Introduction: Splenic cysts are uncommon and usually do not generate signs and symptoms, being diagnosed by incidental findings. Case report: A 35-year-old, female patient attended the Luiz Gioseffi Jannuzzi School Hospital (HELGJ) presenting episodes of vomiting and abdominal pain in the left hypochondrium. She was hospitalized for diagnostic investigation. Computed tomography showed the splenic cyst. The procedure was the surgical approach by laparotomy with splenectomy. Histopathological confirmed the diagnosis. Discussion: Compared to the scarce reports in literature, the case described presented typical epidemiology and clinical features. Conclusions: Given the rarity of this pathology cases, it is essential to report these in order to elucidate the specificities and also to discuss diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

AIm： To evaluate the prevalence and clinical characteristics of Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease （NAFLD） among asymptomatic Brazilian adolescents. mETHoDS： Transversal observational study included asymptomatic adolescents with central obesity from private and public schools in Salvador-Bahia, northeastern Brazil. The children answered a questionnaire that in- cluded age, gender, race, and medical history, and were submitted to a complete physical exam and abdominal ultrasound. Biochemical exams included： ALT, AST, GGT, C reactive protein （CRP）, fasting glucose, insulin, cholesterol and triglycerides. Criteria for NAFLD included： the presence of steatosis in ultrasound and/or high level of ALT, negative or occasional historic of intake of alcohol （4 140 g/wk）, negative investigation for hepatitis A, B, C, auto-immune hepatitis, Wilson disease and ***： From october, 2005 to october, 2006, the study included 1801 subjects between 11 and 18 years of age and a mean age of 13.7± 2.0 years. one hun- dred ninety-nine had central obesity. The prevalence of NAFLD was 2.3%, most of whom were male and white. Insulin resistance （IR） was observed in 22.9% of them and had positive correlations with ALT and GGT （P 〈 0.05）. Elevated CRP was observed in 6.9% of the cases; however, it was not associated with WC, IR or liver enzymes. CoNCLUSIoN： The prevalence of NAFLD in Brazilian adolescents was low. The ethnicity may have influence this frequency in the population studied, which had a large proportion of African descendents.

BackgroundTriatomines in Latin America are natural Chagas disease (ChD) vectors. Triatomine domiciliation is one of the main factors increasing the occurrence risk of this disease in humans. There are 66 triatomine species in Brazil, with three genera of significant epidemiological importance—Panstrongylus, Rhodnius, and Triatoma. Among the Triatoma species, Triatoma williami, a wild species, has been reported in Goiás, mato Grosso, and mato Grosso do Sul. In the Barra do Garças, mato Grosso, the invasion by triatomines has been reported, with T. williami being the most common species. This study aimed to survey triatomine fauna and determine the Trypanosoma cruzi natural infection rates in triatomines in the urban area of Barra do Garças, mato Grosso, *** specimens were sampled by passive surveillance or active search by agents combating endemic diseases from 2019 to 2020. A parasitological feces diagnosis was performed to detect the presence of T. cruzi after the specimens were identified. Concerning T. cruzi identification, molecular diagnosis and genetic sequencing were performed to determine the strain, also called discrete typing units (DTUs).ResultsThe 211 triatomines were collected, distributed in specimens of T. williami (84.4%), P. geniculatus (3.3%), P. diasi (1.4%), and R. neglectus (10.9%). Two colonies of T. williami were found through morphological analyses. These insects were sampled inside domiciles in an urban area neighboring Jardim Pitaluga (15° 51′57.7″ N, 052° 16′ 04.5 E). The records were sampled in September 2019 and January 2021. The rate of natural infection by T. cruzi was 39.4%. Two T. williami specimens from the sampled colonies were positive for the T. cruzi strain DTU *** is the first time that T. williami has been confirmed in an urban area of Barra do Garças, mato Grosso, Brazil. The present study aims affinity between available concentrations of phosphorus, micronutrients (Cu, Zn and mn) and stable carbon (SC) in archaeological black earth (ABE) from area “Ilha de Terra”/Caxiuanã—Pará. The relevance of this study refers especially to the determination of carbon concentrations (total, oxidable and semi-labile carbon) directly associated with those of pyrogenic carbon, common in ABE, which should add their contributions to the understanding of soil organic matter recalcitrance. Chemical properties such as CEC and base saturation were determined for ABE and subjacent Latossoil. The available concentrations of nutrients were performed from sequential extraction F1 to F5 phases. Phosphorus was obtained by spectrophotometric method and micronutrients by mP-AES. ToC was determined by the combustion method;stable carbon was obtained from thermoxidation method CTo-375. The following results were obtained from ABE: CEC effective = 21 to 28 (cmolc·L-1);base saturation = 58% to 69%;Carbon concentrations (%): ToC = 2.95 to 3.94;SC = 0.25 to 0.88;semi-labile carbon = 1.75 to 3.63;oxidable = 2.11 to 3.65;inorganic carbon 0.01 to 0.38;P2o5 concentrations (mg·kg-1) in the ABE phases F3 (Fe-mn oxides, F4 (organic ) and F5 (residual)) in the following order: 35 to 65;200 to 400;140 to 230. It was concluded that the chemical properties in ABE from Ilha de Terra site fall within the range of fertile and the high concentrations of phosphorus are biogenic origin. Phases F3 and F4 are those considered nutrient stocks from ABE studied area.

objective: To evaluate the synergic effects of a novel oral supplement formulation, containing prebiotics,yeast b-glucans, minerals and silymarin(Silybum marianum), on lipid and glycidic metabolism, inflammatory and mitochondrial proteins of the liver, in control and high-fat diet-induced obese ***: After an acclimation period, 32 male C57 BL/6 mice were divided into the following groups:nonfat diet(NFD) vehicle, NFD supplemented, high-fat diet(HFD) vehicle and HFD supplemented. The vehicle and experimental formulation were administered orally by gavage once a day during the last four weeks of the diet(28 consecutive days). We then evaluated energy homeostasis, inflammation, and mitochondrial protein expression in these groups of ***: After four weeks of supplementation, study groups experienced reduced glycemia, dyslipidemia,fat, and hepatic fibrosis levels. Additionally, proliferator-activated receptor-α, AmP-activated protein kinase-1α, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ co-activator-1α, and mitochondrial transcription factor A expression levels were augmented;however, levels of inhibitor of nuclear factor-κB kinase subunit a and p65 nuclear factor-κB expression, and oxidative markers were reduced. Notably, the cortisol/C-reactive protein ratio, a well-characterized marker of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis immune interface status, was found to be modulated by the ***: We discovered that the novel supplement was able to modify different antioxidant, metabolic and inflammatory pathways, improving the energy homeostasis and inflammatory status, and consequently alleviated hepatic steatosis.

objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the use of propinox hydrochloride and scopolamine hydrochloride in patients presenting abdominal colic (abdominal pain), in terms of treatment efficacy and tolerability. material & methods: This was an analytical, retrospective, comparative study based on hospital records of outpatients treated at Serviço de Clínica médica do Hospital das Clínicas Costantino otaviano (HCTCo) and at Santa Casa de misericórdia do Rio de Janeiro, from 1988-1998. Subjects were divided into two groups: patients from Group 1 were treated with propinox hydrochloride, while patients from Group 2 were treated with scopolamine hydrochloride. Statistical analysis was performed using GraphPad Prism version 5.0. For comparison of categorical variables, we used the chi-squared or Fisher’s test, while continuous variables were analyzed using ANoVA or the Student’s T test. Results: A total of 1042 subjects were included, of which 525 were allocated to Group 1 and 517 to Group 2. mean treatment duration was 9.166 days (±4.208) in Group 1 and 8.795 days (±5.052) in Group 2, with no statistically significant difference in treatment duration between the two groups (p = 0.198). All subjects in Group 1 were treated with propinox 10 mg (2 coated tablets, three times per day) while all subjects in Group 2 were treated with scopolamine hydrochloride 10 mg (2 coated tablets, three times per day). There were no statistically significant between-group differences in weight, BmI, heart rate, and respiratory rate at pre- and post-treatment;with the exception of higher post-treatment systolic blood pressure in Group 1, blood pressure measures also remained homogenous. Adverse events were reported among both treatment groups with no significant between-group difference in incidence (p = 0566).
