The rem.val of heavy m.tals from.industrial waste stream. has becom. one of the m.st im.ortant applications in wastewater treatm.nt in term. of protecting public health and environm.nt. The recovery of m.tals present in the industrial effluents by adsorption onto natural m.terials constitutes a technological option increasingly studied throughout the world. However, the im.lem.ntation of such process on an industrial scale requires the use of adsorbents easily available and inexpensive. Clay in these two form. natural and activated answers very well to these two requirem.nts. The present research aim.d the study of the capacity of fixing of cadm.um.present in aqueous solution, by two types of clay: natural and activated. The adsorption capacity of adsorbent was investigated using batch experim.nts. The influence of pH, tem.erature and adsorbent dose were investigated and the experim.ntal data obtained were evaluated and fitted using adsorbent equilibrium.isotherm.. Adsorption isotherm. of cadm.um.onto natural and activated clay were determ.ned and correlated with com.on isotherm.equations such as the Langm.ir and Freundlich m.dels. The Langm.ir m.del agrees very well with experim.ntal data. The therm.dynam.c param.ters obtained indicated that the adsorption of cadm.um.ions onto natural clay was a spontaneous and an endotherm.c process.
