A revised generic classification of the jelly lichens, Collemataceae

Phylogenetic studies have shown the need for a revised circumscription of generic boundaries in the jelly lichens(Collemataceae).Using a four-marker dataset from a recently published phylogeny of Collemataceae,we tested the monophyly of ten morphologically well-characterized *** achieve this,we performed Bayesian and maximum likelihood *** monophyly of the ten morphological groups was *** order to reconcile molecular and morphological data into a formal classification,we here propose new generic delimitations in *** and Leptogium are re-circumscribed and six old generic names are resurrected to accommodate the Collema Crispum-group(Blennothallia),the Collema Tenax-group(Enchylium),the Collema Cristatum-group(Lathagrium),the Collema Occultatum-group(Rostania),the former small Leptogium species(Scytinium),and Leptogium diffractum(Pseudoleptogium).In addition,two new genera are described to accommodate Collema multipartitum(Callome)and the Collema Italicum-group(Paracollema).The presence/absence of a eucortex,which was earlier used as the cardinal character to define genera in the family,is still useful,but only in combination with other traits such as thallus habit(size),lobe size,ascospore characteristics,thallus anatomical structure,and habitat preference.A key to the genera is *** are designated for Collema marginale Hoffm.,Synechoblastus nigrescens(Huds.)Trevis.,Eucollema(Cromb.)Horw.,Collema section Enchylium Ach.,Collema section Lathagrium Ach.,Collema *** Ach.,Collema section Scytinium Ach.,Collemodium *** Lamy,and Homodium *** Olivier.

A Rapid Parameter of Enzyme-Treated Cellulosic material Revealed by Reducing Sugar Release

This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of enzymes in purifying and reducing the degree of polymerization of cellulose for the production of dissolving *** goal was to determine the contributions of xylanase(X)and endoglucanase(Eg)in the treatment of pulp,specifically by quantifying the formation of soluble and insoluble reducing sugars using the dinitrosalycilic acid(DNS)***,the release of soluble reducing sugars(RSSol)was enhanced after xylanase treatment,while endoglucanase(Eg)treatment led to changes in insoluble reducing sugars(RSIns).The maximum synergism was observed for RSIns when a high ratio of endoglucanase to xylanase(320Eg:5X/g pulp)was *** relative contribution of endoglucanase to RSins was determined to be 15.6%of the total reducing *** viscosity of pulps treated with xylanase decreased only by 7%,whereas endoglucanase treatment significantly reduced viscosity by 45%.modifications in the particle size were observed after pulp treatment with the combination of endoglucanase and *** summary,the DNS test is a rapid and effective method for evaluating the efficiency of enzyme treatments on *** measurement of RSIns correlates with changes in pulp viscosity to different extents,providing valuable insights into the effectiveness of enzyme treatments.

Effects of fertilization on radial growth of Pinus pinea explored hourly using dendrometers

Background Stone pine(Pinus pinea), a drought-resistant species, has significant socio-economic benefits and increasing interest for the establishment of productive plantations in several countries, especially in a climate change context. monitoring hourly stem diameter variations contributes to the understanding of the tree-growth response to changes in environmental conditions and management. By monitoring the diameter expansion of tree stems, high-resolution band dendrometers were used to study the development of adult trees growing in a semi-arid coastal environment of central Chile under fertilized and non-fertilized soil conditions through the span of a *** Short cycles(g cycles(> 28 h) occurred at a higher frequency in fertilized trees(16 vs 6). most of the circadian cycles were regular(24 ± 3 h). The longest cycle duration(59 h) was observed in fertilized trees during spring. In all seasons, each phase of the circadian cycle, especially during the stem diameter increment phase(P3, irreversible growth), started earlier in fertilized than in control trees. P3 duration was significantly longer in fertilized than in control trees in springtime. The maximum shrinkage(P1) was observed in summer for both treatments. Stem diameter increased faster in fer-tilized than in control trees throughout the year, with the highest accumulation occurring in spring and the lowest in autumn. The daily variability pattern showed lower growth under high temperature across *** This study highlights the importance of fertilization in enhancing stone pine diameter growth. This cultural practice should be further explored to contribute to the mitigation of climate change effects in semi-arid environments.
