Assessing the spatiotemporal malaria transmission intensity with heterogeneous risk factors:A modeling study in Cambodia

Malaria control can significantly benefit from a holistic and precise way of quantitatively measuring the transmission intensity,which needs to incorporate spatiotemporally varying risk *** this study,we conduct a systematic investigation to characterize malaria transmission intensity by taking a spatiotemporal network perspective,where nodes capture the local transmission intensities resulting from dominant vector species,the population density,and land cover,and edges describe the cross-region human mobility *** inferred network enables us to accurately assess the transmission intensity over time and space from available empirical *** study focuses on malaria-severe districts in *** malaria transmission intensities determined using our transmission network reveal both qualitatively and quantitatively their seasonal and geographical characteristics:the risks increase in the rainy season and decrease in the dry season;remote and sparsely populated areas generally show higher transmission intensities than other *** findings suggest that:the human mobility(e.g.,in planting/harvest seasons),environment(e.g.,temperature),and contact risk(coexistences of human and vector occurrence)contribute to malaria transmission in spatiotemporally varying degrees;quantitative relationships between these influential factors and the resulting malaria transmission risk can inform evidence-based tailor-made responses at the right locations and times.

BACKGROUND The incidence of acute myocardial infarction(AMI)is rising,with cardiac rupture accounting for approximately 2%of deaths in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI).Ventricular free wall rupture(FWR)occurs in approximately 2%of AMI patients and is notably rare in patients with *** of cardiac rupture include left ventricular FWR,ventricular septal rupture,and papillary muscle *** FWR usually leads to acute cardiac tamponade or electromechanical dissociation,where standard resuscitation efforts may not be *** septal rupture and papillary muscle rupture often result in refractory heart failure,with mortality rates over 50%,even with surgical or percutaneous repair *** SUMMARY We present a rare case of an acute non-STEMI patient who suffered sudden FWR causing cardiac tamponade and loss of consciousness immediate before undergoing coronary *** resuscitation and emergency open-heart repair along with coronary artery bypass grafting resulted in successful patient *** This case emphasizes the risks of AMI complications,shares a successful treatment scenario,and discusses measures to prevent such complications.

Antibodies against analogous heptad repeat peptide HR212 of Newcastle Disease Virus inhibit virus-cell membrane fusion

Membrane fusion is a key step in enveloped virus entry. Highly conserved heptad repeat regions (HR1 and HR2) of Newcastle disease virus (NDV) fusion protein (F) are critical functional domains for viral membrane fusion. They display different conformations in the membrane fusion states and are viewed as candidate targets for neutralizing antibody responses. We previously reported that an analog of heptad repeat peptides HR2-HR1-HR2(HR212) and HR2 could inhibit NDV induced cell-cell membrane fusion. Here, we show that HR212 can induce the production of highly potent antibody in immunized rabbits, which could recognize full length peptides of both HR1 and HR2, and inhibit NDV hemagglutination and NDV entry. These suggest that either HR212 or its antibody could be an inhibitor of virus-induced cell-cell membrane fusion.

Voice Recognition by Neuro-Heuristic Method

The amount of digital data is increasing every day. At every step of our daily lives, we deal with technologies in which our data are stored(e.g., mobile phones and laptops), and this is one of the main reasons for the design of various types of encryption and user identity verification algorithms. These algorithms are meant not only to fulfill the desire of protecting data but also to address the possibility of granting access of specific digital data to selected individuals. This process brings with it the problem of identity verification. This paper discusses the problem of voice verification and presents a voice verification method based on artificial intelligence *** tests are performed herein to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented solution. The research results are shown and discussed in terms of the advantages and disadvantages of the solution.

Amphiphilic Dendrimer-like Copolymers with High Chain Density by Living Anionic polymerization

We report here a method for the preparation of amphiphilic dendrimer-like copolymers with dendritic polystyrene (PS) core and protonated poly(2-vinyl pyridine)(P2VP) or poly(methacrylic acid)(PMAA) shell. The method employed the efficient coupling reaction of anionic living polymer chains and chlorosilane. The synthesis started from a functionalized 3rd generation dendritic polystyrene, G3PS-g-SiCl, used as the precursor. The dendrimer-like copolymer of styrene and 2-vinyl pyridine, G3PS-g-P2VP, was synthesized by direct coupling of living P2VPLi to the precursor. The dendrimer-like copolymer of styrene and Zer/-butyl methacrylate, G3PS-g-PtBMA, was synthesized by an indirect procedure in which a living polymer containing mainly PtBMA segment was attached to the precursor. Both methods resulted in the formation of dendrimer-like copolymers with the high molecular weights (up to 8.5 × 10^6 Da), large molecular sizes (diameter up to 73 nm), and dense shells (number of arms up to 1300). These products, G3PS-g-P2VP and G3PS-g- PtBMA, were protonated with trifluoroacetic acid and acidic hydrolyzed, respectively. After transformation, amphiphilic dendrimer-like copolymers, G3PS-g-P2VPH^+ and G3PS-g-PMAA, were obtained. Preliminary results on the solution properties of the amphiphilic products were presented.

Desorption isotherms and isosteric heat of anaerobic fermentation residues

This paper presents the equilibrium desorption isotherms and the isosteric heat of sorption of a mixture containing mechanically dewatered fermentation residue(obtained from a blend of chicken,swine and cattle manure)used in biogas plants and corn spoiled silage in a ratio of 2:*** moisture desorption isotherms of the fermentation residue were determined at 32°C,40°C and 80°C and in the relative humidity range of 0.057/1 using static gravimetric *** equations were used to analyze the desorption data of Modified Henderson,Modified Halsey,Modified Oswin,Modified Chung–Pfost and Modified GAB *** constants of the model equations were calculated by non-linear regression *** Modified Henderson model fitted to the desorption isotherm data *** the proposed function,the final moisture content of the material can be determined as long as it can be dried in infinite time with the drying gas in the given *** isosteric heat of desorption was calculated by using the Modified Henderson model in the studied temperature range based on the Clausius–Clapeyron *** isosteric heat varied between 46 k J·mol-1 and 67 k J·mol-1 at moisture levels 1.91 b Xe<4.05 kgH2O·kgdP-1 for the material.

Dynamic response and optimization of an inclined steel rock shed by the graded energy dissipating method

Blocking rockfalls directly by reinforced concrete(RC) flat sheds with thick sand cushions is an outdated method. Such conventional sheds typically accumulate rock heavily, and become progressively damaged and are difficult to repair, and are very costly. To address these problems, we propose a new structure called a Graded Dissipating Inclined Steel Rock(GDISR) shed that utilizes the graded energy dissipation method. Here, we study the dynamic response of the GDISR shed with model test and numerical simulation, and give its optimization design combining with a practical engineering case. Our results show that the optimized modular E-block and corrugated steel tube can deform to sufficiently absorb the energy of different impact intensities. This efficiently and economically provides GDISR sheds with two security lines. Compared with conventional RC sheds, GDISR sheds with optimal incline have a more efficient anti-impact function, are faster and easier to repair, and are much simpler and cheaper to build.

Spatial and temporal variability of agricultural pollutants in an agricultural headwater stream within a multipond system, southeastern China

The spatial and temporal variability of nutrients and suspended solids were investigated for two years in a 1.8 km agricultural headwater stream, located by Chaohu Lake, southeastern China. The stream form was greatly modified by human activities into channelized, pond and estuary shapes. The stream could be divided into 4 channelized reaches(1.3 km), a pond reach(0.15 km) and 3 estuary reaches(0.36 km). It was found that nutrients and TSS concentrations in the stream showed temporal variability, and higher concentrations occurred in months with high precipitation and intensive agricultural activities. And, retention of total nitrogen(TN), nitrate(NO- 3-N), ammonium(NH+ 4-N) and total suspended solids(TSS) predominantly occurred in the pond reach and estuary reaches with larger width and low current velocity. pollutants retained in these reaches accounted for more than 50% of those retained in whole stream. The retention mostly happened in the rain-runoff events and it was 7 to 27 times than that in base flow. The results showed that the channelized reach was the most important source for pollutants release under either runoff or base flow, and its release accounted for more than 90% of whole stream release. There was a high spatial variability of nutrients retention in different channelized reaches. The channelized reach directly discharging into the pond did always retain nutrients and TSS under base flow and runoff conditions, whereas the other channelized reaches performed differently in different hydrological conditions. The high spatial and temporal variability of nutrients and TSS in the stream indicated that anthropogenic disturbance of the agricultural headwater stream, such as channelization and excavation, would be expected to decrease the capacity of nutrients retention in the stream.
