RBFK cipher:a randomized butterfly architecture‑based lightweight block cipher for IoT devices in the edge computing environment

Internet security has become a major concern with the growing use of the Internet of Things(IoT)and edge computing *** though data processing is handled by the edge server,sensitive data is generated and stored by the IoT devices,which are subject to *** most IoT devices have limited resources,standard security algorithms such as AES,DES,and RSA hamper their ability to run *** this paper,a lightweight symmetric key cipher termed randomized butterfly architecture of fast Fourier transform for key(RBFK)cipher is proposed for resource-constrained IoT devices in the edge computing *** butterfly architecture is used in the key scheduling system to produce strong round keys for five rounds of the encryption *** RBFK cipher has two key sizes:64 and 128 bits,with a block size of 64 *** RBFK ciphers have a larger avalanche effect due to the butterfly architecture ensuring strong *** proposed cipher satisfies the Shannon characteristics of confusion and *** memory usage and execution cycle of the RBFK cipher are assessed using the fair evaluation of the lightweight cryptographic systems(FELICS)*** proposed ciphers were also implemented using mATLAB 2021a to test key sensitivity by analyzing the histogram,correlation graph,and entropy of encrypted and decrypted *** the RBFK ciphers with minimal computational complexity provide better security than recently proposed competing ciphers,these are suitable for IoT devices in an edge computing environment.

This paper presents a controller for fast and ultrafast electric vehicle(EV)charging *** affecting the charging efficiency,the proposed controller enables the charger to provide support to the interconnection voltage to counter and damp its *** solutions are either hardware-based such as using supercapacitors and flywheels which increase the cost and bulkiness of the charging station,or software-based such as P/V droop methods which are still unable to provide a robust and strong voltage *** paper proposes an emulated supercapacitor concept in the control system of the ultra-fast EV charger in an islanded DC ***,it converts the EV from a static load to a bus voltage supportive load,leading to reduced bus voltage oscillations during single and multiple ultra-fast EV charging operations,and rides through and provides supports during extreme external *** analysis and design guidelines of the proposed controller are presented,and its effectiveness and improved performance compared with conventional techniques are shown for different case studies.

Biochar:An Emerging Panacea for Remediation of Soil Contaminants from mining,Industry and Sewage Wastes

mine tailings, waste rock piles, acid mine drainage, industrial wastewater, and sewage sludge have contaminated a vast area of cultivable and fallow lands, with a consequence of deterioration of soil and water quality and watercourses due to the erosion of contaminated soils for absence of vegetative cover. High concentrations of toxic elements, organic contaminants, acidic soils, and harsh climatic conditions have made it difficult to re-establish vegetation and produce crops there. Recently, a significant body of work has focussed on the suitability and potentiality of biochar as a soil remediation tool that increases seed emergence, soil and crop productivity, above ground biomass, and vegetation cover on mine tailings, waste rock piles, and industrial and sewage waste- contaminated soils by increasing soil nutrients and water-holding capacity, amelioration of soil acidity, and stimulation of microbial diversity and functions. This review addresses： i） the functional properties of biochar, and microbial cycling of nutrients in soil; ii） bioremediation, especially phytoremediation of mine railings, industrial waste, sewage sludge, and contaminated soil using biochar; iii） impact of biochar on reduction of acid production, acid mine drainage treatment, and geochemical dynamics in mine railings; and iv） treatment of metal and organic contaminants in soils using biochar, and restoration of degraded land.

BioCluster:Tool for Identification and Clustering of Enterobacteriaceae Based on Biochemical Data

Presumptive identifcation of different Enterobaeteriaeeae species is routinely achieved based on biochemical properties. Traditional practice includes manual comparison of each biochem- ical property of the unknown sample with known reference samples and inference of its identity based on the maximum similarity pattern with the known samples. This process is labor- intensive, time-consuming, error-prone, and subjective. Therefore, automation of sorting and sim- ilarity in calculation would be advantageous. Here we present a mATLAB-based graphical user interface （GUI） tool named BioCluster. This tool was designed for automated clustering and iden- tification of Enterobacteriaceae based on biochemical test results. In this tool, we used two types of algorithms, i.e., traditional hierarchical clustering （HC） and the Improved Hierarchical Clustering （IHC）, a modified algorithm that was developed specifically for the clustering and identification of within this species. IHC takes into account the variability in result of 1-47 biochemical tests family. This tool also provides different options to optimize the clus- tering in a user-friendly way. Using computer-generated synthetic data and some real data, we have demonstrated that BioCluster has high accuracy in clustering and identifying enterobacterial species based on biochemical test data. Spatial and seasonal distribution of intertidal macrobenthos with their biomass and functional feeding guilds in the Naf River estuary, Bangladesh

The Naf River estuary is one of the most productive ecological ecosystems in Bangladesh providing an important feeding area for fishes and other aquatic ***,detailed information on macrobenthic communities is rarely available in this *** study focused on the seasonal and spatial variability of macrobenthic community structure with their biomass and functional *** total,fortyseven taxa were identified under nine major groups and seven functional feeding *** macrobenthic taxa,Polychaeta was dominant in both seasons and all over the estuary contributing 60%of total *** mean abundance of macrobenthos was higher during the pre-monsoon(2 972±1 994 inds./m^2)than the monsoon(1 572±361 inds./m^2)being maximum at mid-estuary region and minimum at upper and lower estuary *** the diversity indices,density(P=0.01,P=0.003),the number of taxa(P=0.000 3,P=0.000 9)and margalef′s Index(P=0.000 4,P=0.001)of macrobenthos were significantly different among stations and ***-Weiner index(P=0.009,P=0.12)and Pielou’s evenness index(P=0.03,P=0.14)had significant differences among stations but not among *** analysis suggested that distribution of macrofauna is strongly influenced by *** the feeding types,carnivorous were found to be dominant at the upper and mid-estuarine regions,and herbivorous were at lower estuarine *** species were dominant in both *** have shown to be the most abundant feeding type in terms of biomass though herbivores were highest during monsoon.

Effects of industrial and residential sludge on seed germination and growth parameters of Acacia auriculiformis seedlings

A study was conducted to evaluate the effects of sludge （industrial and residential） on seed germination and growth performance of Acacia auriculiformis seedlings at the nursery of Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, Chittagong University （IFESCU）, Bangladesh. Before sowing of the seeds, different combinations of sludge were incorporated with the nutrient-deficient natural forest soils. Seed germination and growth parameters of the seedlings （shoot and root length, collar diameter, fresh and dry weight of shoot, and root and total dry biomass） were recorded after one, two and three months of seed sowing. Physio-chemical parameters （pH, organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium） and heavy metals （chromium, nickel, manganese, cadmium and zinc） of each treatment were also analyzed before sowing of seeds and after harvesting of seedlings. Results show that the seed germination percentage and the seedling growth parameters varied significantly in the soil added with sludge in comparison to control. The highest germination percentage （90%） was observed in the treatment of soil with residential sludge of 2：1 compared to control. The highest growth and biomass of the seedlings as well as the maximum percentage of organic carbon and nutrients （N, P and K） were also recorded in the same combination. Soil added with industrial sludge had a higher concentration of heavy metal than that of residential sludge. The highest concentrations of heavy metals were found in soil added with industrial sludge of 1：1. It is recommended that soil added with residential sludge of 2：1 provide good condition for better seed germination and growth ofA. auriculiformis seedlings in degraded forest soil.

Effect of Hall current on mHD natural convection flow from vertical permeable flat plate with uniform surface heat flux

The effect of the Hall current on the magnetohydrodynamic （mHD） natural convection flow from a vertical permeable flat plate with a uniform heat flux is analyzed in the presence of a transverse magnetic *** is assumed that the induced magnetic field is negligible compared with the imposed magnetic *** boundary layer equations are reduced to a suitable form by employing the free variable formulation （FVF） and the stream function formulation （SFF）.The parabolic equations obtained from FVF are numerically integrated with the help of a straightforward finite difference ***,the nonsimilar system of equations obtained from SFF is solved by using a local nonsimilarity method,for the whole range of the local transpiration parameter ζ.Consideration is also given to the regions where the local transpiration parameter ζ is small or large ***,in these particular regions,solutions are acquired with the aid of a regular perturbation *** effects of the magnetic field m and the Hall parameter m on the local skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number coefficient are graphically shown for smaller values of the Prandtl number P r （= 0.005,0.01,0.05）.Furthermore,the velocity and temperature profiles are also drawn from various values of the local transpiration parameter ζ.

Fabrication of Bi_2O_3/TiO_2nanocomposites and their applications to the degradation of pollutants in air and water under visible-light

A nanoheterojunction composite photocatalyst Bi2O3/TiO2 working under visible-light （λ≥ 420 nm） was prepared by combining two semiconductors Bi2O3 and TiO2 varying the Bi2O3/TiO2 molar ratio. maleic acid was employed as an organic binder to unite Bi2O3 and TiO2 nanoparticles. The SEm, TEm, XRD and diffuse reflectance spectra were utilized to characterize the prepared Bi2O3/TiO2 nanoheterojunction. The nanocomposite exhibited unusual high photocatalytic activity in decomposing 2-propanol in gas phase and phenol in aqueous phase and, evolution of CO2 under visible light irradiation while the end members exhibited low photocatalytic activity. The composite was optimized to 5 mol% Bi2O3/TiO2. The remarkable high photocatalytic efficiency originates from the unique relative energy band position of Bi2O3 and TiO2 as well as the absorption of visible light by Bi2O3.

Conduction-radiation effect on natural convection flow in fluid-saturated non-Darcy porous medium enclosed by non-isothermal walls

The combined effect of conduction-convection-radiation on natural convec- tion flow of an optically thick Newtonian fluid with gray radiant properties, confined in a porous media square cavity with Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer drag is studied numeri- cally. For a gray fluid, Rosseland diffusion approximation is considered. It is assumed that （i） the temperature of the left vertical wall varies linearly with height, （ii） the right vertical and top walls are at a lower temperature, and （iii） the bottom wall is uniformly-heated. The governing equations are solved using the alternate direct implicit method together with the successive over relaxation technique. The investigation of the effect of governing parameters, namely, the Forschheimer resistance （F）, the temperature difference （A）, and the Plank number （Rd）, on the flow pattern and heat transfer characteristics is carried out. It can be seen that the reduction of flow and heat transfer occur as the Forschheimer resistance is increased. On the other hand, both the flow strength and heat transfer in- crease as the temperature ratio A is increased.
