Objective:To detect the in vitro total phenolics,flavonoids contents and antioxidant activity of essential oil,various organic extracts from the leaves of tropical medicinal plant Tetrastigma from ***:The dry powder leaves of Tetrastigma were extracted with different organic solvent such as *** acetate,chloroform,butanol and aqueous *** total phenolic and total flavonoids contents of the essential oil and various organic extracts such as hexane,ethyl acetate,chloroform,butanol and aqueous ethanol were determined by Folin-Ciocalteu method and the assayed antioxidant activity was determined in vitro models such as antioxidant capacity by radical scavenging activity usingα,α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) ***:The total phenolic contents of the essential oil and different extracts as gallic acid equivalents were found to be highest in methanol extract(386.22 mg/g) followed by ethyl acetate(190.89 mg/g).chloroform(175.89 mg/g).hexane(173.44 mg/g).and Imtanol extract (131.72 mg/g) and the phenolic contents not detected in essential *** antioxidant capacity of the essential oil and different extracts as ascorbic acid standard was in the order of methanol extract>ethyl acetate extract>chloroform>butanol>hexane extract also the antioxidant activity was not detected in essential ***:The findings show that the extent of antioxidant activity of the essential oil and all extracts are in accordance with the amount of phenolics present in that *** of Tetrastigma being rich in phenolics may provide a good source of antioxidant.

Isolation and structural elucidation of antifungal compounds from Curcuma amada

Objective: To isolate and identify the antifungal compounds from Curcuma amada. methods: The antifungal activity was measured by the diameter of colonies grown on Petri dish,microscopic observation,and CLSI microdilution methods. The antifungal compounds were isolated through bioactivity guided purification by using silica gel and high-performance liquid chromatography. Structural identification of the antifungal compounds was conducted using 1 H NmR,13 C NmR,and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Results: The purified antifungal compounds were zederone and furanodienone. These two compounds showed dose-dependent antifungal activity against Fusarium solani sensu lato. The concentration required for 50% growth inhibition(IC50) of FSSL ranged from 115 to 129 μm and 82 to 91 μm for zederone and furanodienone,respectively. Conclusion: This study suggested that the isolated compounds from Curcuma amada could be promising natural antifungal agents to control the diseases caused by Fusarium solani sensu lato.

Objective:To determine free radical scavenging activity and active chemical ingredients of different plant crude extracts of mentha piperita(***).methods:The dried powder leaves of *** were extracted with polar organic solvent by Soxhlet *** crude extract and its fractions of hexane,chloroform,ethyl acetate and butanol crude extracts were *** antioxidant activity of different crude extracts from *** was carried out by DPPH method with minor modification,and the active chemical ingredients of different plant crude extracts of *** were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-mS).Results:Qualitative analysis of different polarities crude extracts by GC-mS found different types of active organic *** antioxidant activity of different crude extracts were found to be in the order of chloroform extract>butanol extract>ethyl acetate extract>hexane extract>methanol *** identified compounds in the plant crude extracts by GC-mS were biologically ***:Therefore,the isolation,purification,identification and characterization of bioactive compounds from various crude extracts of *** might have ecological significance.
