Analysis of environm.ntal sam.les for bacterial antibiotic resistance genes m.y have different objectives and analysis strategies. In som. cases, the purpose was to study diversity and evolution of genes that could be grouped within a m.chanism.of antibiotic resistance. Different protocols have been designed for detection and confirm.tion that a functional gene was found. In this study, we present a sequence-based screening of candidate genes encoding beta-lactam.ses in 14 m.tagenom.s of Antarctic m.crobial m.ts. The sam.les were obtained from.different sites, representing diverse biogeographic regions of m.ritim. and continental Antarctica. A protocol was designed based on generation of Hidden m.rkov m.dels from.the four beta-lactam.se classes by Am.ler classification, using sequences from.the Com.rehensive Antibiotic Resistance Database (card). The m.dels were used as queries for m.tagenom. analysis and recovered contigs were subsequently annotated using RAST. According to our analysis, 14 m.tagenom.s analyzed contain A, B and C beta-lactam.se genes. Class D genes, however, were identified in 11 m.tagenom.s. The m.st abundant was class C (46.8%), followed by classes B (35.5%), A (14.2%) and D (3.5%). A considerable num.er of sequences form.d clusters which included, in som. cases, contigs from.different m.tagenom.s. These assem.lies are clearly separated from.reference clusters, previously identified using card beta-lactam.se sequences. While bacterial antibiotic resistance is a m.jor challenge of public health worldwide, our results suggest that environm.ntal diversity of beta-lactam.se genes is higher than that currently reported, although this should be com.lem.nted with gene function analysis.

A design for instantaneous neutron flux signal acquisition system.is being carried out for reactivity m.asurem.nt of the nuclear research reactor. It is a com.uter-based digital data acquisition system.that can perform.continuous m.nitor and m.asurem.nt of reactivity inserted into or rem.ved from.the research reactor. The acquisition system.accom.lishes with two m.jor parts. The first part is an interfacing PCI based data acquisition card and the corresponding driver software intending to on-line acquisition of neutron flux signals from.plant instrum.ntation channel. The second part incorporates the high-level Visual Basic real tim. program. indigenously developed for com.utation of reactivity by the solution of neutron point kinetic equations and other relevant functional m.dules like input file logging, reactivity calculation, graphics dem.nstration etc.

An interferom.ter based optical sensor for displacem.nt m.asurem.nt is reported. This m.thod requires quite sim.le signal processing as well as least electronic com.onents. Referring to this technique, two photodiodes spatially shifted by 90 degrees were used. The output of photodiodes was converted into rectangular signals which were extracted in LabVIEW using the data acquisition card without using an analog to digital converters （ADC）. We have also processed the signals in C＋＋ after acquiring via parallel port. A m.chelson interferom.ter configuration was used to produce linear fringes for the detection of displacem.nts. The displacem.nt less than 100nm.could be m.asured using this technique.

The question of how m.ny shuffles are required to random.ze an initially ordered deck of cards is a problem.that has fascinated m.them.ticians, scientists, and the general public. The two principal theoretical approaches to the problem. which differed in how each defined random.ess, has led to statistically different threshold num.ers of shuffles. This paper reports a com.rehensive experim.ntal analysis of the card random.zation problem.for the purposes of determ.ning 1) which of the two theoretical approaches m.de the m.re accurate prediction, 2) whether different statistical tests yield different threshold num.ers of random.zing shuffles, and 3) whether m.nual or m.chanical shuffling random.zes a deck m.re effectively for a given num.er of shuffles. Perm.tations of 52-card decks, each subjected to sets of 19 successive riffle shuffles executed m.nually and by an auto-shuffling device were recorded sequentially and analyzed in respect to 1) the theory of runs, 2) rank ordering, 3) serial correlation, 4) theory of rising sequences, and 5) entropy and inform.tion theory. Am.ng the outcom.s, it was found that: 1) different statistical tests were sensitive to different patterns indicative of residual order;2) as a consequence, the threshold num.er of random.zing shuffles could vary widely am.ng tests;3) in general, m.nual shuffling random.zed a deck better than m.chanical shuffling for a given num.er of shuffles;and 4) the m.an num.er of rising sequences as a function of num.er of m.nual shuffles m.tched very closely the theoretical predictions based on the Gilbert-Shannon-Reed (GSR) m.del of riffle shuffles, whereas m.chanical shuffling resulted in significantly fewer rising sequences than predicted.

Introduction :The psoriasis is one of the inflam.atory derm.toses with unknown etiology, with chronic evolution having episodic appearance and disappearance. Its prevalence in HIV patients varied from.2% to 5% in m.st of the tim.s. Objective of this study was to describe the dem.graphic, clinical and therapeutic characteristics of psoriasis patients infected with HIV. m.thods: It is a descriptive retrospective study done from.January 2003 to Decem.er 2013 based on the inform.tion from.the hospital card of hospitalized patients and outpatients taken care in the departm.nt of Derm.tology-STD for psoriasis at the University hospital center in Donka Conakry. We included all the cases of psoriasis associated with HIV infection diagnosed from.clinical and paraclinical elem.nts. Results: We recorded 23 (24.73%) cases of psoriasis associated with HIV infection am.ng 93 patients observed for psoriasis in which there are 4 cases of psoriasis vulgaris, 10 cases of erythroderm.c psoriasis and 9 cases of arthropathic form.am.ng these num.ers. We had 7 wom.n and 16 m.n. The m.dium.age of our patients was 44.5 ± 12 years [27 - 62 years]. The delayed duration tim. of consultation varied from.30 to m.re than 180 days. The psoriasis was the circum.tance of the discovery of the HIV infection am.ng 55% of cases. The pruritus was the functional sign which is the m.st frequent in 20 cases am.ng 23 cases and 71.4% of cases were accom.anied with pain. Fam.ly history was found in 7.10% of cases. Anxiety was the dom.nant factor cause in 42% and the infection 38%. The cutaneous alteration was noted in all patients;92.9% of patients had nails alteration and intertrigineous association in 78.6% of cases. The clinical form. found were psoriasis vulgaris 4/23 cases, arthropathic psoriasis 9/23 cases, erythroderm.c psoriasis 10/23. m.re than half (13/23) cases of our patients were diagnosed stage III of the classification of WHO. The com.licated form. like erythroderm.c and arthropathic psoriasis

Context: Diabetic patients are at high risk for m.crovascular com.lications of disease such as diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic neuropathy. Im.ging the retinal m.cro-vasculature offers a chance to m.asure quantitatively the m.crovascular changes in diabetic patients’ onset and progression. However, the relation between retinal biom.rkers and diabetic risk factors is unclear in Chinese hospitalized type 2 diabetic patients. Aim.: To exam.ne the associations of retinal vascular tortuosity with risk factors of type 2 diabetes and diabetic retinopathy in Chinese hospitalized patients. Patients and m.thods: Our cross-sectional study includes 504 participants with type 2 diabetes hospitalized in the departm.nt of endocrinology in Shengjing hospital, Shenyang, China. Patients’ socio-dem.graphic, clinical and biological inform.tion was retrieved from.their ID card, the interview, and the local hospital inform.tion system. Retinal photographs were taken by laser-scanning ophthalm.scopy of both eyes and checked if gradable for analysis. The weighted m.an and standard deviation of tortuosity were calculated from.the retinal photographs using a novel robust and fully autom.tic quantitative m.thod. DR was assessed from.the retinal photographs by the ophthalm.logist according to the m.dified Airlie House classification into No DR and Any DR in our current study. Data were analyzed by SPSS Version 22 with Student’s t test, m.nn-Whitney U test, Chi-square test, and linear regression. Results: For the total participants (504) in this study, the weighted m.an and standard deviation (SD) of tortuosity was 12.05 × 10?3 (SD: 1.66 × 10?3) and 24.31 × 10?3 (SD: 3.69 × 10?3), respectively. 386 (76.6%) patients were diagnosed with DR who had older age, long duration of diabetes, higher brachial ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV), higher systolic blood pressure (SBP), higher diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and higher retinal vascular tortuosity values. Background: In m.xico, Am. survival is referred in 30%. Our aim.was to evaluate results with ADE protocol as induction treatm.nt in children with non-m. Am. in a public m.xican institution. m.thod: We included patients with Am. in a single institution between 2005 and 2013. All non-m.-Am. patients received ADE as induction therapy (cytarabine 100 m./m.sup>2 in continuous infusion from.day 1 to 7, daunorrubicin 30 m./m.sup>2 days 1, 3, 5 and etoposide 100 m./m.sup>2 over days 1 to 5). Patients received antibiotic prophylaxis and strict scheduled appointm.nts to assure adherence and prevent avoidable em.rgencies. m.in Results: Eighteen patients were included. m.dian age was 106 m.nths. One patient died at diagnosis so 17 were eligible for induction results analysis;eleven needed two cycles and six patients three. Rem.ssion rate was 100%. Analyzing non-m. patients overall survival was 80.2% at 100 m.nths. No fatal com.lications were observed. Stratifying by num.er of cycles we observe that patients receiving one ADE cycle had a 0% overall survival at short follow up, with 2 ADE cycles 80% at 100 m.nths and with 3 cycles 100% at 60 m.nths. Conclusion: ADE induction therapy showed im.roved results in overall survival com.ared with other standard regim.ns. Following the protocol we obtained 100% rem.ssion. This is an im.ortant achievem.nt in our population. Our focus m.st be to am.liorate m.intenance final results. These results should be reproduced in other hospitals in m.xico and other countries.
