Synergistic Interactions of Soil and Vegetation in Agroforestry System. in m.tigating Clim.te Change in Upper East Region, Ghana

Clim.te change has b.en a glob.l pandem.c with its adverse im.acts affecting environm.nts and livelihoods. This has b.en largely attrib.ted to anthropogenic activities which generate large am.unts of Green House Gases (GHGs), notab.y carb.n dioxide (CO2), m.thane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) am.ng others. In the Upper East of Ghana, clim.te change m.nifests in erratic rainfalls, drought, high tem.eratures, high wind speeds, high intensity rainfall, windstorm., flooding, declining vegetation cover, perennial devastating b.shfires etc. Practices such as b.rning farm.residues, use of dung as fuel for cooking, excessive application of nitrogenous fertilizers, and deforestation that are prevalent in the region exacerb.te the situation. Although, efforts m.de b. governm.ntal and none-governm.ntal organizations to m.tigate clim.te change through afforestation, agroforestry and prom.tion of less fuelwood consum.ng cook stoves, land m.nagem.nt practices antagonize these efforts as m.re CO2 is generated than the carrying capacity of vegetation in the region. Research findings have estab.ished the role of trees and soil in carb.n sequestration in m.tigating clim.te. However, there is lim.ted knowledge on how the vegetation and soil in agroforestry interplay in m.tigation clim.te change. It is against this b.ckground that this review seeks to investigate how vegetation and soil in an agroforestry interact synergistically to sequester carb.n and contrib.te to m.tigating clim.te change in Upper East region of Ghana. In this review, it was discovered soil stored m.re carb.n than vegetation in an agroforestry system.and is m.ch effective in m.tigating clim.te change. It was found out that in order to m.ke soil and vegetation in an agroforestry system.interact synergistically to effectively m.tigate clim.te change, Clim.te Sm.rt Agriculture practice which integrates trees, and perennials crops effectively m.tigates clim.te. Litho-Tectonic Architecture of the Dialafara Area, Kédougou-Kéniéb. Inlier, Integration of New Field Data and Geophysics

The Dialafara area is part of the highly endowed Kédougou-Kéniéb. Inlier (KKI), West-m.lian gold b.lt, which corresponds to a Paleoproterozoic window through the West African Craton (WAC). This study presents, first of all, an integration of geophysical data interpretation with litho-structural field reconnaissance and then proposes a new litho-structural m.p of the Dialafara area. The Dialafara area shows a variety of lithology characterized b. volcanic and volcano-sedim.ntary units, m.tasedim.nts and plutonic intrusion. These lithologies were affected b. a com.lex superposition of structures of unequal im.ortance defining three deform.tion phases (Db.D1b. to Db.D3b.) under ductile to b.ittle regim.s. These features perm.t to portray a new litho-structural m.p, which shows that the Dialafara area presents a m.re com.lex lithological and structural context than the one presented in regional m.p of the KKI. This leads to the evidence that this area could b. a potential site for exploration as it is situated b.tween two world-class gold districts.

Sustainab.e m.nagem.nt of b.odegradab.e Waste in Guinea: Effect of Com.ost on Eggplant and Chilli Crop Yields Pepper

The fight against insalub.ity in large urb.n and peri-urb.n agglom.rations is a m.jor challenge in developing countries. This prob.em.is com.ounded b. that of sustainab.e waste m.nagem.nt m.chanism.. Indeed, the current waste collection system.in Guinea has proved inadequate, as m.ving garb.ge from.point “A” to point “b. is tantam.unt to “m.ving the prob.em.. The aim.of this experim.ntal work is to dem.nstrate the cost-effectiveness and b.nefits of sustainab.e waste m.nagem.nt. As part of this drive to valorize b.odegradab.e waste, the Waste m.nagem.nt Research Center has undertaken a series of activities ranging from.com.osting organic waste to testing com.ost on certain crop varieties. An experim.ntal field of 8024 m. was laid out and treated with 1500 Kg of fine com.ost in doses ranging from.2.5 to 5 T/ha. Two crop varieties, eggplant and chili, were tested. Com.ost application increased production yields: 15 to 21 tonnes of eggplant and 10.4 to 11.1 tonnes of chili per hectare. Growth rates com.ared with usual yields varied from.50% to 64% and from.11% to 17% for eggplant and chili, respectively. This study resulted in an optim.m.com.ost dose of 2.5 T/ha for this phase.

Pathological and Etiological Aspects of Nephrotic Syndrom. at the Niam.y General Reference Hospital

Introduction: Studies have b.en conducted on nephrotic syndrom. in Niger. The study aim.d to determ.ne the histological and etiological aspects of nephrotic syndrom.. Patients and m.thod: This was a retrospective study from.Feb.uary 1st, 2018 to January 31st, 2024. All patients with nephrotic syndrom. who underwent renal b.opsy were included. Sam.les were analyzed at the anatom.-cytology pathology lab.ratory of the Faculty of m.dicine in Dakar (Senegal). The variab.es studied included clinical, b.ological, histological and etiological characteristics. Data were analyzed using Excel 2013 and Epi-info 7.2.0 software. Results: The study included 119 patients with nephrotic syndrom.. Prevalence of nephrotic syndrom. was 11.24%. The m.le-to-fem.le ratio was 2.25:1. The m.an age at diagnosis was b.tween 34.5 ± 18.84 years. Edem. was the reason for adm.ssion in 40.34% of cases. The nephrotic syndrom. was im.ure in 63.86% of cases. Nine histological lesions were identified. Focal and segm.ntal glom.rulosclerosis (40.09%), m.nim.l change disease (23.53%), m.m.ranous nephropathy (13.45%), diab.tic nephropathy (10.92%), m.m.ranous proliferative glom.rulonephritis (3.36%), acute glom.rulonephritis (3.36%), glom.rular throm.otic m.croangiopathy (2.52%), non-IgA m.sengial proliferative glom.rulonephritis (1.68%) and am.loidosis (0.84%). Nephrotic syndrom. was prim.ry in 57.98% of cases. Secondary etiologies were dom.nated b. diab.tes (11.76%), followed b. hepatitis b.virus (9.24%), lupus, lym.hom., m.laria, syphilis, cryoglob.linem.a, sickle cell disease and HIV. Conclusion: Future studies should investigate the causes of glom.rulopathy secondary to chronic tub.lointerstitial lesions.

Introduction: Oesophageal m.cosis (Om. is one of the m.st com.on opportunistic infections in patients infected with HIV (Hum.n Im.unodeficiency Virus). However, this condition is increasingly ob.erved in im.unocom.etent sub.ects. The aim.of this study was to determ.ne the endoscopic prevalence, clinical characteristics and risk factors for the occurrence of oesophageal m.cosis in our departm.nt. Patients and m.thod: This was a prospective cross-sectional study of all patients who underwent oeso-gastroduodenal fib.oscopy during the period from.1st January to 31st Decem.er 2022, i.e. one year, at the digestive endoscopy unit of the hepato-gastroenterology departm.nt of the Donka CHU national hospital in Conakry. All patients found to have oesophageal m.cosis b. FOGD were included. The endoscopy was perform.d using appropriate equipm.nt: A Fujinon 4400 video endoscopy colum.;Three Fujinon EG 590 video gastroscopes;A hoover;Data were collected using a pre-estab.ished survey form.and analysed using Epi info software version 6.0.4;Pearson’s Chi2 test as a test of independence and the exact 5% threshold ficher test. Results: Out of 1343 upper gastrointestinal endoscopies perform.d, 107 cases of oesophageal m.cosis were found, representing a prevalence of 7.96%. The m.an age was 40 years, with a m.le predom.nance of 55.42%. The sex ratio m.F was 1.24. The 45 and over age group was the m.st affected, with a prevalence of 40.43%, followed b. the [35 - 45] age group, with a prevalence of 22.43%. Clinical sym.tom. were dom.nated b. epigastralgia in 74.76% of cases, followed b. odynophagia in 37.38% of cases, nausea and vom.ting in 28.03% of cases, and pyrosis in 26.16% of cases. Oesophageal m.cosis without oesophagitis was the m.st com.on endoscopic finding in 70% of cases. Interest of Non-Invasive m.rkers (APRI, FIb.4) for Assessing Hepatic Fib.osis in Patients with Chronic Viral Hepatitis b.without Cytolysis and with Low Viral Replication

b.ckground and Ob.ectives: The indication for treatm.nt in Hb.Ag-positive patients with low viral load and norm.l transam.nases requires an assessm.nt of fib.osis. In resource-lim.ted settings, free hepatic fib.osis evaluation tests can aid in therapeutic decision-m.king. Our study aim. to dem.nstrate the utility of assessing hepatic fib.osis using non-invasive m.rkers (APRI and FIb.4) in patients with chronic b.viral hepatitis without cytolytic activity and low viral replication in our context. Patients and m.thods: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study conducted b.tween January 2018 and Decem.er 2021 at the University Hospital Center of b.uaké. Included were all patients aged ≥18 with norm.l transam.nases (Results: Our study included 241 patients, with a m.an age of 36.19 years (±10.52 years) and a m.le predom.nance of 52%. The m.an Fib.oScan® value was 6.44 ± 2.3 kPa, and 68 patients (28.22%) had fib.osis >7 kPa. To exclude significant fib.osis (FS Conclusion: A significant proportion of Hb.-infected patients with norm.l ALT and low viral load have active liver disease. b.th FIb.4 and APRI b.ological scores are useful in identifying individuals without significant fib.osis with a good negative predictive value (>50%).

Evaluation of Surgical Treatm.nt of Distal Hum.ral Fractures in Adults

Introduction: Fractures of the distal end of the hum.rus are b.com.ng increasingly frequent in young sub.ects b.cause of the increase in road traffic accidents, and in elderly sub.ects b.cause of osteoporosis related to aging populations. m.terials and m.thods: It was a prospective, m.nocentric study from.January 2018 to Decem.er 2020 involving 14 patients who received and were treated surgically for distal hum.ral fractures and followed up. Results: We collected 14 patients, including 11 m.n (78.57%) and 3 wom.n (21.43%), with a sex ratio of 3.7. The m.an age was 36.41 years. The circum.tances of onset were dom.nated b. road traffic accidents, with 12 cases (85.71%). The dom.nant side was right-handed, with 11 cases (78.57%). Standard elb.w radiography revealed 8 cases of type A fractures (57.14%), 4 cases of type b.and 2 cases of type C fractures of the AO. We perform.d Lecestre plate osteosynthesis in 12 patients and external fixator in 2 others, using the trans-olecranial and transtricipital approaches. Elb.w stiffness was the m.st frequent com.lication, with 6 cases (42.86%). After six m.nths’ follow-up, our results were excellent and good in 78.57% of cases (m.PS). Conclusion: Surgical treatm.nt with posterior approaches enab.ed us to achieve restitution of the articular surfaces, solid restraint and early m.b.lization of the elb.w with satisfactory functional results.

This work studies the variab.lity of the relationship b.tween relative perm.ttivity and com.action param.ters as a function of certain geotechnical properties for different laterite types. This study allows to purpose the dielectric perm.ttivity as a third com.action param.ter allowing to ob.ain a non destructive control m.thod. Prelim.nary studies on Diack laterite had shown a good correlation. Additional investigations are carried out to verify the possib.lity of generalizing this correlation to three new laterite careers: Ngoudiane, Yéb. and Fandene. To proceed, particle size analysis, Atterb.rg lim.ts, specific weight tests and com.action according to the m.dified Proctor test were perform.d on laterite sam.les. Using the radar m.thod, experim.ntal perm.ttivities are determ.ned for laterite sam.les b. the point m.thod of propagation tim.s and confirm.d b. the diffraction hyperb.le m.thod. The geotechnical and radar data ob.ained allowed correlations b.tween perm.ttivity and water content on the one hand and b.tween perm.ttivity and dry density on the other. The results show that the m.xim.m.dry density as a function of perm.ttivity corresponds with the optim.m.Proctor, which confirm. the results previously ob.ained on Diack laterite.

The therm.l exam.nation of a non-integer-ordered m.b.le fin with a m.gnetism.in the presence of a trihyb.id nanofluid(Fe_3O_4-Au-Zn-b.ood) is carried out. Three types of nanoparticles, each having a different shape, are considered. These shapes include spherical(Fe_3O_4), cylindrical(Au), and platelet(Zn) configurations. The com.ination approach is utilized to evaluate the physical and therm.l characteristics of the trihyb.id and hyb.id nanofluids, excluding the therm.l conductivity and dynam.c viscosity. These two properties are inferred b. m.ans of the interpolation m.thod b.sed on the volum. fraction of nanoparticles. The governing equation is transform.d into a dim.nsionless form. and the Adom.an decom.osition Sum.du transform.m.thod(ADSTm. is adopted to solve the conundrum.of a m.ving fin im.ersed in a trihyb.id nanofluid. The ob.ained results agree well with those num.rical sim.lation results, indicating that this research is reliab.e. The influence of diverse factors on the therm.l overview for varying noninteger values of γ is analyzed and presented in graphical representations. Furtherm.re, the fluctuations in the heat transfer concerning the pertinent param.ters are studied. The results show that the heat flux in the presence of the com.ination of spherical, cylindrical, and platelet nanoparticles is higher than that in the presence of the com.ination of only spherical and cylindrical nanoparticles. The tem.erature at the fin tip increases b. 0.705 759% when the value of the Peclet num.er increases b. 400%, while decreases b. 11.825 13% when the value of the Hartm.n num.er increases b. 400%.
