The aim was to determine whether complaints about side effects made by stage III hypertensive patients undergoing antihypertensive therapy lead to adequate blood pressure control. Forty-eight patients were monitored by a nurse every 15 days over the course of 180 days. At baseline, both groups presented similar SBP (systolic blood pressure) (GA, 196 (5)) mm Hg and GB, 189 (6) mm Hg) and DBP (diastolic blood pressure) (GA, 122 (3) mm Hg and GB, 121 (4) mm Hg). On day 165, after a progressive decline in blood pressure levels, the two groups differed significantly from each other regarding SBP (GA, -16.9 (24) mm Hg and GB, -40.8 (31) mm Hg). At the final follow-up, the patients were allocated to two groups: without complaints (GA) and with (GB) complaints about side effects. complaining about side effects was a.decisive factor for immediate nursing intervention and improved control over BP.

Long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1) analogues marketed for type 2 diabetes(T2D) treatment have been showing positive and protective effects in several different tissues, including pancreas, heart or even brain. This gut secreted hormone plays a potent insulinotropic activity and an important role in maintaining glucose homeostasis. Furthermore, growing evidences suggest the occurrence of several commonalities between T2 D and neurodegenerative diseases, insulin resistance being pointed as a main cause for cognitive decline and increased risk to develop dementia. In this regard, it has also been suggested that stimulation of brain insulin signaling may have a protective role against cognitive deficits. As GLP-1 receptors(GLP-1R) are expressed throughout the central nervous system and GLP-1 may cross the blood-brain-barrier, an emerging hypothesis suggests that they may be promising therapeutic targets against brain dysfunctional insulin signaling-related pathologies. Importantly, GLP-1 actions depend not only on the direct effect mediated by its receptor activation, but also on the gut-brain axis involving an exchange of signals between both tissues via the vagal nerve, thereby regulating numerous physiological functions(e.g., energy homeostasis, glucose-dependent insulin secretion, as well as appetite and weight control). Amongst the incretin/GLP-1 mimetics class of anti-T2 D drugs with an increasingly described neuroprotective potential, the already marketed liraglutide emerged as a GLP-1R agonist highly resistant to dipeptidyl peptidase-4 degradation(thereby having an increased half-life) and whose systemic GLP-1R activity is comparable to that of native GLP-1. Importantly, several preclinical studies showed anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and neuroprotective effects of liraglutide against T2 D, stroke and Alzheimer disease(AD), whereas several clinical trials, demonstrated some surprising benefits of liraglutide on weight loss, microglia in

Since its emergence in 2000, small bowel capsule endoscopy(SBcE) has assumed a pivotal role as an investigation method for small bowel diseases. The Pillcam SB2-ex offers 12 h of battery time, 4 more than the previous version(SB2). Rahman et al recently found that the Pillcam SB2-ex has a significantly increased completion rate, although without higher diagnostic yield, compared with the SB2. We would like to discuss these somewhat surprising results and the new potentialities of the Pillcam SB3 regarding the diagnostic yield of small bowel studies. Pillcam SB3 offers improved image resolution and faster adaptable frame rate over previous versions of SBcE. We recently compared the major duodenal papilla.detection rate obtained with Pillcam SB3 and SB2 as a surrogate indicator of diagnostic yield in the proximal small bowel. The Pillcam SB3 had a significantly higher major duodenal papilla.detection rate than the Pillcam SB2(42.7% vs 24%, P = 0.015). Thus, the most recent version of the Pillcam capsule, SB3, may increase diagnostic yield, particularly in the proximal segments of the small bowel.

Background: With population aging occurring worldwide, promoting climacteric women’s health has become the object of important studies. Purpose: Observing the prevalence of depression in climacteric women and their self-evaluation of the depression factors is the main goal of this study. design: This cross-sectional research is enquiry descriptive. methods: The sample was composed of 48 climacteric women (between 45 and 65 years old) non-selected volunteers, served by the centers for Psycho and Social Attention (cAPS) of Specialized mental medicine, in Sorocaba, via the Beck depression Inventory (BDI) questionnaire. Results: checking the mean and frequency distribution, the climacteric women presented a prevalence of 37.5% of moderate depression (BDIindex = 24.39 ± 3.13), and 47.92% of severe depression (BDIindex = 38.13 ± 6.78). concerning the symptoms, Spearman rank order correlation was found as the highest concerns, hierarchically: indecision (r = 0.72, p conclusions: The prevalence of depression in these cAPS climacteric women was considered very high (86% ranking from moderate to severe) caused mostly by indecision, anhedonia, guilt, crying and self-esteem, followed by inutility, self-criticism and loss of concentration.
