Carbon dioxide flooding is of interest due to its high oil-sweep efficiency for enhanced oil recovery and contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas ***,when CO_(2)is injected into deep geological strata,asphaltene m.y *** this work,the effect of al2O3 nanoparticles on the deposition of asphaltene was exam.ned by assessing the variations of bond num.er and interfacial tension at different pressures and a tem.erature of 6℃.The asphaltene onset point and intensity were characterized using the bond num.er,which proved a better indicator of changes in oil droplet shape and interfacial tension with *** m.xtures of toluene and n-heptane that contained two different kinds of asphaltenes were used as m.and D oil sam.les.A 0.06 m.ss%addition of al_(2)O_(3) nanoparticles,which worked best for reduction of interfacial tension,was also applied at various *** of nanoparticles to the oils prevented asphaltene precipitation in both synthetic sam.les by altering the slope of the plot of interfacial tension with pressure by 49.7% for the m.sam.le and 9.0%for the D *** al_(2)O_(3)nanoparticles were found to be m.re effective at inhibiting asphaltene precipitation for the m.oil sam.le due to its lower H/C ratio and higher nitrogen content.

Effect of inner oxidant on self-propagating high-tem.erature synthesis of m.Zn-ferrite powder

Using KClO3 as an inner oxidant, m.Zn-ferrite powder was synthesized by a self-propagating high-tem.erature synthesis (SHS) process in norm.l air atm.sphere. The effects of the inner oxidant on com.ustion tem.erature, com.ustion velocity, m.crostructure and the phase of the product were investigated by XRD and SEm.respectively. The results show that a highly ferritized powder can be obtained as well as the highest com.ustion tem.erature and the highest com.ustion velocity when the inner oxidant content m.equals 54(k-16).

Stainless steel binder for the developm.nt of novel TiC-reinforced steel cerm.ts

Steel reinforced TiC com.osites are an attractive choice for wear resistance and corrosion resistance applications. TiC- reinforced 17-4PH m.raging stainless m.trix com.osites were processed by conventional powder m.tallurgy （P/m.. TiC-reinforced m.raging stainless steel com.osites with 〉97% of theoretical density were fabricated. The m.crostructure, m.chanical and wear properties of the com.osites were evaluated. The m.crostructure of these com.osites consisted of spherical and sem.-spherical TiC particles. A few m.crocracks appeared in the com.osites, showing the presence of tensile stress in the com.osites produced during sintering. Typical properties, nam.ly, hardness and bend strength were reported for the sintered com.osites. After heat treatm.nt and aging, the increase of hardness was observed. The increase of hardness was attributed to the aging reaction in the 17-4PH stainless steel. The precipitates appeared in the m.crostructure and were responsible for the increase in hardness. The specific wear behavior of the com.osites was strongly dependent on the content of TiC particles, the interparticle spacing, and the presence of hard precipitates in the binder phase.

Influences of anionic and cationic dopants on the m.rphology and optical properties of PbS nanostructures

Selenium.and zinc are used as anionic and cationic dopant elem.nts to dope PbS nanostructures. The undoped and doped PbS nanostructures are grown using a therm.l evaporation m.thod. Scanning electron m.croscopy （SEm. results show sim.lar m.rphologies for the undoped and doped PbS nanostructures. X-ray diffraction （XRD） patterns of three sets of the nanostructures indicate that these nanostructures each have a PbS structure with a cubic phase. Evidence of dopant incorporation is dem.nstrated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）. Ram.n spectra of the synthesized sam.les con- firm.the XRD results and indicate five Ram.n active m.des, which relate to the PbS cubic phase for all the nanostructures. Room.tem.erature photolum.nescence （PL） and UV-Vis spectrom.ters are used to study optical properties of the undoped and doped PbS nanostructures. Optical characterization shows that em.ssion and absorption peaks are in the infrared （IR） region of the electrom.gnetic spectrum.for all PbS nanostructures. In addition, the optical studies of the doped PbS nanos- tructures reveal that the band gap of the Se-doped PbS is sm.ller, and the band gap of the Zn-doped PbS is bigger than the band gap of the undoped PbS nanostructures.

The location of exhaust air vents of an evaporative cooling system.can have significant effects on providing therm.l com.ort and controlling hum.dity, tem.erature and air distribution in buildings. In the current study, four different strategies have been evaluated for exhaust air vent locations to provide the optim.m.therm.l com.ort inside a typical residential house. This study provides a num.rical solution for tem.erature and relative hum.dity profiles in the residential house and within the living space in each room.typically at a height of 1.8 m.or less. By evaluating different exhaust air vent locations in a room. the best strategy(ies) to provide m.re appropriate therm.l com.ort condition and obtained and as a conclusion, the exhaust vents should be located on furthest wall away from.the entrance of the room.and in the m.ddle. The results provided in the current study can eventually be applied in the design of evaporative cooler exhaust vent system. in residential buildings and lead to im.rove the perform.nce of these system..

The Characteristic Relationship Between Oil Uptake and m.isture Content during the High Tem.erature Im.ersion Frying of Thin Potato Crisps

Auckland New ZealandThin potato crisps (2mm) were fried at 170℃ 180℃and 190℃for various times from 10s to 180s inclusive. It was found that definite oil uptake moisture loss trends exist during the frying process. No significant difference in the oil uptake or moisture loss rates between flat-cut and ridge-cut crisps exists. Also found in this study was that an increased oil temperature promoted higher moisture loss rates. In turn the higher moisture loss rates contributed to a higher oil uptake rate. It was found based on the volumetric plots of oil content vs. water content that the oil uptake rate was proportional to the moisture loss rate. As a result it has been shown that there is a possibility of having a characteristic curve of oil uptake against moisture content.

Thin potato crisps (2m.) were fried at 170℃, 180℃ and 190℃ for various tim.s from.10s to 180s inclusive. It was found that definite oil uptake, m.isture loss trends exist during the frying process. No significant difference in the oil uptake or m.isture loss rates between flat-cut and ridge-cut crisps exists. also found in this study was that an increased oil tem.erature prom.ted higher m.isture loss rates. In turn, the higher m.isture loss rates contributed to a higher oil uptake rate. It was found, based on the volum.tric plots of oil content vs. water content, that the oil uptake rate was proportional to the m.isture loss rate. As a result, it has been shown that there is a possibility of having a characteristic curve of oil uptake against m.isture content.

Diffuse optical spectroscopy is a relatively new,noninvasive and nonionizing technique for breast cancer *** the present study,we have introduced a novel handheld diffuse optical breast scan(DOB-Scan)probe to m.asure optical properties of the breast in vivo and create functional and com.ositional im.ges of the *** addition,the probe gives m.re inform.tion about breast tissue's constituents,which helps distinguish a healthy and cancerous *** sym.etrical light sources,each including four different wavelengths,are used to illum.nate the breast tissue.A high-resolution linear array detector m.asures the intensity of the back-scattered photons at different radial destinations from.the illum.nation sources on the surface of the breast tissue,and a unique im.ge reconstruction algorithm.is used to create four cross-sectional im.ges for four different *** from.iber optic-based illum.nation techniques,the proposed m.thod in this paper integrates m.lti-wavelength light-em.tting diodes to act as pencil beam.sources into a scattering m.dium.like breast *** unique design and its com.act structure reduce the com.lexity,size and cost of a potential *** the introduced technique m.niaturizes the probe,this study points to the reliability of this technique in the phantom.study and clinical breast *** have received ethical approval to test the DOB-Scan probe on patients and we are currently testing the DOB-Scan probe on subjects who are diagnosed with breast cancer.
