Odour reducing microbial-mineral additive for poultry manure treatment

Poultry production systems are associated with emissions of odorous volatile organic compounds （VOCs）, ammonia （NH3）, hydrogen sulfide （HES）, greenhouse gases, and particulate matter. Development of mitigation technologies for these emissions is important. Previous laboratory-scale research on microbial-mineral treatment has shown to be effective for mitigation of NH3, H2S and amines emissions from poultry manure. The aim of this research was to assess the effectiveness of surface application of a microbial-mineral treatment for other important odorants, i.e., phenolics and sulfur-containing VOCs. microbial-mineral litter additive consisting of 20% （w/w） of bacteria powder （six strains ofheterotrophic bacteria） and 80% of mineral carrier （perlite-bentonite） was used at a dose of 500 g·m^-2 （per -31 kg of manure）. Samples of air were collected m two series, 4 and 7 days after application of additives. An odor profile of the poultry manure was determined using simultaneous chemical and sensory analysis. Reduction levels of VOCs determined on Day 4 was between 31% and 83% for mineral adsorbent treatment and in the range of 9% and 96% for microbial-mineral additive, depending on the analyzed compound. Reduction levels on Day 7 were considerably lower than on Day 4, suggesting that the odorous VOCs treatment efficacy is relatively short. There was no significant difference between treatments consisting of microbial-mineral additive and mineral carrier alone.

To the Editor:Since 1027,when the Tian Sheng Bronze Statue showing acupoints and meridians was first introduced for medical practitioners,it has evolved to the currently used acupoints and meridians atlas in traditional Chinese medicine(TCm).[1]To date,the acupoints represent defined areas on the body surface relative to certain *** acupoints in the extremity endings would connect anatomically with diverse associated visceral organs or tissues,forming a meridian and Collateral *** on the atlas,each main meridian is usually a virtual line connecting a group of adjacent acupoints that correlate with certain visceral *** modern medical science,the anatomical structures of main meridians remain largely unclarified.

介绍水平钻井中的多底井技术、地质导向技术、高级钻头和钻具、新颖的短半径钻具以及小井眼钻井系统方面的新技术。多底水平井可降低钻井成本的20％～30％,使海上平台的大小及数量减小50％。地质导向钻具利用随钻测井仪,能精确地引导井眼的走向,避开水和天然气等地下障碍,显著地提高水平井的产油率。改进后的PDC钻头、TSP钻头及大功率新型动力钻具,可使水平钻井钻速提高2～3倍。新颖的短半径(12～30m)动力钻井系统可较快地钻出水平段为305～457m的水平井。新的小井眼钻井系统可在144mm的套管上侧钻出92mm的水平井和多底水平井。以上新技术将明显扩大水平钻井的应用范围。

Liver resections can be performed safely without Pringle maneuver: A prospective study

AIm To evaluate liver resections without Pringle maneuver, i.e., clamping of the portal triad. mETHODS Between 9/2002 and 7/2013, 175 consecutive liver resections(n = 101 major anatomical and n = 74 large atypical > 5 cm) without Pringle maneuver were performed in 127 patients(143 surgeries). Accompanying, 37 wedge resections(specimens m) and 43 radiofrequency ablations were performed. Preoperative volumetric calculation of the liver remnant preceeded all anatomical resections. The liver parenchyma was dissected by waterjet. The median central venous pressure was 4 mmH g(range: 5-14). Data was collected prospectively. RESULTS The median age of patients was 60 years(range: 16-85). Preoperative chemotherapy was used in 70 cases(49.0%). Liver cirrhosis was present in 6.3%, and liver steatosis of ≥ 10% in 28.0%. Blood loss was median 400 mL(range 50-5000 mL). Perioperative blood transfusions were given in 22/143 procedures(15%). The median weight of anatomically resected liver specimens was 525 g(range: 51-1850 g). One patient died postoperatively. Biliary leakages(n = 5) were treated conservatively. Temporary liver failure occurred in two *** major liver resections without Pringle maneuver are feasible and safe. The avoidance of liver inflow clamping might reduce liver damage and failure, and shorten the hospital stay.

Detection and Characterization of β-Lactamase Encoding Genes in Carbapenem Non-Susceptible Gram-Negative Bacteria and Susceptibility of Isolates to Ceftazidime-Avibactam at a New York City Community Hospital

A surveillance study was undertaken to identify prominent β-lactamase encoding genes in 131 carbapenem non-susceptible gram-negative clinical isolates at a New York City community hospital. KPC carbapenemases were detected in 89% of Enterobacteriaceae as well as additional TEm, SHV, and CTX-m class A enzymes. OXA-23 and OXA-24 were the prevalent class D carbapenemases identified in Acinetobacter species. One OXA-23 in m. morganii and one OXA-48 in K. pneumoniae were also identified. Among class C β-lactamases CmY, ACT/mIR, DHA, and FOX were detected. The in vitro activity of ceftazidime-avibactam by E-test methodology was tested with minimal inhibitory concentrations (mIC) of ≤3 μg/ml for 97.8% of all Enterobacteriaceae, mIC50/90 of 16/>256 μg/ml for carbapenem non-susceptible Acinetobacter, and 3/6 μg/ml for carbapenem non-susceptible Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Periodic surveillance of isolates to characterize current and emerging β-lactamase genotypes present in local isolates may help identify outbreak situations, provide assistance to infection control and antibiotic stewardship programs, and potentially improve patient outcomes.

The clinical and microbiologic characteristics of 34 patients with extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) positive E. coli isolated from blood were compared to 66 bacteremic patients with ESBL negative E. coli, from January 2007 through December 2009. Of the 21 ESBL positive isolates available for PCR analysis, 13 were positive for CTX-m, 8 for TEm, 4 for SHV β-lactamases, with 6 possessing multiple enzymes. Twenty of 34 (59%) ESBL-positive and 41 of 66 (62%) ESBL-negative blood isolates were considered community-associated. All but one isolate in both groups had mICs of ≤1.0 μg/ml to meropenem. However, when compared to ESBL-negative isolates, ESBL-positive isolates were more frequently resistant to levofloxacin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and had higher mICs to gentamicin, tobramycin and piperacillin/tazobactam. The use of intravenous and urinary catheters was strongly associated with the isolation of E. coli bloodstream isolates in both groups of patients. Although hospital stay was similar in both groups, appropriate therapy was given in 87% of patients with ESBL positive vs. 98% of patients with ESBL negative isolates and mortality was greater for patients with ESBL positive isolates (26% vs. 17%). Since a large proportion of E. coli blood isolates were ESBL-positive and community-associated, carbapenems should be considered as initial empiric therapy for such infections in our locale.

建筑学经过几千年的发展,表面上获得了比前人更加广泛的自由——材料与技术的多样性,城市的复杂性,文化的多元性——所有这些使得建筑远比以往要绚烂夺目。然而,若尝试回溯建筑的本源目标,我们却发觉建筑学科之路,至少以现今中国的现状来讲,是越走越狭窄——以往建筑思考和建造上的多样性和可能性正被抹杀,而建筑在中国城市中似乎已经穷途末路,难以有深刻的创新。作为本届深港建筑双年展新场址的蛇口浮法玻璃厂给了建筑师和城市决策者一个契机,重新检视城市发展的思考和实践,这里面可以涵括城市发展策略、城市设计和建筑设计等不同层面。而玻璃厂筒仓建筑的改造(或者不应称之为改造[renovation],而应称之为介入[intervention]和再现[manifestation])则试图找寻这个原为储存超量物料、单纯为力学建造的人造物空置的内部空间精神体验(的可能性)。对我们而言,建筑保护不再仅仅保留历史和空间,建筑改造也不仅仅给旧建筑注入新的使用内容而达到再利用。本次玻璃厂就工业建筑的"介入"和"再现"试图通过对旧工业建筑的探索和发现,重新找寻已经失落的空间存在和体验,进而为城市建筑和建筑学带来新的发展思路。原料筒仓位于生产大厅和沙库建筑之间,是浮法玻璃厂的中心,也是整个厂区的制高点和标志物。建筑物平面东西向长77.9m,由西向东分为三段,分别是西面两个直径5.4m的钢制副原料筒,中间四个直径14m的钢筋混凝土主原料筒和东侧一幢包含主要垂直交通和运输的长方体建筑;建筑立面从地面往上分同样分为三段:底层是高约6m的出料层,中间是高30m的筒仓存储层,顶上则是高3.6m
