Contribution of phytoecological data to spatialize soil erosion:Application of the RUSLE model in the Algerian atlas

Among the models used to assess water erosion,the RUSLE model is commonly *** makers can act on cover(C-factor)and conservation practice(P-factor)to reduce erosion,with less costly action on soil surface ***,the widespread use of vegetation indices such as NDVI does not allow for a proper assessment of the C-factor in drylands where stones,crusted surfaces and litter strongly influence soil *** sub-factors of C,canopy cover(CC)and soil cover(SC),can be assessed from phytoecological measurements that include gravel-pebbles cover,physical mulch,annual and perennial *** paper introduces a method to calculate the C-factor from phytoecological data and,in combination with remote sensing and a geographic information system(GIS),to map it over large areas.A supervised classification,based on field phytoecological data,is applied to radiometric data from Landsat-8/OLI satellite ***,a C-factor value,whose SC and CC subfactors are directly derived from the phytoecological measurements,is assigned to each land cover *** method and RUSLE are implemented on a pilot region of 3828 km^(2) of the Saharan Atlas,composed of rangelands and steppe formations,and intended to become an *** protective effect against erosion by gravel-pebbles(50%)is more than twice that of vegetation(23%).The C-factor derived from NDVI(0.67)is higher and more evenly distributed than that combining these two contributions(0.37 on average).Finally,priorities are proposed to decision-makers by crossing the synthetic map of erosion sensitivity and a decision matrix of management priorities.

In this paper,we investigate the existence of solutions and analyze the large-time behavior for Gurtin-Maccamy population model involving conformable fractional *** a preliminary step,we construct a generic structure of the solution associated with our proposed model by utilizing some basic properties and tools of conformable fractional *** establish the existence of a unique solution of the given model with the given initial *** last,by using the upper and lower solutions for the characteristic equation,we define the upper and lower boundaries for the obtained solution and describe the large-time behavior of the total population.

Introduction: Anemia in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIV) is a major health problem. Although anemia often responds to combination antiretroviral therapy, many patients remain anemic despite treatment, and such persistent anemia continues to adversely affect prognosis, regardless of drug response. Scientists have identified some of the factors involved. However, the mechanisms put in place have not been effective in overcoming them. Examples include the withdrawal of zidovudine from antiretroviral treatment lines, iron and folate supplementation, etc. Anemia is still a major concern in HIV-positive patients. The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence of anemia and its associated factors among PLHIV followed up at the outpatient treatment centre (CTA) of the Panzi General Reference Hospital (HGR) in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Method: We conducted a cross-sectional, comparative study of 276 HIV-infected adults on antiretroviral therapy (ART) followed up at the CTA of Panzi HGR. Socio-demographic and nutritional parameters were collected using a survey questionnaire, and clinical assessment and nutritional status were performed at the centre. Hemoglobin, seric albumin and viral load determinations were performed at the HGRP laboratory. We constructed univariate and multivariate logistic regression models to assess factors associated with anemia in people living with HIV/AIDS. Results: We found a prevalence of anemia of 39.4%, including 4.1% severe anemia, 17.7% moderate anemia and 17.5% mild anemia. After multivariate adjustment, the factors associated with anemia in our PLHIV were: moderate undernutrition (aOR = 1.26;95% CI: 1.50 - 4.20;p = 0.001), severe undernutrition (aOR = 115.4;95% CI: 2.04 - 164.52;p = 0.021), hypoalbuminemia (aOR = 2.11;95% CI: 1.87 - 5.10;p = 0.004) and the lower degree of dietary diversity (aOR = 1.56;95% CI: 1.10 - 4.32;p = 0.034). Conclusion: The prevalence of anemia in PLHIV on ART is high.

Isolative Synthesis and Characterization of Cellulose and Cellulose Nanocrystals from Typha angustifolia

The application potential of cellulosic materials in natural composites and other fields needs to be explored to develop innovative, sustainable, lightweight, functional biomass materials that are also environmentally friendly. This study investigated Typha angustifolia (Typha sp.) as a potential new raw material for extracting cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) for application in wastewater treatment composites. Alkaline treatments and bleaching were used to remove cellulose from the stem fibres. The CNCs were then isolated from the recovered cellulose using acid hydrolysis. The study showed a few distinct functional groups (O-H, -C-H, =C-H and C-O, and C-O-C) in the Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) revealed the smooth surface of CPC and CNCs, which resulted from removing lignin and hemicellulose from powdered Typha angustifolia. Based on the crystalline index, the powdered Typha angustifolia, CPC, and CNCs were 42.86%, 66.94% and 77.41%. The loss of the amorphous section of the Typha sp. fibre resulted in a decrease in particle size. It may be inferred from the features of a Typha sp. CNC that CNCs may be employed as reinforcement in composites for wastewater treatment.

Associated Factors with Early Sexual Intercourse among In-School Adolescents in Brazzaville

Background: Early sexual intercourse (ESI) is a global public health problem. In Congo, associated factors with ESI have been under-studied. Objective: To analyse factors associated with early sexual intercourse among in-school adolescents in Brazzaville. Method: A cross-sectional analytic study with three-stage random sampling was carried out from March 2 to June 2, 2022 in Brazzaville secondary and high schools. Adolescents in the selected schools were interviewed about their sexual and social behaviour, and their family and school environment. Multivariate analysis using logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with ESI. The significance level of the p-value was set at 5% and the confidence interval at 95%. Results: Of a total of 1100 adolescents surveyed, 800 (72.7%) had ESI, 98% of them were female. The main reason for early initiation of sexual intercourse was curiosity (81.8%). Non-use of condoms and multiple sexual partnerships were noted respectively in 98.7% and 68.7% of adolescents who had experienced ESI. Female gender (p Conclusion: The prevalence of ESI is high, and the factors identified in this study may help to reduce it.

ECO-BAT: A New Routing Protocol for Energy Consumption Optimization Based on BAT Algorithm in WSN

Wireless sensor network (WSN) has been widely used due to its vastrange of applications. The energy problem is one of the important problems influencingthe complete application. Sensor nodes use very small batteries as a powersource and replacing them is not an easy task. With this restriction, the sensornodes must conserve their energy and extend the network lifetime as long as ***, these limits motivate much of the research to suggest solutions in alllayers of the protocol stack to save energy. So, energy management efficiencybecomes a key requirement in WSN design. The efficiency of these networks ishighly dependent on routing protocols directly affecting the network *** is one of the most popular techniques preferred in routing *** this work we propose a novel energy-efficient protocol for WSN based on a batalgorithm called ECO-BAT (Energy Consumption Optimization with BAT algorithmfor WSN) to prolong the network lifetime. We use an objective function thatgenerates an optimal number of sensor clusters with cluster heads (CH) to minimizeenergy consumption. The performance of the proposed approach is comparedwith Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) and EnergyEfficient cluster formation in wireless sensor networks based on the Multi-Objective Bat algorithm (EEMOB) protocols. The results obtained are interestingin terms of energy-saving and prolongation of the network lifetime.
