Converting textile waste into value-added chemicals:An integrated bio-refinery process

The rate of textile waste generation worldwide has increased dramatically due to a rise in clothing consumption and ***,conversion of cotton-based,colored cotton-based,and blended cotton-polyethylene terephthalate(PET)textile waste materials into value-added chemicals(bioethanol,sorbitol,lactic acid,terephthalic acid(TPA),and ethylene glycol(EG))via enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation was *** order to enhance the efficiency of enzymatic saccharification,effective pretreatment methods for each type of textile waste were developed,respectively.A high glucose yield of 99.1%was obtained from white cotton-based textile waste after NaOH ***,the digestibility of the cellulose in colored cotton-based textile wastes was increased 1.38e1.75 times because of the removal of dye materials by HPAC-NaOH *** blended cottonPET samples showed good hydrolysis efficiency following PET removal via NaOHeethanol pretreatment,with a glucose yield of 92.49%.The sugar content produced via enzymatic hydrolysis was then converted into key platform chemicals(bioethanol,sorbitol,and lactic acid)via fermentation or *** maximum ethanol yield was achieved with the white T-shirt sample(537 mL/kg substrate),which was 3.2,2.1,and 2.6 times higher than those obtained with rice straw,pine wood,and oak wood,*** was selectively converted into sorbitol and LA at a yield of 70%and 83.67%,*** and EG were produced from blended cottonPET via NaOHeethanol *** integrated biorefinery process proposed here demonstrates significant potential for valorization of textile waste.

Jaundice in Adult in-Patients at a Tertiary General Hospital

Objective: The aim of the study is to investigate the “new-onset jaundice” incidence, map of causes, approaching method, and risk factors for treatment failure in adult in-patients at a tertiary general hospital as Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, viet Nam. Method: Retrospective study was done on 416 jaundice patients administered over 38 continuous days. Laboratory tests investigated were total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, AST, ALT, AST/ALT ratio, GGT, AP, bilirubin and urobilinogen in urine. Jaundice was defined as total bilirubin ≥ 2.5 mg/dL, direct bilirubin jaundice defined as direct bilirubin > 2 mg/dL and D/T percentage > 60%, the severity of AST, ALT evaluated according to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, AST/ALT ratio, and bilirubin, urobilinogen in urine. Outcome of treatment were classified in two groups: failure (dead or discharge due to worse status) and success. Descriptive statistics and analytic statistics were applied, mono-variable analysis and multinomial logistic regression to find out the independent risk factors for treatment failure. Results: The incidence of “new-onset” jaundice in adult patients was 11 ± 5 person/day. The map of jaundice included 3 phases as pre-heaptic 13.7%, in-hepatic 58.2%, and post-hepatic 22.8%. Pancreatic and biliary tract diseases accounted 17.1%, then cirrhosis 16.3%, liver tumor 14.7%, hepatitis 8.9%, sepsis 8.9%, hematology diseases 7.9%, and cardiac diseases 7.5%. A guide for approaching causes of jaundice basing on 7 parameters as total bilirubin, D/T percentage, severity of ALT, AST/ALT ratio, severity of GGT, and bilirubin and urobilinogen in urine was established. The overall mortality was 7.5% (31/416), sepsis had highest death rate of 37.8% (14/37). Sepsis and AST/ALT ratio > 2 were the two independent risk factors of mortality. Conclusion: At tertiary hospital, jaundice is common sign in adult patient, diverse enormously in many clinical wards. The map of causes of jaundice completed all

A Study on Effects of Blade Pitch on the Hydrodynamic Performances of a Propeller by Using CFD

The main objective of this work is to use the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technique to study the effects of pitch ratio on the controllable pitch propeller"s thrust characteristic. The propeller analyzed is at the following design condition: diameter of 3.65 m, speed of 200 rpm, blade number of 4, average pitch of 2.459 m, pitch ratio at 0.7 of 0.6737. The first stage involves the mesh generation and refinement on domain of the designed propeller. The second stage deals with the identification of initial and boundary conditions of the mesh-equipped module. In the final stage, various results are calculated and analyzed for pitch ratio affecting on the propeller"s thrust characteristic. The achieved results are the basis design and improving efficiency of the controllable pitch propeller.

The hole mediated ferromagnetism is well-known in Mn-doped group III-V, IV such as Ga1-xMnxAs, MnxGe1-x etc. So far, the magnetic ordered in this case of co-dopants is still unclear due to the strong limited from both experiment and theoretical prediction. The Curie temperature increase then saturation for increasing the hole concentration as rising p-type dopants concentration. However, Curie temperature slightly decreases then increase again as increase the n-type dopants concentration. In this work, the review of the effect of co-dopants on Mn-based DMSs was considered for both experiment and theoretical. The issues in case of co-doped have been presented in discussion. The finding the answers which way open the new class spintronic materials to develop applications.

Assessment of Growth and Productivity on Four Black Pepper Varieties (<i>Piper nigrum</i>L.) in Three Target Provinces of vietnam

Black pepper varieties, namely “Vinh Linh”, “Lada”, “An Do” and “Loc Ninh” were planted in three different ecological regions: Dak Lak, Gia Lai and Dong Nai in order to compare the growth ability, productivity, and quality of peppercorn. The experiments were designed in the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. The results of study have been indicated that “Vinh Linh” and “Lada” both varieties performed better crucial parameters of growth, productivity and yield, after 36 months planted. Although having greater growth parameter in the location of Dong Nai province, four varieties showed lower yield than other regions. By contrast, the four pepper types achieved the highest yield in Gia Lai, followed by Dak Lak. With respect to peppercorn quality, “Vinh Linh”, “Loc Ninh” and “Lada” achieved requirements of vietnamese Standard (TCVN 7036:2008) including bulk density: 535.69 - 612.72 g/l;piperine: 4.06 - 4.31 g/100g and volatile oil at 2.72 - 3.16 ml/100g. In contrast, “An Do” variety presented the poorest level of piperine (3.78 g/100g), and unachieved requirements.

Environmental and External Costs of Yali Hydropower Plant and Policy Recommendations in vietnam

The purpose of this study is to estimate the monetary value of the main environmental and external costs of Yali Hydropower Plant (YHPP) and to incorporate them into the financial viability indices of the plant, namely its net present value and electricity price. The results were found that if the electricity price is kept at its original level of 5.2 US cents/kWh to cover direct costs only, the net present value of the plant would be reduced to about 27% by incorporating environmental and external costs. Alternatively, the electricity price would have to be increased to 5.68 US cents/kWh in order to cover the full costs of YHPP and to maintain the original net present value. The main policy recommendations are: Government regulations should require that the financial analysis and appraisal of all future electricity sources include the full cost of these schemes, including not only direct costs but also environmental and external costs related to preventing or mitigating the environmental impact caused by them. An appropriate financial mechanism should be established to allocate the revenue from full cost electricity pricing to a fund to cover the environmental protection and compensation costs.
