The consumption of contaminated food may cause serious illnesses,and traditional methods to detect Escherichia coli are still associated with long waiting times and high costs given the necessity to transport samples to specialized *** is a need to develop new technologies that allow cheap,fast,and direct monitoring at the site of ***,in this work,we developed optical immunosensors for the selective detection of ***,based on liquid crystal technology,whose molecules can align in different manners depending on the boundary conditions (such as substrates) as well as the environment that they *** glass substrate was functionalized with *** antibody using cysteamine as an intermediate,and a vertical alignment was imposed on the liquid crystal molecules by using DmOAP during *** presence of bacteria disrupts the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules,changing the intensity of light emerging between cross polarizers,measured using a polarized optical microscope and a *** was possible to detect *** in suspensions in the concentration range from 2.8 cells/mL to 2.8×10^(9) cells∕*** was also evaluated,and the sensors were used to analyze contaminated water samples.A prototype was developed to allow faster,in-situ,and easier analysis avoiding bulky instruments.

Assessment of the piroxicam-incited model of synchronized colitis in T-cell receptor alpha chain-deficient mice

BackgroundA multitude of mouse models are utilized to emulate and study intestinal inflammation. T-cell receptor alpha chain (TCR alpha)-deficient mice are used as a model of spontaneous colitis that has similarities with human ulcerative colitis. However, colitis is triggered late in the life of the mouse (age: 4-5 months), and inflammation does not develop at the same time in different mice. A previously conducted study reported that the administration of the drug piroxicam triggered predictable and early colitis in TCR alpha-deficient mice at the age of 6-8 weeks. However, a detailed characterization of ensuing inflammation was not *** conducted an in-depth examination of piroxicam-triggered colitis in TCR alpha-deficient mice, with emphasis on spatial histopathologic changes and analysis of expression of inflammatory markers. furthermore, we tested amelioration of colitis with *** confirmed that piroxicam induced a time-prescribed colitis and did so in the proximal colon as well as the cecum of TCR alpha-deficient mice. Piroxicam administration was observed to induce epithelial hyperplasia, goblet cell loss, and leukocyte infiltration with occasional ulceration. A Swiss roll technique was used to examine the colon and cecum in its entirety. Importantly, we observed that inflammation was multifocal segmental, with areas of tissue damage in between healthy tissue. In addition, we observed variability in the severity of inflammation among replicate animals and treatments, and that the administration of dexamethasone only partially ameliorated inflammation in the proximal *** consistently induced multifocal segmental colitis in the proximal colon and cecum, although the degree of inflammation was reduced in the latter. Dear Editor,This letter proposes a parameter-free multiple kernel clustering(mKC)method by using shifted Laplacian *** mKC can effectively cluster nonlinear data,but it faces two main challenges:1)As an unsupervised method,it is up against parameter problems which makes the parameters intractable to tune and is unfeasible in real-life applications;2)Only considers the clustering information,but ignores the interference of noise within Laplacian.

Heat and mass transfer of a circular porous moist object located in a triangular shaped vented cavity

Heat and mass transfer of a circular-shaped porous moist object inside a two-dimensional triangle cavity is investigated by using finite element *** porous object is considered to be a moist food sample,located in the middle of the cavity with inlet and outlet ports with different configurations of inlet/outlet *** drying performance is numerically assessed for different values of Reynolds numbers(between 50 and 250),dry air inlet temperature(between 40 and 80℃)and different locations of the *** is observed that changing the port locations has significant impacts on the flow recirculaitons inside the triangular chamber while convective drying performance is highly *** moisture content reduces with longer time and for higher Reynolds number(Re)*** P4 where inlet and outlet ports are in the middle of the walls provides the most effective configuration in terms of convective drying performance while the worst case is seen for P1 case where inlet and outlet are closer to the corners of the *** is a 192% difference between the moisture reduction of these two cases at Re=250,T=80℃ and t=120 min.

Inflow and outflow permeability tests in a very soft clay under low stresses

In situ inflow and outflow permeability tests with the BAT probe at SarapuíII soft clay test site are presented.A description of the BAT permeability test is provided,discussing its advantages and shortcomings,especially in the case of very soft clays under low *** pressures were monitored during probe installation and were found to be slightly lower than piezocone u2 pore pressures,consistent with the position of the *** role of filter tip saturation was investigated after the usual saturation procedure provided an unsatisfactory pore pressure response during probe *** show that the vacuum saturation procedure provides adequate response during installation and increases the reliability of the coefficient of permeability determination in early *** inflow and outflow tests yielded similar results,indicating that careful execution of the test can lead to good test repeatability regardless of the loading *** sequences of alternated inflow and outflow tests have yielded similar results,indicating that soil reconsolidation and filter clogging were negligible in the tests *** are presented concerning the relationship between index parameters and the in situ coefficient of permeability for SarapuíII clay,which plot outside the range of existing databases.

Endoplasmic reticulum stress,autophagy,neuroinflammation,and sigma 1 receptors as contributors to depression and its treatment

The etiological factors contributing to depression and other neuropsychiatric disorders are largely undefined. Endoplasmic reticulum stress pathways and autophagy are well-defined mechanisms that play critical functions in recognizing and resolving cellular stress and are possible targets for the pathophysiology and treatment of psychiatric and neurologic illnesses. An increasing number of studies indicate the involvement of endoplasmic reticulum stress and autophagy in the control of neuroinflammation, a contributing factor to multiple neuropsychiatric illnesses. Initial inflammatory triggers induce endoplasmic reticulum stress, leading to neuroinflammatory responses. Subsequently, induction of autophagy by neurosteroids and other signaling pathways that converge on autophagy induction are thought to participate in resolving neuroinflammation. The aim of this review is to summarize our current understanding of the molecular mechanisms governing the induction of endoplasmic reticulum stress, autophagy, and neuroinflammation in the central nervous system. Studies focused on innate immune factors, including neurosteroids with anti-inflammatory roles will be reviewed. In the context of depression, animal models that led to our current understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying depression will be highlighted, including the roles of sigma 1 receptors and pharmacological agents that dampen endoplasmic reticulum stress and associated neuroinflammation.

frequency-dependent viscoelasticity effects on the wave attenuation performance of multi-layered periodic foundations

In this paper,layered periodic foundations(LPfs)are numerically examined for their responses to longitudinal and transverse modes in the time and frequency *** different unit-cells,i.e.,2-layer,4-layer,and 6-layer unit-cells,comprising concrete/rubber,concrete/rubber/steel/rubber,and concrete/rubber/steel/rubber/lead/rubber materials,respectively,are taken into ***,the viscoelasticity behavior of the rubber is modeled with two factors,i.e.,a frequency-independent(fI)loss factor and a linear frequency-dependent(fD)loss *** the extraction of the complex dispersion curves and the identification of the band gaps(BGs),the simulations of wave transmission in the time and frequency domains are performed using the COmSOL *** parametric studies evaluate the effects of the rubber viscoelasticity models on the dispersion curves and the wave transmission for the longitudinal and transverse *** results show that considering the rubber viscoelasticity enhances the wave attenuation ***,the transverse-mode damping is more sensitive to the viscoelasticity model than its longitudinal *** 6-layer unit-cell LPf exhibits the lowest BG,ranging from 4.8 Hz to 6.5 Hz.

Understanding the neighborhoods’in-between spaces on spatial perception,social interaction,and security

This study reflects on the impact that the neighborhoods’in-between spaces have on:spatial perception,social interaction,and *** sites,characterized by their abandonment and deterioration,can also be seen as crucial spaces of opportunity for cities,in the architectural,urban and landscape *** paper aims to analyze the sociospatial relationships in the neighborhoods’in-between spaces and examine the impact of inbetween space configuration on urban *** investigation draws on a survey of perception to residents about the requirements for a suitable social interaction in these *** study was developed in a neighborhood in the city periphery,characterized by their social dynamics and location in a nature conservation *** findings indicate that the appropriation process,activities,and collective practices are dependent on the spatial legibility,in this case when this increases,gives rise to improve the habitability and the rehabilitation of the in-between ***,the lack of design on in-between spaces substantially affects the use of these spaces and the social interaction among residents.

Real-time indoor camera localization is a significant problem in indoor robot navigation and surveillance *** scene can change during the image sequence and plays a vital role in the localization performance of robotic applications in terms of accuracy and *** research proposed a real-time indoor camera localization system based on a recurrent neural network that detects scene change during the image *** annotated image dataset trains the proposed system and predicts the camera pose in *** system mainly improved the localization performance of indoor cameras by more accurately predicting the camera *** also recognizes the scene changes during the sequence and evaluates the effects of these *** system achieved high accuracy and real-time *** scene change detection process was performed using visual rhythm and the proposed recurrent deep architecture,which performed camera pose prediction and scene change impact ***,this study proposed a novel real-time localization system for indoor cameras that detects scene changes and shows how they affect localization performance.
