Dialysis plays a c.uc.al role in the purific.tion of nanom.terials but its im.ac. on the struc.ural properties of c.rbon nanom.terials was never ***,a c.rbon-based nanom.terial generated elec.roc.em.c.lly in potassium.phosphate buffer,was c.arac.erized before and after dialysis against pure *** is shown that dialysis affec.s the size of the c.rbon dom.ins,struc.ural organization,surfac. func.ionalization,oxidation degree of c.rbon,and grade of ***,dialysis drives the nanom.terial organization from.disc.ete roundish c.rbon dom.ins,with sizes ranging from.70 to 160 nm.towards linear stac.ing struc.ures of sm.ll nanopartic.es （m..In parallel,alc.hol and ether （epoxide） surfac. groups evolve into m.re oxidized c.rbon groups （e.g.,ketone and ester groups）.Investigation of the as-prepared nanom.terial by elec.ron param.gnetic.resonanc. （EPR） revealed a resonanc. signal c.nsistent with c.rbon-oxygen c.ntred ***,this study brings to light the selec.ive affinity of the c.rbon nanom.terial under study to c.pture Na+ions,a property greatly enhanc.d by the dialysis proc.ss,and its high ability to trap oxygen,partic.larly before *** findings open new perspec.ives for the applic.tion of c.rbon-based nanom.terials and raise awareness of the im.ortanc. of struc.ural c.anges that c.n oc.ur during the purific.tion of c.rbon-based nanom.terials.

The elec.roc.em.c.l c._(2) reduc.ion reac.ion(c._(2)RR) to c.ntrollable c.em.c.ls is c.nsidered as a prom.sing pathway to store interm.ttent renewable energy. Herein, a set of c.talysts based on c.pper-nitrogendoped c.rbon xerogel(c.-N-c. are suc.essfully developed varying the c.pper am.unt and the nature of the c.pper prec.rsor, for the effic.ent c._(2)RR. The elec.roc.talytic.perform.nc. of c.-N-c.m.terials is assessed by a rotating ring-disc.elec.rode(RRDE), tec.nique still rarely explored for c._(2)RR. For c.m.arison, produc.s are also c.arac.erized by online gas c.rom.tography in a H-c.ll. The as-synthesized c.-Nc.c.talysts are found to be ac.ive and highly c. selec.ive at low overpotentials(from.-0.6 to -0.8 V ***) in 0.1 m.KHc._(3), while H_(2) from.the c.m.etitive water reduc.ion appears at larger overpotentials(-0.9 V vs. RHE). The optim.m.c.pper ac.tate-derived c.talyst c.ntaining c.-N_(4) m.ieties exhibits a c._(2)-to-c. turnover frequenc. of 997 h^(-1) at -0.9 V vs. RHE with a H_(2)/c. ratio of 1.8. These results dem.nstrate that RRDE c.nfiguration c.n be used as a feasible approac. for identifying elec.rolysis produc.s from.c._(2)RR.

A large fire of 233 ha in Huasc.rán National Park in Peru provided an opportunity to c.m.are plant and bird responses in burned and nearby unburned zones of the puna. Heights and live diam.ters of flagship Puya raim.ndii rosettes(assigned to four broad developm.ntal phases), plant c.m.unities(66 spec.es in 24 fam.lies and nine growth form.) and bird c.m.unities(77 spec.es in six trophic.guilds) were m.nitored after the fire. Although no m.rtality was observed, Puya raim.ndii plants were affec.ed by the fire, losing approxim.tely 60% of their photosynthetic.area ac.oss all developm.ntal phases, but rec.vered quic.ly during the first two years after fire. The c.m.arison of Puya rosette rec.very after fire was c.m.lic.ted by the c.anges in live rosette diam.ter for unburned plants, whic. showed plastic.ty of photosynthetic.area linked to seasonal and annual fluc.uations in prec.pitation in this relatively dry environm.nt(dec.eased by 26% for m.ture adult plants over the study period). Fire c.used an im.ediate c.ange in the density, biom.ss and c.m.osition of vegetation. Although the spec.es present rem.ined sim.lar, their abundanc.s c.anged signific.ntly im.ediately after the fire, with notable reduc.ions in dom.nant tussoc. grasses. This provided opportunities for other plants, resulting in higher postfire diversity of plant spec.es, genera, fam.lies and growth form.. In turn, the c.anges in vegetation after fire affec.ed the c.m.osition of birds ac.ording to their trophic.guild. Granivores largely disappeared,generalists were m.stly unaffec.ed, and other guilds showed a m.re c.m.lex response. As the vegetation rec.vered, m.st displac.d birds returned within approxim.tely one year.

Given the frequent oc.urrenc. of the sludge bulking phenom.na c.used by m.c.othrix parvic.lla（m. parvic.lla）overgrowth during the low-tem.erature period in the full-sc.le m.nic.pal wastewater treatm.nt plant，the filam.ntous bac.eria dynam.c. of the m. parvic.lla population were system.tic.lly investigated during the c.m.leted bulking period using the m.lti-dim.nsional integrated filam.ntous m.nitoring m.thod c.m.ined with the m.lec.lar quantitative m.thod. A lab-sc.le reac.or was c.nstruc.ed and suc.essfully sim.lated bulking phenom.na under the low-tem.erature c.ndition. The trend of dom.nant filam.ntous bac.erial shift and the m.in influenc.ng param.ters were estim.ted during the bulking period，to verify the key fac.ors for filam.nt growth and extinc.ion of the sludge bulking phenom.non in the full-sc.le plant. The results showed that the bulking-c.used m. parvic.lla was c.arac.erized by signific.nt c.anges in the diversity of filam.ntous bac.eria，and the dom.nant filam.ntous bac.erial suc.ession was reflec.ed in the c.m.etition between the skeleton filam.ntous bac.eria Type 0092 and Type 0041 and m. parvic.lla. At lower tem.eratures，sludge loading was an im.ortant c.ntrolling fac.or for the c.m.etitive growth advantage of m. parvic.lla：when the tem.erature was lower（approxim.tely 15°c.，low sludge loading［0.05 kg·（kg·d）−1］c.uld lead to the stabilized elevation of m. parvic.lla，and with the loading inc.eased to 0.1 kg·（kg·d）−1 or m.re，m. parvic.lla populations showed a targeted dec.ine despite the presenc. of the low tem.erature fac.or. © 2024 Sc.enc.
