Blockchain-enabled decentralized identity management:The case of self-sovereign identity in public transportation

Identity management has been ripe for disruption over the past few years due to recurring incidents of data breaches that have led to personal information leaks and identity *** rise of blockchain technology has paved the way for the development of self-sovereign identity(SSI)—a new class of user-controlled resilient identity management systems that are enabled by distributed ledger *** paper examines how SSI management can be used in a public transportation sector that spans different operators in multiple ***,the paper explores how a blockchain-based decentralized identity management system can draw on the SSI framework to provide high-level security and transparency for all involved parties in public transportation ***,building on analyses of the existing public transportation ticketing solutions,we elicited requirements of a comparable system based on the SSI ***,we developed a low-fidelity prototype to showcase how passengers can utilize standardized travel credentials that are valid across different transportation networks in *** proposed system eliminates the need for multiple travel cards(i.e.,one for each transportation provider)and empowers individuals to have better control over the use of their identities while they utilize interoperable ticketing systems across ***,building on the public transportation case,we offer a proof-of-concept that shows how individuals can better manage their identity credentials via the SSI framework.

The generation of multiphase porous electrode microstructures is a critical step in the optimisation of electrochemical energy storage *** work implements a deep convolutional generative adversarial network(DC-GAN)for generating realistic nphase microstructural *** same network architecture is successfully applied to two very different three-phase microstructures:A lithium-ion battery cathode and a solid oxide fuel cell anode.A comparison between the real and synthetic data is performed in terms of the morphological properties(volume fraction,specific surface area,triple-phase boundary)and transport properties(relative diffusivity),as well as the two-point correlation *** results show excellent agreement between datasets and they are also visually *** modifying the input to the generator,we show that it is possible to generate microstructure with periodic boundaries in all three *** has the potential to significantly reduce the simulated volume required to be considered“representative”and therefore massively reduce the computational cost of the electrochemical simulations necessary to predict the performance of a particular microstructure during optimisation.

Dilute solution viscosity of fluorocarbon-containing hydrophobically modified poly (acrylic add) was measured in aqueous solutions of various NaCl concentrations. The intrinsic viscosity ([η]) and Huggins coefficient (kH) were evaluated using Huggins equations. It is found that, at low Nacl concentration, the modified polymers exhibit values of intrinsic viscosity ([η]) and Huggins coefficient (kH) similar to those of unmodified polymers. For both of the modified and unmodified polymers, the intrinsic viscosity decreases with increase of NaCl concentration, while the Huggins coefficient increases upon addition of NaCl. But the variation of [η] and kH is more significant for the modified polymers, which reflects the enhanced intra- and intermolecular hydrophobic association at higher Nacl concentration.

The debate of prostate cancer （PCa） screening has been shaped over decades. There is a plethora of articles in the literature supporting as well as declining prostate-specific antigen （PSA） screening. Does screening decrease PCa mortality？ With the long-term results of the European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate （ERSPC） the answer is clearly YES. It moves! However, in medicine there are no benefits without any harm and thus, screening has to be performed in targeted and smart way-or in other words^in a risk-adapted fashion when compared with the way it was done in the past. Here, we discuss the main findings of the ERSPC trials and provide insights on how the future screening strategies should be implemented.

The Arabidopsis DSO/ABCG 11 Transporter Affects Cutin Metabolism in Reproductive Organs and Suberin in Roots

Apart from its significance in the protection against stress conditions, the cuticular cover is essential for proper development of the diverse surface structures formed on aerial plant organs. This layer mainly consists of a cutin matrix, embedded and overlaid with cuticular waxes, Following their biosynthesis in epidermal cells, cutin and waxes were suggested to be exported across the plasma membrane by ABCG-type transporters such as DSO/ABCG11 to the cell wall and further to extracellular matrix. Here, additional aspects of DSO/ABCG11 function were investigated, predomi- nantly in reproductive organs, which were not revealed in the previous reports. This was facilitated by the generation of a transgenic DSO/ABCG11 silenced line （dso-4） that displayed relatively subtle morphological and chemical phenotypes. These included altered petal and silique morphology, fusion of seeds, and changes in levels of cutin monomers in flowers and siliques. The dso-4 phenotypes corresponded to the strong DSO/ABCG11 gene expression in the embryo epidermis as well as in the endosperm tissues of the developing seeds. Moreover, the DSO/ABCG11 protein displayed polar localization in the embryo protoderm. Transcriptome analysis of the dso-4 mutant leaves and stems showed that reduced DSO/ABCG11 activity suppressed the expression of a large number of cuticle-associated genes, implying that export of cuticular lipids from the plasma membrane is a rate-limiting step in cuticle metabolism. Surprisingly, root suberin composition of dso-4 was altered, as well as root expression of two suberin biosynthetic genes. Taken together, this study provides new insights into cutin and suberin metabolism and their role in reproductive organs and roots development.

A self-made, low-cost infrared system for evaluating the sciatic functional index in mice

The sciatic functional index（SFI） is a popular parameter for peripheral nerve evaluation that relies on footprints obtained with ink and paper. Drawbacks include smearing artefacts and a lack of dynamic information during measurement. Modern applications use digitized systems that can deliver results with less analytical effort and fewer mice. However, the systems are expensive（€40,000）. This study aimed to evaluate the applicability and precision of a self-made, low-cost infrared system for evaluating SFI in mice. Mice were subjected to unilateral sciatic nerve crush injury（crush group; n = 7） and sham operation（sham group; n = 4）. They were evaluated on the day before surgery, the 2nd, 4th and 6th days after injury, and then every day up to the 23rd day after injury. We compared two SFI evaluation methods, i.e., conventional inkand-paper SFI（C-SFI） and our infrared system（I-SFI）. Our apparatus visualized footprints with totally internally reflected infrared light（950 nm） and a camera that can only detect this wavelength. Additionally we performed an analysis with the ladder beam walking test（LBWT） as a reference test. I-SFI assessment reduced the standard deviation by about 33 percent, from 11.6 to 7.8, and cut the variance around the baseline to 21 percent. The system thus requires fewer measurement repetitions and fewer animals, and cuts the cost of keeping the animals. The apparatus cost €321 to build. Our results show that the process of obtaining the SFI can be made more precise via digitization with a self-made, low-cost infrared system.
