by m.licious or undesired elem.nts of the system. To overcom. this lim.tation, we propose a secure distance com.arison protocol. Furtherm.re,we present a privacy-preserving location-sharing schem.(PPLS), which allows users to build m.re com.lex access control policies. The safety of our schem. is validated by the security analysis and the experim.ntal results dem.nstrate the efficiency of PPLS schem..
