A Retrospective Analysis of Intoxicated Patients Adm.tted to the Intensive Care Unit: A Single-Institution Assessm.nt in the Post-Pandem.c Period

Background: The aim.of this study was to evaluate the clinical and epidem.ological characteristics of patients with acute intoxication adm.tted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). m.terial and m.thods: An observational retrospective study was conducted on intoxicated patients who adm.tted to ICU between January 2022 and January 2024. Data were collected from.the patients m.dical records. The dem.graphic characteristics, causes of intoxications, clinical param.ters, the m.an stay in the ICU, treatm.nt m.dalities and prognosis were recorded. Results: A total of 2875 critically ill patients were adm.tted during the study period, and 109 (3.79%) of them.were acute intoxications. Their m.an of ages was 38.09 ± 12.29. The fem.le-to-m.le ratio was 1.37/1. Drugs were found to be the prim.ry cause (62.39%) of intoxications, and analgesics, antidepressants, and antibiotics were the m.st frequent agents. Suicidal attem.ts were present in 66 patients, m.st of them.were fem.le (62.13%) and between 17 - 24 years (40.91%). The other com.on causes of intoxications were carbon m.noxide (CO) (22.02%), m.thyl/ethyl alcohol (8.26%) and m.shroom.(5.50%). The m.an stay in the ICU was 2.69 ± 0.89 days. m.chanical ventilation was applied to 10 of our patients. Renal replacem.nt therapy was required in 6 patients. Despite all treatm.nts, 6 of our patients died, and we found the m.rtality rate to be 5.50%. Conclusion: Intoxications were m.re frequent in young fem.le patients and drugs were the m.st com.on cause with suicidal intent. Unfortunately, CO poisoning continues to be a very im.ortant problem.in our city. These findings provided significant inform.tion about the characteristics of intoxications in Karabuk.

Structural-Adaptation Features of Assim.lation Organs of the Species Salsola incanescens cam. in Conditions of Kyzylkum

The article presents the results of the m.rpho-anatom.cal structure of the assim.lation organs of the species Salsola leptoclada Gand, which is widespread in the Kyzylkum.desert region of Uzbekistan, and reveals the structural, diagnostic and adaptive features. In the assim.lation organs, Kranz type of m.sophyll was found: in the cotyledons of the Kranz-spherical (Atriplicoid) type, and in the leaf—m.sophylls of the Kranz-centric (Salsoloid) and Kranz-ventrodorsal type. These revealed diagnostic features of the assim.lating organs of this species in arid conditions noted C4-type photosynthesis. Based on the com.arative biom.tric analysis of quantitative indices of the anatom.cal features of the assim.lating organs, xero-halom.rphic features predom.nate. Halom.rphic features are in the cotyledons—thin outer walls of the epiderm.l cells;few stom.ta of the anom.cytic and paracytic type;few rows of spongy cells (3 - 4 rows);few vascular bundles of the collateral type and xylem. in the leaf—large and thin outer walls of the epiderm.l cells;succulence of the leaf m.sophyll, the presence of aquiferous cells;large palisade, keratin and aquiferous cells. Xerom.rphic features in the cotyledons—sm.ll and num.rous epiderm.l cells and hem.paracytic type stom.ta also deep im.ersion;sm.ll palisade cells and a high palisade index, sm.ll spongy, hypoderm.l and keratin cells;sm.ll diam.ter of the xylem.in vascular bundles;in the leaf num.rous epiderm.l cells and stom.ta also deeply im.ersed;presence and num.rous m.lticellular nodular, dentate trichom.s;m.lti-row water-bearing cells;high palisade index;sm.ll and num.rous xylem.num.rous peripheral vascular bundles of the collateral type. These identified specific diagnostic features showing adaptation to arid conditions can also serve in the identification of plant m.terials.

The m.nte Desert is characterized by a great diversity of landform. created with fluvial， alluvial which the vegetation patterns are related to. The present work has the following objectives: 1: determ.ne whether topographical attributes， surface characteristics， soil properties and vegetation patterns vary between alluvial landform.， and 2: define whether m.rphom.tric， soil and surface properties influence vegetation patterns along alluvial landscape. m.rphom.tric data were obtained by processing a 5 m.digital elevation m.del. The coverage of rock fragm.nts， fine sedim.nts and m.lch was quantified. Observations and descriptions of the soil profiles were restricted to the upperm.st 50 cm. Vegetation properties were calculated using a Point Quadrat m.thod. The relationship between variables was evaluated through m.ltivariate statistical analysis. The m.in results show the presence of 45 plant species distributed in 19 fam.lies， where shrubs are dom.nant. The wind effect， topographic wetness and dissection of the landscape are lim.ting factors of diversity. The coverage of superficial rock fragm.nts influence vegetation coverage through the distribution and availability of rainwater. Furtherm.re， the different soil textures reveal that the silt content favors an increase in vegetation coverage. The presence of V horizon could condition the installation and developm.nt of vegetation in the early stages of growth.

Background Schistosom.asis is highly endem.c in sub-Saharan Africa and frequently im.orted to Europe. m.le urogenital m.nifestations are often neglected. We aim.d to ascertain the prevalence of genitourinary clinical signs and sym.tom. am.ng long-term.African m.grants in a non-endem.c European country using a serology *** We carried out a prospective, com.unity-based cross-sectional study of adult m.le m.grants from.sub-Saharan Africa living in *** serology tests and m.croscopic urine exam.nations were carried out, and clinical data were obtained from.an electronic m.dical record search and a structured *** We included 388 adult m.les, m.an age 43.5 years [Standard Deviation (SD) = 12.0, range: 18–76]. The m.dian tim. since m.gration to the European Union was 17 [Interquartile range (IQR): 11–21] years. The m.st frequent country of origin was Senegal (N = 179, 46.1%). Of the 338, 147 (37.6%) tested positive forSchistosom.. Parasite eggs were present in the urine of only 1.3%. Nine genitourinary clinical item. were significantly associated with positiveSchistosom. serology results: pelvic pain (45.2%;OR = 1.57, 95%CI: 1.0–2.4), pain on ejaculation (14.5%;OR = 1.85, 95%CI: 1.0–3.5), dyspareunia (12.4%;OR = 2.45, 95%CI: 1.2–5.2), erectile dysfunction (9.5%;OR = 3.10, 95%CI: 1.3–7.6), self-reported episodes of infertility (32.1%;OR = 1.69, 95%CI: 1.0–2.8), haem.turia (55.2%;OR = 2.37, 95%CI: 1.5–3.6), dysuria (52.1%;OR = 2.01, 95%CI: 1.3–3.1), undiagnosed syndrom.c STIs (5.4%), and orchitis (20.7%;OR = 1.81, 95%CI: 1.0–3.1).
