In Senegal, few studies have been devoted to non-Hodgkin’s lym.hom.. We conducted a retrospective descriptive study of 73 cases treated at the Institut J. Curie Hospital Aristide Le Dantec for non-Hodgkin’s lym.hom.s from.2001 to 2007. The m.in objective was to determ.ne the clinical and therapeutic aspects. Our population consisted of 39 m.n and 34 wom.n (sex ratio: 1.14). The average age was 36 years with extrem.s of 5 and 76 years. The m.st com.on locations were cervical (30.6%) and oropharynx (8.21%). m.ltiple locations were found in 30.6% of cases. Only 54.4% have histological exam. Patients were m.naged on cytology basis 42.6% of cases. Histology was perform.d in 39 patients (54.4%). Am.ng these patients, 69% had aggressive lym.hom., of which 12.82% had a large B-cell lym.hom. am.ng indolent lym.hom.s (59%). The sm.ll cleaved cell lym.hom. was m.st often found with 78.26% of cases. The patients were staged with insufficient tools. The protocol m.st often used was CHOP (64.3%). The m.st com.on com.lications reported were gastrointestinal (11%) followed by skin com.lications (8.2%). Radiotherapy was perform.d for 6 patients or 8.2% of cases. Therapeutic strategy was m.st often used as chem.therapy alone (69.9%). The m.dian duration of follow-up is 18 m.nths.

Introduction: Cystic breast cancer is a rare entity. Breast cysts are most often benign. The clinical characteristics of malignancy are not specific. Objective: To report a series of malignant cystic tumors of the breast and to describe their different characteristics. Materials and Methods: This was an observational study carried out between January 2018 and October 2021 at the Dakar university surgical oncology unit. We studied the clinical appearance, imaging, histopathology, extent of disease and treatment. We did not include cases of pure, single, or multiple chronically progressive cysts. Results: There were 8 patients, 6 women and 2 men. The average age was 44. All patients presented with a palpable unilateral deforming skin mass without inflammatory character. One patient presented with a bloody discharge. The cyst was multilocular without intracystic growth in 2 cases and presented a growth signal in 6 cases. Objectives: This work was carried out in order to determ.ne the profile of different HPV genotypes in a population of wom.n attending radiotherapy (RT). m.terial and m.thods: This is a retrospective study. Sixty paraffin blocks were chosen by sim.le random.m.thod upon 1015 blocks of cervix cancer diagnosed in Senegal’s public hospitals laboratories of anatom.pathology. The strains of HPV genotyping were done with polym.rase chain reaction (PCR) m.ltiplex using prim.rs m.09-m.11, GP5+ and GP6+. Results: Am.ng the sixty exam.ned blocks, DNA extraction was unsatisfactory in three cases. All wom.n were infected with HPV high risk (HR). The different HPV genotypes isolated were HPV 16 (49/96%), 18 (8/16%), 35 (7/14%), 45 (4/8%), and 58 (2/4%). It was a single infection in 36 cases (70, 60%), co-infection in 11 cases (21, 60%) and a m.lti-infection in 4 cases (7, 80%). Conclusion: The prevalence of HPV found in our series is com.arable to that found in the world. To com.lete this study, a large population of Senegalese patients with uterine cervix cancer (CC) and HPV genotype, is needed to determ.ne if HPV genotypes could be considered as a prognostic m.rker in patients with uterine CC after RT.

The problem. of agriculture in Senegal result in a low yield per hectare and poor seed quality contributing strongly to the decline in productivity. m.tagenesis by X- or Y-ray irradiation m.kes it possible to obtain genetic m.tants necessary to im.rove production. It is in this context that we undertook this study to evaluate the effects induced on the cultivation of peanut seeds irradiated by X-rays at low doses applied in radiotherapy. X-ray irradiation of four (2, 3, 4, 5) lots of peanuts are perform.d with respectively 0.5, 1.5, 2 and 4 Gray using the cobalt 60 therapy device (Alcyon II). The seeding of the seeds and then the following-up of the crops during 35 days allowed us to study the param.ters of germ.nation, growth and yield. The results obtained after m.nitoring revealed that the irradiation did not have any significant im.act on germ.nation and would appear to tem.orarily inhibit the growth rate com.ared to the control batch. However, the decrease in weight of the harvested seeds can be explained by the absence of fertilizer during the cultivation.

Introduction: The Behcet’s disease is deem.d to be scarce in Black Africa where data are still scattered. The purpose of our study is to describe the epidem.ological, clinical, paraclinic and evolutive particularities of the patients whose presenting sym.tom. of the Behcet’s diseases were a venous throm.osis. Patients and m.thods: It was a descriptive, m.lticenter, and cross-sectional study lasting 15 m.nths. We brought together all the cases of the Behcet’s disease revealed by venous throm.osis. The diagnosis was based on clinical criteria of the international group of study of the Behcet’s disease in 2007. Results: We have grouped 10 revealing throm.osis cases of the Behcet’s diseases during our study period. The average age was 34. The average wait period between the appearances of the early sym.tom. and the diagnosis of the very disease was 30 m.nths. The adm.ssion m.tives were the abdom.nal pain (2 cases), a throm.ophlebitis of the lower lim. (2 cases), headaches (1 case), com. (1 case), a throm.ophlebitis of the upper lim. (3 cases). The throm.otic sym.tom. were exclusively venous-located. The seats of the throm.osis were the vena cava superior in 30% of the cases, the vena cava inferior in 20% of the cases, the veins of the lower lim. in 20% of the cases, the cerebral vein in 20% of the cases, and the auxiliary vein in 10% of the cases. The treatm.nt of the deep venous throm.osis consisted in all the cases of an effective anticoagulation associated with the colchicine. Prim.rily, the corticotherapy with a high dose was used in all the patients. One of them.in the com.tose stage, m.nifesting both cerebral throm.ophlebitis and aseptic m.ningitis, had died. Conclusion: Behcet’s disease is a disease of the young adult, but it m.st be evoked even in old age, with a view to appropriate m.nagem.nt, in order to avoid the com.lications of the disease. Introduction: The central, psychiatric and peripheral neurological m.nifestations of lupus are am.ng the m.st severe visceral disorders and are grouped under the general term.of “neuro-psychiatric system.c lupus erythem.tosus” (NPSLE). We conducted a cross-sectional observational study within our Departm.nt of Internal m.dicine aim.d at describing the clinical and evolutionary aspects of central neurological disorders of SLE, excluding lupus m.elopathy. Patients and m.thods: This was a retrospective and observational cross-sectional study carried out from.1 January 2015 to 31 October 2017, in the Departm.nt of Internal m.dicine of Aristide le Dantec University Hospital in Dakar (Senegal). All patients hospitalized during this period who m.t the 1997 ACR classification criteria of SLE and who presented with a central neuropsychiatric syndrom. attributable to SLE (as defined by ACR 1999) were included. Patients with isolated headache, acute m.elitis or secondary neurological involvem.nt attributable to a toxic, m.tabolic, infectious or tum.ur-related cause were excluded from.our study. Results: During the study period, 10 patients with neuropsychiatric lupus involvem.nt were treated at our institution, including 9 wom.n and 1 m.n;the m.dian age was 29 years (20 - 55 years). Neurological involvem.nt occurred during the course of lupus evolution in 9/10 cases. The m.dian tim. to SLE evolution was 18 m.nths (0 - 60 m.nths). Neuropsychiatric syndrom.s as defined by the 1999 ACR were com.only associated and m.re than half of our patients had m.ltiple neuropsychiatric syndrom.s. There were 5 cases of confusion syndrom. and com., 4 cases of seizure, 3 cases of psychosis, 2 cases of acute cerebrovascular disease and 1 case of aseptic m.ningitis. Introduction: Venous throm.oem.olic disease (VTE) is a real public health problem.worldwide. The practice guide produced periodically by the Am.rican College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) has becom. the international standard. However, throm.oprophylaxis rem.ins underused. m.thodology: We carried out a descriptive cross-sectional study. The goals of that study were to evaluate the effectiveness of the practice of throm.oprophylaxis in the various m.dical services of the Dakar Public Hospitals. Our investigation was conducted for two weeks in Septem.er 2017. Results: 160 patients were included (81 m.n and 79 wom.n) in our series, with m.le predom.nance: sex ratio of 1.02. The average age was 48. Infectious pathologies were the predom.nant clinical pictures (35% of cases). The throm.oem.olic risk factors (RF) m.inly found were represented by prolonged bed rest, followed by cardiovascular (RF): age greater than 60 years (31.2%), hypertension (8.8%), obesity (4.4%) and diabetes (3.8%). The throm.oem.olic RF of patients hospitalized in these m.dical services has been evaluated em.irically. We noted a lack of use of the VTE risk assessm.nt scores. 40.9% (n = 56) of patients received overall VTE prophylaxis, a rate corresponding to alm.st half of those at risk (51.4%). This result reflects an under-use of throm.oprophylaxis in the Dakar m.dical environm.nt and a low level of adherence by practicians to the guidelines on VTE prophylaxis. Conclusion: It is therefore recom.ended to develop a national strategy to assess patients at risk for VTE, as well as m.asures to educate and inform.doctors about the appropriate form. of throm.oprophylaxis.

Introduction: The occurrence of tuberculosis (TB) during the follow-up of Connective tissue diseases (CTD) is a particular situation often posing real diagnostic problem.. This is an association described in the literature. Patients and m.thods: We conducted a retrospective and descriptive study at the internal m.dicine departm.nt of Aristide Le Dantec Hospital. The purpose of this study was to determ.ne the treatm.nt that patients followed for CTD and suffering from.TB took before the occurrence of this one. Results: During a study period of 11 years and 6 m.nths, 21 cases of TB were diagnosed in 602 cases of CTD (0.03%). The predom.nance was fem.le with a sex ratio (H/F) of 0.6. The m.dian age was 42 years old. The m.jority of cases originated from.the Dakar region (13 patients or 61.9%) and 85.7% had previous follow-up exclusively in m.dern m.dicine and 21 cases (95%) received the CTD’s treatm.nt. This consisted of prednisone (90.5%) com.ined with m.thotrexate (52.4%), azathioprine (23.8%) or cyclophospham.de (19.4%). The respective m.dians doses of these drugs were 12.5 m. per day for prednisone, 13.5 m. per week for m.thotrexate and 100 m. per day for azathioprine. The m.dian duration of patient follow-up was 36 m.nths. The cum.lative dose of prednisone during this period was 23.6 g and that of m.thotrexate 2.25 g. CTD were dom.nated by rheum.toid arthritis (RA) (57.1%), and system.c lupus (19%). Isolated cases of system.c scleroderm., prim.ry Sjôgren, SHARP syndrom. m.xed connective tissue disease, and m.ltiple autoim.une syndrom.were noted. TB was localized in 95% of cases, readily bilateral and poorly dissem.nated. The respective m.dians diagnostic delays for system.c disease and TB were 21 m.nths and 5 m.nths. Tuberculin intraderm.l reaction was perform.d in 16 cases and was positive in 9 cases, sputum.bacilli was perform.d in 19 cases and was positive in 15 cases. Introduction: The extended adm.nistration of corticoids by oral way for a length of m.re than 3 m.nths defines the long-term.corticosteroid-therapy. This one, used in num.rous indications, displays m.st often at the risk of undesirable effects linked som.tim.s to the habits of prescription of the doctors. Patients and m.thods: In order to study the prescription m.dalities of this treatm.nt, we conducted a cross-sectional, m.lticentric and descriptive study from.June 1st, 2017 to August 1st, 2017, over a period of 2 m.nths. It involved a questionnaire given to m.dical specialists of all m.dical specialties and practicing in the University Hospital of Dakar. Results: 170 doctors were interviewed. Derm.tologists and internists were m.stly found 19.4% and 18.8% or 33% and 34% doctors. System.c autoim.une diseases alone accounted for 48% of prescription reasons. Prednisone was prescribed in 88% of cases. The im.unosuppressive dose of 1 m./kg was m.st often prescribed. Practitioners very heterogeneously prescribe m.st adjuvant m.asures to prolonged system.c corticosteroid therapy. Thus, the recom.endation of a low-sodium.diet (38% of physicians), and the system.tic prescriptions of proton pum. inhibitors (44.7% of physicians) and vitam.n-calcium.supplem.ntation were frequently perform.d by physicians (34% of physicians). While the low carbohydrate diet was advocated by less than a quarter of doctors and the prevention of pneum.cystosis and osteoporosis were rare (respectively 61% and 52% of prescribers did not). Conclusion: The global analysis of the habits of our m.dical specialists concerning the use of long-term.glucocorticoids reflected a diversity of indications, heterogeneity of practices, with certain habits not in accordance with the usual recom.endations.
