This article focuses on the experimental and numerical study of an industrial prototype furnace intended for the production of ceramics in order to improve the energy efficiency and therefore optimize the fuel consumption and the corresponding carbon dioxide *** order to understand the thermal behavior from which stems the energy efficiency of the experimental prototype,we establish in this work,a simplified modeling allowing to establish a mathematical model describing the thermal behavior of the *** model is able to accurately predict the spatial and temporal distribution of the temperature at each point of the furnace to control the firing of the refractory product so that the final product is of good quality in terms of resistance and *** addition,the power consumed by the prototype must be optimized in order to reduce energy and environmental *** particular,this efficient technology has allowed us to save 83% of energy used in the traditional furnace and to reduce 87.36% of the relative carbon dioxide *** simulation of the mathematical model made it possible to compare the numerical results with the experimental measurements obtained by the prototype as well as to validate the model and to adjust the heat transfer parameters.

Chemical composition of mentha suaveolens and Pinus halepensis essential oils and their antibacterial and antioxidant activities

Objective: To determin the chemical compounds of mentha suaveolens(m. suaveolens) and Pinus halepensis(P. halepensis) essential oils(Eos) and evaluate their antioxidant and antibacterial activities. methods: The chemical composition of P. halepensis and m. suaveolens EOs was determined by GC-mS analysis. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH,ABTS and FRAP assays. The antibacterial effect was tested against 6 bacterial strains using the well diffusion method and micro-dilution assay. Results: The major components of P. halepensis EOs were β-caryophyllene(28.04%),myrcene(23.81%) and α-pinene(12.02%). However,piperitenone oxid(56.28%),piperitenone(11.64%) and pulegone(6.16%) were the major components of m. suaveolens EOs. m. suaveolens EOs showed remarkable antioxidant activities compared with P. halepensis EOs,showing antioxidant capacity values of IC50=(64.76±2.24) μg/mL,IC50=(82.73±3.34) μg/mL,and IC50=(93.35±4.45) μg/mL,revealed by DPPH,ABTS and FRAP assays,respectively. However,P. halepensis EOs showed interesting antibacterial effects against all bacterial strains. The most sensible strains to P. halepensis EOs were Staphylococcus aureus [(34.00±0.50) mm],Listeria monocytogenes [(31.00±1.50)] mm and Proteus mirabilis [(29.00±2.25)mm]. Furthermore,the lowest minimal inhibitory concentration(mIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration(mBC) values were revealed by P. halepensis EOs against Staphylococcus aureus [mIC=mBC=0.125%(v/v)] and Listeria monocytogenes [mIC=mBC=0.25%(v/v)]. Conclusions: P. halepensis and m. suaveolens EOs contain bioactive compounds that could have potential applications against bacterial infections and oxidative stress related diseases as well as for food conservation. However,further investigations are necessary to isolate and investigate the action mechanisms of these bioactive compounds.

Vertex angles effects in the energy absorption of axially crushed kenaf fibre-epoxy reinforced elliptical composite cones

Experimental quasi-static crushing tests were conducted by using a universal testing machine format kenaf-epoxy composite elliptical cones. The work focused on the vertex angle's effects on energy absorption capability; the vertex angles vary from 0° to 24° in 6 increments. The failure modes of the kenaf fibre epoxy composite elliptical cones were observed utilising delegate photos taken during the quasistatic crushing test. Load-deformation curves and deformation histories of typical specimens are presented and discussed. moreover, the effects of cone vertex angles on the load carrying capacity and the energy absorption capability are also discussed. The results show that the energy absorption abilities significantly influence the ellipticity vertex angle as the load carrying capacity. We concluded that the quasi-static axial crushing behaviour of elliptical mat laminated composite cones is strongly affected by their structural geometry and the specific energy absorbed by the composite elliptical cones with vertex angles of 6°, 12°, 18°, and 24°, which is more than an elliptical cone with the vertex angle of 0°(the elliptical tube) at any given deformation. However, the specific energy absorption for the elliptical composite cone showed a positive correlation, i.e., the more the angle increased, the more energy was absorbed. In this regard, an elliptical composite cone with a 24° angle exhibited the best energy absorption capability.

microalloying elements in high-strength low-alloy steels, such as Nb, Ti and V, precipitate during hot-rolling processes. On the basis of classical theory of nucleation and growth, quanti- tative modeling of isothermal precipitation was developed, which was tested by the stress rela- xation method, the calculated precipitation-time-temperature curve is in good agreements with the measured results, then the model was applied to predict the precipitation behavior during continuous cooling.

A Simple and Unified model for Spanwise mixing in multistage Axial Flow Compressors

A basic equation system for meridional throughflow fields in multistage axial flow compressors has been deduced, containing many unknown correlation terms,which describe different kinds of spanwise mixing mechanism in a unified *** equation system shows that spanwise mixing of meridional flows in compressors is attributed to three kinds of mechanism:molecular motion,turbulent diffusion,and circumferential non-uniformities,the last of which includes secondary flow effects and *** the equation system unifies the two models for spanwise mixing analyses by Adkins & Smith (1981) and Gallimore & Cumpsty (1986).With three kinds of apparent mixing coefficients defined and introduced into the basic equation system,a novel,much simpler equation system,without additional unknown correlation terms included,has been *** novel equa- tion system makes throughflow computations including mixing far easier for multistage *** has been rigorously shown that these apparent mixing coefficients contain full information of all the three kinds of mixing mechanism,so that the simpler equation system can also be taken as a unified model for meridional flows with all the kinds of the mixing *** of the flow through multistage machines have been made by incorporating the new model into a streamline curvature throughflow calculation method and the improved agreement with experimental data has been *** is believed that the simpler equation system can be applied to the flows not only in subsonic but in transonic and supersonic compressors if an appropriate model is proposed for the apparent mixing coefficients.

EVOLUTION OF AS-CAST mICROSTRUCTURES OF 356 ALUmINIUm ALLOY CAST BY LIQUIDUS CASTING

A new method (liquidus casting) was used for 356 Al alloy semi-solid slurry making. The structures of 356 Al alloy cast by a Fe mould and semi-continuous casting machine at different temperatures were investigated. How the globular grains form was also discussed. The results show that either being cast by single Fe mould or semi-continuous machine, the micro structures are not conventional dendrites but fine and net-globular grains. The average gram size is smaller than 30μm and suitable enough for thixoforming, meanwhile it can improve the mechanical properties of following products. Under the suitable casting velocity and cooling intensity, most of global grains prolong their global growth and collide with each other before dendritic growth because of the large amount of the nucleation sites.

Aerodynamic load control on a dynamically pitching wind turbine airfoil using leading-edge protuberance method

The aerodynamic loads of wind turbine blades are substantially affected by dynamic stall induced by the variations of the angle of attack of local airfoil *** purpose of the present study is to explore the effect of leading-edge protuberances on the fluctuation of the aerodynamic performances for wind turbine airfoil during dynamic *** experimental investigation is carried out by a direct force measurement technique employing force balance at a Reynolds number Re=2×*** phase-averaged and instantaneous aerodynamic loads of the pitching airfoil,including the baseline and the wavy airfoil,are presented and *** phase-averaged results indicate that the effects of dynamic stall for the wavy airfoil can be delayed or minimized compared to the baseline airfoil,and the negative damping area of the wavy airfoil is significant decreased in full-stall *** effects of leading-edge protuberances are more notable at a higher reduced *** the instantaneous aerodynamic loads of the wavy airfoil,there is an observable reduction in fluctuations compared with baseline ***,spectral analysis is applied to quantitatively undercover the nonstationary features of the instantaneous aerodynamic *** is found that the leading edge protuberances can reduce the harmonics of the aerodynamic force signal,and enhance the stability of the aerodynamic loads under different reduced *** conclusion,leading-edge protuberances are found effective to reduce the fluctuation characteristics of the aerodynamic loads during the dynamic stall process,and help to improve the stability and prolong the service life of the wind turbine blades.

Updated Kimura-Takemoto classification of atrophic gastritis

BACKGROUND The Updated Sydney system for visual evaluation of gastric mucosal atrophy viaendoscopic observation is subject to sampling error and interobserver *** Kimura-Takemoto classification system was developed to overcome *** compare the morphological classification of atrophic gastritis between theKimura-Takemoto system and the Updated Sydney *** total of 169 patients with atrophic gastritis were selected according to diagnosisby the visual endoscopic Kimura-Takemoto method. Following the UpdatedKimura-Takemoto classification system, one antrum biopsy and five gastriccorpus biopsies were taken according to the visual stages of the Kimura-Takemoto system. The Updated Kimura-Takemoto classification system was thenapplied to each and showed 165 to have histological mucosal atrophy;theremaining 4 patients had no histological evidence of atrophy in any biopsy. The Updated Kimura-Takemoto classification was verified as a referencemorphological method and applied for the diagnosis of atrophic gastritis. Addingone more biopsy from the antrum to the six biopsies according to the Updated Kimura-Takemoto classification, constitutes the updated combined Kimura-Takemoto classification and Sydney *** sensitivity for degree of mucosal atrophy assessed by the Updated Sydneysystem was 25% for mild, 36% for moderate, and 42% for severe, when comparedwith the Updated Kimura-Takemoto classification of atrophic gastritis formorphological diagnosis. Four types of multifocal atrophic gastritis wereidentified: sequential uniform (type 1;in 28%), sequential non-uniform (type 2;in7%), diffuse uniform (type 3;in 23%), diffuse non-uniform (type 4;in 24%), and"alternating atrophic – non-atrophic" (type 5;in 18%). The pattern of the spread ofatrophy, sequentially from the antrum to the cardiac segment of the stomach,which was described by the Updated Kimura-Takemoto system, washistologically confirmed in 82% of cases ***
