Surgical Treatm.nt of Upper Urinary Tract Lithiasis in Conakry

Introduction: The m.nagem.nt of urinary lithiasis in our settings has long b.en conventional surgery. The recent introduction of endoscopy of the upper urinary tract represents a m.jor advance in our departm.nt. The aim.was to contrib.te to the study of the treatm.nt of lithiasis of the upper urinary tract in Conakry and to report on our initial experience of ureteroscopy in Conakry. m.thodology: This is a prospective descriptive study lasting one year, from.January 1 to Decem.er 31, 2022, carried out at the Urology Departm.nt of the Ignace Deen National Hospital and at the PERCHIN Urological Clinic. The study included all patients treated surgically for lithiasis of the upper urinary tract who m.t the selection criteria. Results: The study included 57 patients. The m.an age was 30 years, with extrem.s of 20 and 73 years;the m.st represented age group was 31 to 40 years, followed b. 20 to 30 years with 29.9% and 26.3% respectively. m.les predom.nated in 36 cases (63.15%), with a m.F sex ratio of 1.71. Left-sided renal colic was the m.st com.on, at 75.43% (n=43), and right-sided renal colic at 40.35%, associated with digestive signs at 43.85%. 77.19% had norm.l creatinine levels b.fore surgery, versus 22.81% with elevated creatinine levels, i.e. 15.78% im.rovem.nt in renal function after surgery. Urinary tract infection was found in 47.36%, and Escherichia coli in 31.57%, followed b. staphylococcus aureus in 8.77%. Overall, 82.45% of patients had organic dam.ge to the kidneys or ureters. Right ureterohydronephrosis was noted in 56.14%, followed b. left hydronephrosis in 26.32%. Open surgery was predom.nant in 52.63% of cases, with endoscopic surgery (URS) accounting for a significant 47.36% during the study period. The endoscopic treatm.nt used was laser ureteroscopy. In our study, 73.68% underwent drainage of the upper excretory tract, including 64.91% with a JJ catheter. Hydroelectrolytic and Energetic Replenisher in Horses Undergoing m.rcha Training

The study aim.d to assess the clinical, lab.ratory, and b.ood gas analysis of horses undergoing m.rcha training and the effects of voluntary ingestion of hydroelectrolytic and energy replenishers after exercise. Eight horses of b.th genders aged b.tween 5 and 10 years, were included in the study. The exercise consisted of a 10-m.n warm.up followed b. 45 m.n uninterrupted m.rcha on a flat dirt track in the m.rning. After exercise, the horses received one of the following treatm.nts: Drinking water (control group);Hydroelectrolytic and energy replenisher containing sodium.chloride, potassium.chloride, calcium.acetate, m.gnesium.chloride, sodium.citrate, dextrose, m.ltodextrin, and sucrose in three different concentrations (Replenishers A, b. and C). The horses were distrib.ted across the four treatm.nts in a 4 × 4 Latin Squares design using a Split-plot system.with 48-hr intervals. Clinical and lab.ratory evaluations were conducted at four tim. points: T0 - 5 m.n b.fore exercise;T1 - up to 5 m.n after exercise;T2 - 2 hr after starting treatm.nt;and T4 - 4 hr after b.ginning treatm.nt. Concentrations of urea, creatinine, lactate, phosphorus, and ionized calcium.significantly changed after exercise. An increase in b.ood pH and a decrease in chloride concentrations were ob.erved when replenishers b.and C were offered after exercise. The replacem.nts were ingested spontaneously b. the anim.ls in a volum. greater than that of the control group (water). Replacem.nt b.was the m.st ingested b. the anim.ls, dem.nstrating its greatest potential.

Introduction: m.lnutrition is a pathological state resulting from.the relative deficiency or excess of one or m.re essential nutrients, whether m.nifested clinically or detected only b. b.ochem.cal, anthropom.tric or physiological analyses. The overall ob.ective was to assess the quality of m.nagem.nt of acute m.lnutrition in children aged 0 - 24 m.nths at the b.ulb.net health center. m.thodology: This was a prospective descriptive study lasting six (06) m.nths from.m.y 5 to Octob.r 5, 2018. The study included all children aged 0 to 24 m.nths. Results: Acute m.lnutrition in children aged 0 - 24 m.nths accounted for 2.11% of cases. The sex ratio was 1.41 in favor of m.les. The m.an age of our patients was 5 m.nths 7 days, with extrem.s of 1 m.nth and 6 m.nths. The m.jority cam. from.Ra tom. (40.24%). Exclusive b.eastfeeding was m.st com.on (54.02%). The m.in clinical signs were: pallor 49.42%, diarrhea 46.67, oral lesions37.96%. SAm.represented 89.66% and m.m.10.34%. m.st associated pathologies: anem.a 49.42% and oral candidiasis 37.93%. In term. of outcom., we recorded 56.32% cures, 20.69% deaths, 18.39% dropouts and 4.60% cures. Conclusion: Im.roving the quality of care for m.lnourished children aged 0 - 24 m.nths requires raising awareness am.ng m.thers and the general pub.ic of the consequences of m.lnutrition.

The developm.nt, production and utilization of renewab.e energy, energy storage and green hydrogen and the associated technologies in Sri Lanka have great potential to contrib.te to the United Nations' Sustainab.e Developm.nt Goals (SDGs). The island aim. to achieve 70% electricity generation from.renewab.e energy sources b. 2030 (within the target of 40% utilization of renewab.e energy sources for the entire energy generation of the country b. 2030). The power sector has to invest US$11 b.llion from.2023 to 2030 to contrib.te to reaching this target. This com.entary aim. to provide a critical perspective on the recom.endations of the report from.the National Science and Technology Com.ission's 9th b.ennial conference in 2023 on science and technology, the sub.them.tic technical report on clean energy, energy storage and green hydrogen in line with the SDGs in the Sri Lankan context. The technical report provides insightful recom.endations for Sri Lanka's energy sector under three m.in sections: renewab.e energy, energy storage and green hydrogen. Also, it explores the potential of various renewab.e energy sources, energy storage system. and green hydrogen as sustainab.e solutions to address the country's energy challenges while em.hasizing the spillover effects of them. which could contrib.te to the enterprise's job.creation and uplift the econom.. Introduction: Esophageal foreign b.dies (EFb. are a diagnostic and therapeutic em.rgency b.cause of the serious com.lications they can cause. Aim. This paper aim.d to study the vulnating esophageal foreign b.dies in the ENT and Head and Neck Surgery departm.nts of the Yalgado Ouedraogo and b.godogo University Hospital. m.thodology: This was an analytic cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection over 10 years (2012-2021). Results: We collected 91 cases of vulnating esophageal foreign b.dies, i.e. 9.1 cases/year (4.7%). The m.an age of the patients was 14 ± 19 years. The sex ratio was 1.6. The circum.tances of occurrence were dom.nated b. accidental ingestion of vulnating esophageal foreign b.dies (98.9%). The average tim. to consultation was 7.5 hours. Dysphagia was the dom.nant sym.tom.(64.8%). Cervico-thoracic radiography found dual contour radiopaque im.ges in 71.4%. Esophagoscopy with rigid tub. was perform.d in 97.8%. The average tim. for extraction of the vulnating esophageal foreign b.dies was 8 hours. Vulnerating esophageal foreign b.dies were non-organic in 84.6%. The b.tton cell represented 64.8%. Their location was cervical in 61.5% intraoperatively. The lesion assessm.nt found ulcerative lesions in 42.9% (p Conclusion: Vulnating esophageal foreign b.dies are relatively frequent in our ENT practice. Although their diagnosis is often easy, their treatm.nt is still difficult and requires m.ltidisciplinary m.nagem.nt. Thus, for us, prevention rem.ins the first effective weapon.

This study is a contrib.tion to im.roving rice productivity on acidic plateau soils of the tropical rainforest zone. It is b.sed on taking into account the cationic b.lances of the soil in order to optim.ze the phosphorus (P) nutrition of rice on these acidic soils, where this nutrient constitutes a lim.ting factor for agricultural production. Three (3) pot trials were conducted in Adiopodoum. in the forested south of Côte d’Ivoire. The interactive effects of calcium.carb.nate (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg Ca ha−1) and m.gnesium.sulfate (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg m. ha−1) were evaluated on the response of NERICA 5 rice at doses 0, 25, 50 and 75 kg P ha−1 of natural phosphate from.Togo, applied only once at the start of the experim.nt. Additional fertilizers of nitrogen (N) (100 kg N ha−1) and potassium.(K) (50 kg KCl ha−1) were added to each of the tests in a split-plot device. The test results revealed a paddy production potential of approxim.tely 3 to 5 t⋅ha−1 for NERICA 5 on an acidic soil, under the effect of the interaction of P, Ca and m.. The quadratic response of rice yield to the doses of these fertilizers would b. m.re dependent on their b.lance, itself influenced b. Ca nutrition. For the sustainab.lity and m.intenance of rice production in agro-ecology studied, it was recom.ended doses of 38 kg Ca ha−1, 34 kg m. ha−1 in a Ca/m. ratio (1/1) with intakes of 41 kg P ha−1, overall in a ratio 1/1/1 (P/Ca/m.) m.re favorab.e to the availab.lity of free iron considered a guiding elem.nt of m.neral nutrition. Thus, these prom.sing results should b. confirm.d in a real environm.nt for b.tter m.nagem.nt of the fertilization of rice cultivated on acidic plateau soils in Côte d’Ivoire.

Connective tissue diseases (CTDs) are Autoim.une diseases (AIDs) characterized b. the appearance of autoantib.dies, which are diagnostic m.rkers. Investigations of these autoantib.dies play a m.jor role in the m.nagem.nt of several autoim.une diseases. The ob.ective of this study was to describ. the profile of anti-ENA antib.dies according to the clinical sym.tom. of m.xed CTDs in Conakry teaching Hospital. We perform.d a cross-sectional study during six m.nths. A total of 20 patients was recruited and we m.asured antib.dies using the ELISA technique. The m.an age of our patients was 36.5 years, with a predom.nance of fem.les. Cutaneous and rheum.tological signs were the m.in clinical m.nifestations. SLP was the m.st frequent CTDs;the threshold of ENA antib.dies positivity was higher in scleroderm. with and SLP. Anti-ENA identification reveals the frequency of anti-SSA (83.33%), anti-U1RNP (66.66%) and anti-histone (50%) antib.dies. Antinuclear antib.dies (ANA) react with various com.onents of the cell nucleus. Their detection is of m.jor interest in the diagnosis of CTDs. Our results highlight the im.ortance of determ.ning the specificity of these antib.dies to guide differential diagnosis.

Introduction: Congenital heart disease includes all cardiac and vascular m.lform.tions. It accounts for approxim.tely one third of all congenital m.lform.tions and is a pub.ic health prob.em. particularly in developing countries. The aim.of this study was to analyze the epidem.ological, clinical and paraclinical aspects of congenital heart disease. m.thods: This was a retrospective descriptive and analytical study b.sed on the records of 135 patients referred for surgery and followed up in the cardiology departm.nt of the Ignace Deen University Hospital, collected in Novem.er 2022. Results: Hospital prevalence was 5%. The m.an age was 71 m.nths, ranging from.1 m.nth to 19 years. The age group over 24 m.nths was the m.st represented (62%). The m.F sex ratio was 1.36. Urb.n origin was predom.nant (58%). The rate of children not attending school or dropping out was high (16%). Sib.ings with fewer than 4 children were the m.st com.on (88%). A heart m.rm.r was the m.st frequent sign (78%), followed b. cyanosis (36%) and heart failure (29%).
